How is ross doing that awesome sound from 2:06 to 2:27? it sounds like harmonics, but not quite. plus, his fingers make it look like his just playing the riff normally, and it may be a pedal making the sound?
COOL VIDEO :) Collective Soul LIVE , playing their classic song SIMPLE and we get to see ED ROLANDS playing a nice Fender Telecaster guitar :) rock on
I just noticed Ed Roland is playing a white Fender Telecaster and saw a cream Fender amp head on one of the Marshall 4x12 cabs. Never saw him play a Telecaster before, only various PRS and the Gretsch White Falcon he is playing now. They used to exclusively use Marshall JCM900's (heavier sound IMO), now Joel uses 1 Splawn and 1 Marshall JCM900 amp, Ed uses Orange Thunderverb 100 amp, and Dean uses Budda Superdrive II amps.
Good observation, but Ross also wrote "The World I Know," and the continue to play that.
I think it's just because this song wasn't a single (to my knowledge) and they seem to only play singles and songs from the last two albums at their shows.
@AeroPR Joel Kosche, who is the current guitarist is pretty solid though, I've got to say. "I don't need anymore friends" is a pretty killer CS track (he wrote it.)
@Thatoneguyfromwalmar I heard that Ross wanted CS to play more of his songs, but Ed was too controlling over the material. Ed did go to Berklee College of Music in Boston for a year, big f#&king deal. Some of the best Hard Rock writers I know, never studied formal music at all.
@GRUNGE911 Hell no, Collective Soul is "ALL Original" from Stockbridge, Georgia. They have had Seven (7) #1 Songs on USA Billboard Charts, and the only Rock Group to ever have Three (3) #1 hits off one CD.
Shine #1 in 1993
December #1 in 1995, Where the River Flows #1 in 1995, and The World I Know #1 in 1995, and GEL #2 in 1995
Precious Declaration #1 in 1997 and Listen #1 in 1997.
Heavy #1 in 1999.
Best Rock Band to ever come from Georgia, or maybe tied with ABB.

the funky strumming on top on second verse is out of tune. What's up with that. It's a great song.

Simple is off of the Collective Soul CD 1995 and believe it or not is the fifth rated song off the CD. See #1 hits listed below.

Collective Soul doesn't play this song hardly at all since the 90's. WHY???
It is GREAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!
LesPaulCustom79 1 year ago
@LesPaulCustom79 Idk for sure but i think its because Ross left/was kicked out (idk the hole story) the band and he wrote the song

@BRProvince It is because the new dude can't play it with the same attitude Ross played it.
