If you've ever had to go to a builder's merchants' store in the UK, you will know that a lot of items, [especially for plumbing] have ridiculous arcane names, similar to, but not as extreme as here. That's why this sketch is a gem, as it shows the fine line between arcane nomenclature and obscenity. That's the English Language for you - and Fry & Laurie relish every bit of it. BTW. 'Frotting Pencils' could be used for Brass Rubbing. True. :D
Hugh Laurie has been dumbed down for American TV audiences as a physician who's addicted to Vicodin. In Season 3 he performs a liver transplant on himself in agony with minutes left before his liver completely succumbs to necrosis from nearly 3 seasons of swallowing all that acetaminophen.
What the hell kind of English did they teach us in school? I have more than ten years of studying English behind me, a Cambridge Proficiency Certificate and still, only two words in ten were actually in my vocabulary.
Brilliant stuff, because even though I hardly got *what* they were saying, I cracked up laughing. Gotta love 'em.
That's actually the purpose of the sketch: it's jibberish. See Stephen Fry: Guilty, it's on youtube somewhere on that kind of stuff, this is an example of it. :)
oh this is bloody brilliant :D

I think that is probably a good thing. Watch this video again in about 10 years time and you might get them all.
(And it will still be funny, then, too!)
