  • To see and hear Bonnie beside Merle doing what they did best is like the greatest and most underated chapter in country music. Two wonderful people and talented beyond belief!

  • Gypsies and Native Americans United!

  • five big fat communist jerkhead justin beiber fans...ha

  • To sing with such a cool sounding voice ..it looks effortless for him..Still amazes me..

  • Well, some people's children!

Apparently my neighbours do not appreciate hearing Merle Haggard at formidable volume before 9am on a Sunday morning. I tell you, some folks have no appreciation for culture :)

  • I'm a pinko commie liberal and I'd rather baby seals be clubbed than go without Hag.

  • I grew up near Bakersfield back in the 60's. Saw Merle Haggard and the Strangers 3 times. They were amazing. I was a youngster and later went through the rock and roll, hippie days, but I always listen to the HAG. Saw Buck Owens and the Buckaroos there about 5 or 6 times to. Still great stuff man.

Thanks for posting this one. The HAG is a great guitar player too.

  • @magprob Saw him live with Bonnie singing back up. Great show. The man can really sing and play. Great country gentleman.

  • Wow... He can actually play lead guitar parts. I wanna see one of those shitheads that dominate "country" radio these days play lead guitar, or play anything for that matter.

  • You damn SKIPPY if you don't know Hagg is is the MAN "you damn sur " don't know shit!!

Sexy as hell...wouldn't matter what he looked like ...opens that mouth and I melt!!

  • I hitchhiked, drove, bused, & flew this great country for 35 years! This made me cry!

  • Oh yeah, I'm getting itchy feet myself....:)

  • I smoked pot and took trips on LSD and let my hair grow long and shaggy and right now what I'd like to do is sit down and have a beer with the Hag. What a great song!

  • @JusticeOnTheRocks best comment I have read in a long time. amen brother.

  • great clip!! love 80's era Haggard...thx for sharing!

  • Number one Road Hand. Listening to this song makes the ol weldin rig get ancy.

  • If anyone told you I gave a damn they damned sure got it wrong. Living that ain't easy but it's me.

  • Sounds like a great concert. The late great Roy Nichols was playing some licks in the background, too. I've loved Merle Haggard and the Strangers for many years.

  • This song is right up there with "White Line Fever".

"Mama Tried" might be his best, and that's saying something.

  • The guitar players love the Hag too. So many great tunes to just play those great extended solos.

  • love this

  • I was in the audiende that day early spring 1978 in Rotterdam. Merle and his Strangers were fantastic! Thanks very much for posting these GREAT recordings!

  • Lucky you!!!

  • i dont think i could pick my favorite merle haggard song

  • can anyone tell me the name of a song by Merle, I call it the Waitress song but I cannot find it anywhere, some of the lyrics are....this song is for you, you know who you are, won't embarrass you by calling your name, you're here every night, serving up the drinks, wearing that superficial smile

  • This song is for you - Friend in California album 1986

  • Oh--he was SO good!

  • I saw him last night. He isn't dead. Still sounds just as good.

  • This is my truckin' Theme Song.......

  • How sad that folk-poets like Merle, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, and Loretta Lynn are largely ignored by the media nowadays.

  • Best Haggard Song Ever Bar none! I can listen to this all day!

  • ...toss up...Misery and Jin...

fuck it, all Hag is the BEST.

  • I stumbled upon this video and I cant get enough of it! This is what youtube is all about! Thanks for posting this!

  • Wow, I haven't heard this song in probably 20+ years! Thank you so much!

  • I was into Heavy Metal in the 70's and 80's. My parents always listend to Country. How did I miss Merle Haggard, his music has changed my life. God Bless him and his family.

  • merles voice is as smooth as a cats ass hope he can come to tucson,we need some good entertainment here...pladahitz

  • Awesome vid. Looks like he has that cocaine jaw going on but he sounds flawless

  • Merle Haggard, a great singer and guitarplayer. He really didn't need that other guitarist to do the solo.

Merle Haggard, you're my favorite country artist. Thanks coockiestv for posting.

    Ronald

  • music gold, my favorite song ever!

  • I got Ramblin Fever in my blood, I love this song along with most everything this legend spits out!

  • i pledge alliegence to the hagg...love this

  • Just listen to Merle on the old country music channels on YT. This is a good 'un.*****. Thanks for posting.

  • super video of the greatest country artist ever ....

  • great clip! where did you find this at??

  • "OH HELL YEAH!! SING IT MERLE!!"

  • very cool, never seen this one before.

  • everyone (even Roy Nichols) was using phase shifters in those days weren't they?

  • this song feels good, defines me to the core, merle is the real deal!!

  • I'm an old coot now and I came to Bakersfield when I was 15. I can remember sneaking into the Blackboard underage to see Merle sing. This man still shares Bakersfield greatness with Buck Owens and many others who brought our sound to the national country music scene.

  • Old coots now, but we saw & heard it first-hand when Okie music MADE Country & Merle was king. The Hag is the height Countrys poet laureate, vox populi of the common man, a living treasure of unmatched talent as lyricist, composer, vocalist, musician, mimic, raconteur, comic, & raconteur. He is one of the few people Ive known who I can honestly say is an authentic genius. The greatest alliterative opening line ever in a song: A canvas-covered cabin in a crowded labor camp. Genius.

  • Man I was pretty young hearing my mom play Waylon and Merle and Hank LP's till they wore out. Those were the glory days of country music. I would love to turn on Country Station and hear someone make a guitar "Ramble" like those guys...I good times are really over for good!

  • I saw him in the Twin Cities in 1976. I was only 8 yrs old, but I knew I had witnessed greatness! He has been THE MAN ever since!

  • I seen Merle once in Omaha, it was really really great. I wasn't a country music fan then, and I'm not one now actually. But I know I saw the real thing and appreciated it then and through all these years.

  • One of my favorites!

  • great song, thank you

  • My favorite singer. Country music will be DEAD when he's no longer with us.

    @ jenglenh

You're so lucky, my friend. I live in SE Europe and if Merle came in Croatia, where I live, that would be like Jesus walked this Earth for the 2nd time. I'm lucky enough that Ricky Skaggs is coming to Gstaad (Switzerland) this year, so I've already bought the ticket and I'll be there to hear him and Kentucky thunder playing bluegrass like no one can.

    Keep it country.

  • Amen. Country music will be dead. The same goes for Willie nelson.

  • great song

  • awsome song

  • I have seen Merle in concert 4 times in the past 2 years; he is STILL great. Last time I was 8 feet from the stage, he is so good.

  • My guitar teacher's band did a pretty good cover of this song, look up King Roller on myspace if you wanan hear it

  • Todays musicians are out of touch with the common man. Listen to this man sing, his lyrics come from life experiences.(He relates to the middle class working men and women of this country.) What life experiences does someone like Taylor Swift have??? Ole George Jones got it right when he asked "WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES"....Doubt it's gonna be Keith Urban!!!

  • ONE OF THE BEST THINGS EVER SAID ON YOU-TUBE WITH ALL THESE OTHER YOUNG PUNKS COULD SEE THIS! I hate this so called country pop crsp they play today ITS JUNK!....kinda like nascar..the old guys that made it...cale..elliott...earnhardt...pearson etc etc man they worked and earned there stuff kyle busch is a spoiled bitch who sat right down in a rocket ship in a 20 million dollar a year deal....BS!

  • merle is and will always be the man forever!!!!

  • Merle is the epitome of country music. NO ONE in today's country scene can even come close.

  • I've got ramblin' fever too ;-) Good ol Hag still get around just as good as Willie!

  • That's a real sweet Country Song.The Country

Music of today dose not have heart&soul into

    the songs.

  • The great Roy Nichols!

  • Vintage Hag. Keep kickin ass, Merle.

  • One of my favorite songs from Merle!!
