I don't think it's fair to say "I didn't laugh ONCE. This SUCKS!" based on this one little promo--We're only seeing the punchlines, without any of the set-ups. Who knows: Perhaps IN CONTEXT it's effing HYSTERICAL. I'LL never know, because I don't have a credit card. Looks like it's just "The Film Crew" for me, unless I manage to schmooze my way into the Comic-Con again this year and buy some Rifftrax @ the booth...
As much as I really enjoyed Joel on MST3K, I barely chuckled at this. I haven't experienced RiffTrax, but this is pretty bad. I had my hopes up on this and I have been severely let down. =(
This wasn't all that funny. Wonder why? Maybe because the main "talent" wasn't in it! By that I mean Kevin, and Mike. I'm not saying the other guys aren't good, just that they should all work together.
It seems like there's really two MST3K's, those that left, (Josh, Joel, Trace, Frank) and those that stayed. Like they have their own gangs.
There's another new group I just discovered doing the whole MST3K puppet and show storyline bit and doing it well called Incognito Cinema Warriors XP. I'm a hardcore mistie and I think they're pretty fucking good! I bought their DVD last night and this one. Look 'em up on YouTube and MySpace.
Well, I think this is cause for celebration. Between three or four different projects, the spirit of MST is being kept alive. Whether you prefer Trace or Bill, Mike or Joel, and Josh or Kevin, they are ALL out there still, in 2008, riffing bad movies. I love that.
i donno this is kind a like the "B" team. no mike crow or servo, what do you get? well as the name tinanic implys a sinking ship. but still the goodfellas joke was pretty funny.
Actually, you're getting the original "A" Team. You have Joel, Trace (the ORIGINAL Crow) and Josh (the ORIGINAL Servo). So you can't use that as a basis for judgment.
See it yourself, then decide. I'm giving it a shot.
yea you got a point there. but mike has always been the head writer. and i really prefer the new crow and i REALLY prefer the new servo. But yea ull give it a chance.
I agree that Mike's a fantastic writer, and Bill was a great Crow and Kevin truly defined Servo. But Trace and Frank were such a fantastic duo (and Frank gave quite a lot to writing - he was usually the guy that had to screen the movies, 2-3 times through, before it even GOT to the next stage).
there is no way you can say that CT is the B team, you have the original creators of the show . and most of them were writers for several years. although Josh probably can be considered the Bench warmer of the CT team I will give you that :)
the thing is i felt the show ran smoother with mike as a host, i mean joel had lots of charm and he made the movies funny in a way mike could not. but also visa-versa mike's quick sarcastic tone i think lends itself more to the bots style of riffing, not to mention mike's immpressions seem more dead on. Joel did have good chemisty, not to mention being the fonder of the show, which means more than anything.
True Misties have been waiting for many years for a real movie riffing system. Rifftrax is great, but I truly miss the silhouettes, and real production values. How can you say 15$ is too much, thats crazy, thats about 4 gallons of gas. Rhino home video was charging around 25$ at one point for one episode of MST3k This is the only reunion we will get to see, so for all you haters just don't watch it or buy it. I for one will support in any way
I'm for supporting it too, but really - $15 with no case is steep. Film Crew discs are the same price and come complete (and even have some freebies thrown in as well).
I'd rather download and burn myself for $10 or less. That's how RiffTrax On Demand works and I'm very happy with that.
I'm sorry, but these silhouettes take up way too much of the screen and it's rather distracting. Good writing makes all the difference and I know this is just a sample, but I didn't laugh once.
As much as I love the old MST3K days, this TITANIC project simply costs too much. A burned DVD in a sleeve for $15? Come on. I would consider paying $10-$12 for a pressed DVD in a substantial case with extras. I buy every PIXAR movie for about that much. I won't be buying this project at this price.
I predict piracy will damage sales to the point at which Joel and company will throw in the towel early.

For "an idea that's run it's course", it seems to still be going strong.
Sorry you don't like it. A vast majority of us MSTies do.

I don't care for rifftrax, and I'm not paying a lot of money for DVDs of an idea that has run it's course.

It's just not the same as MST3K. To me, Rifftrax is more along the lines of capturing the genius of the original.

I have to agree. I loved Joel on MST3K as well. But this stuff from CT doesn't make me laugh. I don't know why.
I can say that I own several RiffTrax and all of the shorts that Mike, Kevin and Bill did. They are hilarious. I'm totally addicted to RiffTrax. :-)

meh, not nearly as good as rifftrax.

Kevin Murphy was Tom Servo from season 2 to the end of the show season 10

yea thats what i thought. Bogus geekriff, bogus.
yea kevin murphy is the shit. you see him on the news program with mike riffing unrehearsed. he killed it.

They're rifting old B-movies that have outdated or otherwise affordable licences. No danger of lawsuits.
