A young or just-coming- up singer would be crucified for using music. The above named singers used music because they were famous enough to get away with it. And not memorizing the music for a recital for which you are being paid handsomely is...yes...being lazy. End of story.
A few years earlier, she sang this song while stalking around the stage in her high heels, flirting up a storm, and giving the audience a thousand percent. Give her a break!
d you actually *see* her reading? plus, it's not just the text there but the music as well. aaaand, above all: when you'll be a quarter as brilliant as Caballe, you should comment upon her ways. plus, can you imagine how many arias she knows?
Well let's not include Netrebko in that line of greats. I suppose I thought that because she's the only one I've seen do that out of the singers I've seen in recital, so I stand corrected!
Au contraire, the list of great singers who have used a partiture in concert include Caruso, Ponselle, McCormack, Gigli, Elisabeth Schumann, Ferrier, Schwarzkopf, Bjorling, Tucker, Sills, Sutherland (a lot!), Pavarotti, Domingo, Horne, Netrebko, etc. An artist who has sung in over 80 operas, with a mind boggling repertoire of many types of music is hardly lazy. Additionally, Caballé uses a score because she can read music.
Better this Aleksandra Lizdek i Dejan Krivokapić " El Vito " ! ^_^

Why she needs to use sheet music in recital is beyond me - no other singer to my knowledge does that. Lazy?
Andante735 3 years ago
I have seen other professional singers use music in recital. After all, it is about the music.
