Did he make only essential turns? (ie: Base and Final to the Hudson)

Did he fully understand the ships Min Sink, L/D, Sink Rate?

Was this a MIRACLE on the Hudson, or just landing on it, by a very skilled GLIDER pilot?

The more you understand engineless flight, the more you understand that the pilot did what his training and confidence led him to do. Was he calm? Yes. Why? because he had done this thousands of times before. Which is why glider pilots are regarded as some of the best pilots in the world. AFTER ALL, EVERY TIME YOU GO UP, YOU KNOW YOU GET ONE CHANCE TO LAND!!!

Once thrust was lost (regardless of what these fools posting comments that his glider rating had nothing to do with it think) it was just a VERY LARGE GLIDER, dropping out of the sky at about 1000 per minute, my Son could do the math at 3000' feet the pilot had approx 3 mins to touchdown.

But the initial 5 - 10 secs was where this flight was saved with a glider pilots awareness, with that angle of attack and immediate loss of thrust - I submit that a generic commercial airline pilot at the helm may have been met with a vastly different for himself and that of his passengers.

The final version honoring the flight crew and all first responders, public safety and private citizens alike along with the heroic efforts of Capt. Was selected 1 of a dozen for cadet glider program,has run his own safety consulting business,Safety Reliability Methods Inc,served as an instructor, Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) safety chairman, accident investigator, and national technical committee member.His safety work for the ALPA led to the development of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular.

He declined 2 open runways for landing, he risked lives to try to land in Hudson.

Captain Sulley, a true American Hero. And a humble hero. I am trying to think of one person in history who saved the lives of over 150 people in a matter of 10 minutes with a split second decision. I am drawing a blank.

The video is not my own, but Cambell Brown summarized the story best and Robin Roberts eye witness report is unmatched. I began working on the presentation Thursday night the 15th as the events were still unfolding, I posted it first thing Friday morning on the 16th and e-mailed off copies to Captain Sully and to the media-it doesn't surprise me that they also used that song, Mariah Carey's words are perfect and I hope that every time we hear it that we will indeed think of Captain Sully and all the heroes of Flight 1549.

A very skilled crew was at the wheel of that plane. Certainly God had his hand in keeping them all safe. Thank God for the entire crew of that plane, and all the people that were there and able to help those passengers. A very well handled situation by all!

I am disappointed that the First Officer isn't being glorified as well, regarding the U.S. Airways crash yesterday. In modern aviation, that person serves an integral role in the safe operation of their flight. Though the Captain is the commander of the aircraft, he doesn't fly every leg. I have had emergencies in the past where, as a first officer and the pilot flying, I landed successfully without incident.

I also work in emergency services as a 911 police, fire, medical dispatcher and know well the value of training and experience and how we all work together as a team. Just like it has been said about piloting an aircraft, it is indeed hours of boredom punctuated by seconds of terror. It take a cool head and discipline when lives are on the line. The Captain and the flight crew deserve the respect and admiration of the entire world for a job well done!!
