  • Dang, your dock is huge :O The dock on my mac mini is nice and small. I am a heavy user of spotlight :)

  • Did you say you have a mac pro?maan how much money do you have?

  • im not a mac user but i wanna be lol , looks awesome and better :)

  • @WindowsGamingPwns Then don't watch the video.

  • put a list in the sidebar.... plz

  • @dnddays

    cs4 is way better.

also iwork is 1000x better than ms office. office is outdated by a long time.

but 3ds max is the best.

  • You have a lot of great little apps for sure, but it seems like half of them are just repeats of other apps you already have.... do you really need 5 or so browsers? 2-3 data mapping applications? 5 compressors? etc, etc? seems to me you could free up quite a bit of space by cleaning up your applications folder.

  • i luv this video

  • @madisoncamille271 cuz you have a mac

  • google shit? xD

  • huhuhey anyone want to play with me

  • u shud put a written list in the sidebar...

  • Eric, this was a very helpful video; thanks!

  • lmmmmffaoo, google shit.., i mean google chrome, hha omg i laughed so damn hard

  • Yeah, I've never heard anything funnier in my life -.-

  • wow! and you complain how windows desktops are cluttered? wow!

and, honestly, how many of those movies are pirate copies?

  • actually he goes on allot of rants against software piracy.

  • It does now, but how many were pirated. We can easily find videos of him showing how he used transmission or tomato or whatever to download movies from 2007.

  • None of them are pirated you idiot.

  • If a Mac just works, why do you need so many apps?

  • Really nice video

  • Great video!

  • XBMC blows Frontrow out of the water.

  • there is a bad side to the new imac - you cant find big enough wallpapers :)

  • wow, apple really did copy windows with their front row thing.

  • Actually, it's the inverse thing.

  • No its not. Do you normally make facts up on the fly emperor darius?

This edition, which was code-named "Freestyle" during its development, was first released in September 2002

Front Row software is both the interface for Apple TV and a standalone application on all shipping Macs. It is similar to Windows Media Center and iTheater. The first version was released October 2005, with two major revisions since.

Media center was in development and came out first. Sorry but you are totally wrong

  • The final version was released on September 2005. Front Row a Month Later.

And Apple didn't send any information about a beta version, so you can't know which came up earlier.

But thinking about who the contenders are, the winner is clear. Apple.

  • Winners are clear? WTF are you even talking about? Front row sucks in comparison to media center first off. Second did you read what I said? September 2002 media center had its first release. That is 3 years before apple. You said its in the inverse thing first. Now you are saying apple had it in development for years even though microsoft had a work version that was released in 2002? Seriously quit trying to defend it. If anything apple copied microsoft. Live with it.

  • Oh yes, Apple is the clear winner. I love Front Row's ability to act as a DVR, and record live TV and stream it to any supported set top box in my house, including a variety of HD devices and the Xbox 360. It really is fascinating.

Oh wait, Front Row can't do that. It's just a pretty interface for displaying your local and network content. It's Windows Media Center that's awesome for HTPCs, DVR and the like. Duh.

  • I was speaking about the original release. Not which is the best.

  • Microsoft released first not apple. So sorry wrong again darius. Media center had a version released in 2002. Before front row was even in beta or was a thought in the apple camp.

  • dude!!! it's you!!! hey man unlock man dude i was just expressing my opinion! lol nothing personal

    be a sport man!

  • I express myself wrongly. I meant who had the original idea. Since they both released it in the same year, with a small difference of time, we can't know who started the development first. Apple could have been developing it since 2000 and no one would've known about it.

  • Did you not read what I said emperor darius? Are you stupid? I have repeated myself several times now. Media center came out in 2002 and front row in 2005. 3 years after media center had a released and working copy. They were not released in the same year. Media center 2005 and front row were released in 2005. Even then microsoft pre dated front row. It is clear front row is a copy.

  • Media Center was started as a project in 2002, it was released in 2005 as final version.

Meanwhile Apple could have been working on Front Row since who knows how many years, so you cannot say that they copied MS.

  • @emperordarius

XP media center 2002. It was a working release given to some OEMs. Do you understand? Can I get through to that head of yours? 2005 was not the final version. Google XP media center 2002 and see what you are not getting. Let me state this for you again. Media center was released in 2002.

  • Media Center was released to try and help with the amalgamation of media technologies in the home. It never really took off as PCs were still not quite as discreet as they could have been. The only real players for Media Center was Sony (with Vaio) and HP. It was just glorified XP. A bit like Windows Navigator was a glorified Win 3.11 front end in the 90s. It had a market, but the market was small.

  • @emperordarius

    In a Nutshell:

Windows XP Media Center 2002 is a superset edition of Windows XP Professional containing additional capabilities for Home Entertainment which are not present or not possible to achieve easily out of the box on other editions of Windows.

So NO IT WAS NOT A PROJECT. Emperor darius quit trying to change history. Apple copied microsoft media center.

  • You're wrong again. The 2002 version was available only to SOME manufactures and was NOT the final version. The final version was the 2005, which added several features.

So there again is no real evidence that Apple copied MS.

  • @emperordarius

See this is where you are wrong. I never stated it was their final version. Media center 2005 was also released to OEMs only. You could not buy a copy of it. Also there was a working release, it was not a beta, which would imply it was a final product. "Final version" is deceptive to say. There is no "Final version" of anything unless the company no longer produces the software.

  • @emperordarius

So by your logic the iphone does not exist? Because its only available to some carriers. Sorry but your logic fails because you have none. XP media center 2002 did exist, well before front row was even being developed. Now please sit down and be quiet unless you actually have some facts to back up your argument fanboy.

  • I don't think you understand how stupid your argument is.

It was released only to some OEMs as an experimental release. If it had enough success, they would release it to the others. Therefore it was not a final product, especially since it lacked several features.

  • @emperordarius

I dont think you realize how stupid your argument is. Was it released? Yes. Was it released 3 full years before front row? Yes. End of discussion. Front row copied media center. Logic wins, you fail. Shut up now.

  • MCE was released September 2005 and Front Row was released in October 2005. Also media center was a feature available with select oems far before front row was even a thought. As per the previous post it was first released in 2002. 3 years before front row.

  • @zoulkyud

MCE 2005 was released in September 2005. So there are multiple versions predating front row.

  • Hell a modded Xbox has a media center at least a year or few before OSX did.

  • Thanks for the info of Carbon Copy Cloner......Im downloading it.....

  • Bad audio quality...really, I like the audio before he got his podcast mic thingy.

  • Haha, Google shit

  • Do you have Mactracker?

  • Looks like he likes collectioning software.

And his Mac is still running quite fast.

I'd like to see a PC do that, with its good old registry. Hahahahaha!

  • PC users dont need around 200 apps that can be done in 50 or less.

  • neither do mac users.......

  • Aparently Applesoldier does. At least 4 dvd ripping tools, 3 torrent clients, multiple programs to see what files are taking the most disk space.

  • He doesn't need all of them at all, he just tries out all of them.

  • emprerordarius, so your insisting that a pc can't run a linux distro..? idiot.

  • Yeah, a Linux distro with the registry?

Do I really need to specify every time "A Windows PC"? Are you really that thick?

  • Yes, you do need to specify a Windows PC, seeing as PC doesn't refer to Windows.

  • Yes, a PC DOES refer to Windows nowadays. Now stop acting like a fucking expert. You want to call them Windows PCs and waste characters, fine, but when you're talking with a Mac user, it's just PC.

  • Looks like he needs a bunch of shitty apps to perform maintenance on his computer, which apparently doesn't fuck up anyway since it runs OS X! Guess not!

  • The only app I use under OS X is Onyx. I use it monthly, just to free up some space.

    Under Windows? Ahhhhh...

  • Linux doesn't have a registry and it's a PC ...in fact a Mac is a PC ... let your Mac ads make you look like a fool to people you meet in person.

  • Ohhh, you're so thick...

A PC, when talking with Mac users = PC running Windows.

Mac = Apple PC running OS X.

Linux Machine/PC = PC running Linux.

    Got it?

I hate when you assholes act as if you were experts. Who gives a fuck about the original meaning. Who gives a fuck if 1 MB was 1024 KB it now is 1000 KB. Who gives a fuck if gay meant colorful. Who gives a fuck if Fag didn't mean gay.

    Get the point?

  • @emperordarius

No, a PC is a personal computer.

A Mac is a computer sold by Apple.

Adding Linux or Windows before "PC" can help to clarify what OS it's running.

    Got it? Get it? Good.

  • You're just being stubborn, you get the point emperordarius is trying to get through.

The apple commercial basically goes like this:

"Hello, I am a PC. And I am a Mac."

Everyone understand what is implied here, to say that a Mac is also a computer is correct but this simply not how people refer to it.

If somebody says "I just bought myself a new PC" would you actually consider the individual talking about a Mac? or would you assume it's running windows?

  • @reviewaion

I'm not being stubborn, he is. He refuses to admit that we're correct, even though we are. It's a definition and a fact that PC means Personal Computer, and has nothing to do with Windows.

If someone told me they bought a new PC, I would ask them what kind they got. I wouldn't assume anything about it until I knew exactly what they were talking about.

  • Definitions can change their meaning. You're so fucking Mac hater that you can't accept this change of meaning.

And I'm sorry, but most of us people prefer knowing immediately what kind of computer someone's got.

The same way I'd prefer to hear someone say "I've just bought a Ford" instead of 'a car'.

  • Definitions can change their meaning? Oh really, where on dictionary (dot) reference (dot) com do you go to submit a new meaning? Because if you cant, the term PC stands for a microcomputer designed for individual use, for such applications as word processing, data management, or computer games.

  • You wouldn't

Simply because if that individual had bought a Mac he would of said "I bought myself a new Mac" and not "I bought myself a new PC"

It's a fact that you cannot buy a "PC" without getting a Windows Operating System on it, in stores. If you were not to buy a "PC" this would imply you bought a Mac which always comes with Mac OS.

There is absolutely no reason for you to be so technical, we are all geeks here no need to be the superior PC intellectual.

  • Some retailers actually sale PCs with linux on it.

  • @reviewaion

I don't know many people who would state "I bought a new PC", seeing the ambiguousness of the statement itself. Most people would state "I bought a new Dell", or "I bought a new HP"

No, it is not a fact that you cannot buy a "PC" without Windows. Macs are indeed "PCs" and do not include Windows. There are also plenty of netbooks running Linux.

There is no need for you to be a sheep and incorrectly refer to things because Apple tries to influence you to.

  • @manjyoumethunder true that. PC means personal computer, so any computer that enters our lives that isn't part of our work-life is technically a "PC"

  • You really only know people using the name of the manufacturer when they are reffering to a PC? seeing as I work in the IT, i'll give you another example. How would you call a computer by it's manufacturer if say it was build by the owner him/herself. knowing that this person cannot say my ("insert manufacturer here") he would just go with PC. In this particular specific context you're not telling me that you're considering the person to be talking about a mac.

  • Also there is no "legal" store you can walk into selling linux netbooks, knowing linux is fully adjustable it could be modified for netbooks and sold with the netbooks making it inaccessable for others to use without buying the actuall netbook, this is against linux policies and would get the store selling these netbooks suid.

If you go to the store anywhere near you and you buy a PC any... PC at all it will have Windows on it.

  • @reviewaion

What the fuck are you talking about? You can damn well sell Linux on an OEM PC, and I hope you'll find that there are a wide variety of netbooks with Linux pre-installed.

I suggest you go read through the open licenses under which various Linux distributions are released before you go saying things without fully understanding them.

No, not "any" PC will be running Windows, because there are a fair amount of "PCs" running OS X and Linux.

  • But since 90% of the world's PCs are Windows based, and since 95% of time Mac users are insulting Windows, and since I talked about the registry, it should be clear enough even to a half-retard that I was talking about Windows PCs.

  • and You don't get it emperordarius ... this is what Apple wants you to think ... look up PC in wiki for the correct answer ... stop drinking the kool-aid. Apple has brain washed so many people. They were just pussies for not calling out MS and instead they used PC.

  • No that's what I think is correct. Apple doesn't brainwash anybody. Actually, you people who can't see the reality, can't see that you're using an inferior OS and yet not admitting it are the ones who've got brainwashed.

  • what does a PC (hardware) have to do with an OS? You noob ..wiki PC ... a Mac is a PC

Apple wants you to believe a PC is a Windows based Computer. But it's just marketing, like "Milk does a body good" ... in reality milk makes millions of people a day fell sick if they drink it.

  • YOU don't get it. If WE Mac users want to consider the term "PC" = "Windows PC" we are free to do it, ok? And since you PC users perfectly know that, stop acting like experts and let's end this meaningless argument.

  • fanboy's fault or a cult's?

This was a, very disturbing response.

  • whats your wallpaper?

  • Thanks Eric.

  • 19:48 woooo, hahahaha:D nice video. found some new apps:) TY!

  • OMG you're lucky - you own Inglorious Bastards... I so want that film, but my download speed is shocking so down-ing off iTunes would take an age... I need to save up to buy on DVD XD!!! Anyway, nice app folder :P Oh, and I got FetchArt and it's a nice little app :P Oh, and I got MainMenu for free through the MacUpdate Holiday Promo (two apps for free)... It's cool!

  • save up? Its like $10

  • @Appleaddict22 Well, you know what I mean? I haven't got round to buying it yet :/ And I can't find it in any shope local to me, so I guess I'll have to wait :D

  • How do you spell that VisualHub add-on that allows you to use different pre-sets at once? Sounds like 'millo' or 'milo'. Can't make out the name in the video.

  • well that was cool. i made a list of stuff im going to look for myself.

  • Nice to see that you have programs that are copies of Windows apps. For example, disk inventory x. On their website, the guy actually said he got the idea from someone else who made WinDirStat.

Also so many different torrents (including a paid one? LOL) and dvd rippers. Windows users do not need multiple apps for a single purpose, we can find prorgams that incorporate what we need into one app.

  • @kaosum2 .. I don't quite don't know why he's got so many different torrent and ripper applications. On my Mac I only have one of each. Transmission for torrents and Handbrake for ripping DVDs. Similarly when I'm using my PC, I only need one of each.

  • I mean I understand if he has a site reviewing apps (like how CNet does) but he doesnt. So its a waste.

  • And what if he does like reviewing apps, but for himself?

  • Comment removed

  • And to reply to your deleted commend emperordarius, give us an example of something you do in OSX that requires 3x the amount of apps Windows has.

  • Final Cut Studio.

Burning software. Toast for Mac is very slim and efficient, compared to what the Windows version and Nero are. Have to get separate programs for the same thing.

iMovie. On Windows I have either to pay or have to get several free programs to do something near the quality of iMovie.

Video Converting. On Windows you have to get several programs to balance stability and format support.

Consider the extra security apps, system cleaning, system tweaking etc. and you'll see.

  • emprerodarius, well obviously you have no clue what your talking about. yes, a lot of pc users run linux distro's, if you got your head out of your ass and stopped spamming the comments maybe you would be able to open your eyes, unless your a fat kid that lives with his mom and 20 cats..?

    dont know, decision is yours.

  • My point was that "PC" is what is generally used for Windows.

I wasn't talking about Linux, if I had I would have specifically said "Linux Machine".

  • no emperadarius, your'e categorizing "PC" for personal computer, to the os that Microsoft made. just because a pc runs "windows" doesn't make it a "pc", i have a linux distro on my pc, and guess what i call it, a PC.

  • True. However with any OS if you have customised it both at a hardware level and a software level it becomes a PC since it's a computer that's personal to you.

  • @emperordarius

Then why don't you say "Windows machine", seeing as "PC" doesn't refer to any specific kind of software (OS or otherwise), it refers to any computer that appeals to a normal user.

  • Linux Machines? Here we go another macward idiot. Linux runs on a PC

  • Ok, the way you like it.

I've got a car, but my friend's got a car. My dad's got a car, but my uncle's got a car.

Does it make sense? How about replacing 'car' with Mercedes, Ford, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc.?

  • ... That supports our argument, not yours, you twit.

"I've got a PC running iMovie and a PC running Crysis"

How about replacing "PC" with say, "Mac" and "Alienware". Or other comparable terms that make SENSE.

  • Ok then, consider this situation.

A and B have got a new car.

A has got car like all the others.

B has got some revolutionary new flying car that one and only one company makes. Let's say it's called a Mac.

Would it make sense that much for B to say "I've got a car" instead of "I've got a Mac?"

We're talking about computers running completely different OSes, so it makes perfect sense to call them differently, and not just by brand.

  • Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premier by themselves can do what FCS can do. For burning, you can use Infrarecorder. iMovie is a basic movie editor/creator, Live Movie Maker is around the same.

For video converting, what format? This category has multiple apps for each OS, theres not one ultimate video converting software. Most of the system cleanup utilities are using what is built into Windows, same with the tweaking. Its just a friendlier interface. As for security, use a hardware firewall.

  • Avid Media Composer and Premiere can do what Motion, SoundTrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Final Cut Pro, Compressor and Color all together can do? Since when?

Please, don't compare Movie Maker with iMovie. There's just no comparison.

Infrarecorder hasn't got all the features of Toast. I don't want only burning.

Video converting in general. Some apps support a lot of format but can't handle big files well enough, others support less but can handle big files well...so no single program can be used.

  • @emperordarius

What can iMovie do that's so special?

  • Probably fuck all, i also love his bullshit about what he would need on a pc in terms of av as etc, ive microsoft security essentials and have no problems. Love how this tool blows things totally out of proportion, seems to have the opinion as soon as you;ve online you;ve gonna get hamered with viri.

Just makes me wonder what kinda sites he browses to need all that protection, probably a fan of beastiality.

  • @TheEire55

I love Security Essentials. It's so good, but at the same time it's lightweight and doesn't use much resources at all.

He's probably a twilight fan. That encompasses bestiality and necrophilia.

  • Well iMovie is better than WMM becuase is high resolution and has chroma keying features, and there are more, In fact there ways to create luma and alpha mattes and import them into iMovie and can use them as transitions, Movie maker canst do anything except organize clips, with lame transitions, itz no better then power point! Plus the quicktime movie format can export with alpha channel transparency, but wmv doesn't; avi has worse quality than quicktime movies, so iMovie>WMM!

  • @macjsus

I don't know much about anything you said, but I'm glad that you actually have reasons to back up your argument unlike others.

I should mention that Windows Live Movie Maker can export in HD though.

I expect iMovie to be better, iLife is a commercial product. Windows Live is freeware.

  • iLife is a commercial product.

Yes, except it is free with every new Mac so it actually IS free.

I'll have to add that iMovie has much better text transitions and that cool globe location effect.

  • @emperordarius

No, iLife is not free, iLife is included with new Macs similarly to how many Windows PCs include software such as Microsoft Works.

I hope you'll find that bundled software on any computer is not "free" and that you pay for it in some way, and that future updates also cost money ($80~ for iLife?).

  • It is free as long as you get a fully functional version with every new Mac. You aren't forced to upgrade, right?

  • @emperordarius

iLife itself is not "free" though, and it is not proper to state that it is. It is "free with new Macs", but the iLife product itself is $79.

  • Sorry, but Windows' built-in cleanup apps are useless to me.

    Same with tweaking? Nope.

Yeah, and I'm gonna be safe with a hardware firewall. AV, AS, HIPS, FW that's what you need AT LEAST.

  • Hmmm, Camtasia works excellently on Windows, I can't think of anything else I would want to use.

  • Have you tried Screenflow? It's simply the best out there, on any platform. Mac only, of course.

  • No, I haven't tried Screenflow, as I have no need to purchase a Apple computer, just for that.

    Camtasia works nice for me.

  • Then its not the best on any platform if its Mac only.

  • It is the best, compared to the apps that are available on the other platforms, too.

  • Never had to do this on a yearly basis, well, I use Windows, but that shouldn't make a difference, I only install what I need, not just random stuff to use 1 time only.

  • how to u get the video longer than 20 min i have to have my video shorter than 10 min....

  • @TechTalkApple Hes PArtnered

  • Or if you are someone who has a channel that predates late 2006 before Google took over YouTube essentially, in their "partnership" with YT.

  • he's a youtube partner

    they get special privileges ;)

  • Dude! Xmoto is so easy! I used to play it all the time when I had my iBook G3. But now the down and right keys on my G4 doesent work, and I suck if I use wsad.

And why not show the 3D apps? Personally, I suck at Blender, but am lovin Cheetah 3D. If only it had a particle system...

  • its not the gay pride desktop background, its the old school apple logo

  • Isn't that the same thing though?

  • u have anything against gays?

  • i dont have anything against gays, but that colors are on the gay flag....so..

  • and.... it's a rainbow

guess what up till the late 90's the apple logo was a rainbow apple.

not every rainbow has to relate to gay rights.

do you see redwhite and black and always think nazi's

    (look up blood flag)

  • but apparently every logo that uses the colors red, blue, green and yellow relate to microsoft..... (see applesoldier's other videos). lol

so in AS's logic, the old apple logo relates to gay rights, lol.

  • 8:35 haha.

  • cool man...keep up the good continuous work
