Teresa Berganza should give master classes in giving master classes! She is so disarmingly honest, AND funny, in a nice way. Her little smooch to the pianist is irresistible, she is all enthusiasm, warmth and generosity. An excellent advice to the talented mezzo, direct attack on the final top note!
Another thing I notice in this great class is her modelling of the 'inner smile' that is so helpful to singers who have difficulty opening up inside. It helps to lift the muscles that are dragging down so that the upper resonant cavities can open up.
its so hard to teach a student in one lesson how to really use the face. she keeps opening vertically instead of hitting the notes horizontally. it is difficult to understand, it takes practice
@Webarton I do agree, what's most important is to have the accurate sense of the shape of the note and vowel inside your head (physically and mentally). How open your mouth is from the outside is of secondary importance, or irrelevant as long as the sound is being properly produced.
At tha TB says that Rossini is very difficult to sing because it is very technic. It's too bel canto but you must have a very good technic to sing Rossini. She calls him her maestro because you have to sing with the brath. It is the purety of the notes.
Rossini mean happyness. When you sing Rossini it is like the best Champagne of France.
the girl has a good voice but doesn't knows to sing coloraturas. Teresa at the begining seems to be doing some unnecessary ballet but later becomes a really good teacher. Bravi!
Absolutely agree, what's not to love about Teresa? And to be able to take a master class in a role, from the greatest interpreter of that role...what an experience!
I like that she comments on technical work and not just character work. Most masterclasses arent very helpful but she covered a lot especially the language!
I'm glad to know Ms Berganza is leaving behind her the legacy of one of the most spotless techniques ever heard on the stage.
As a singer in training I also love the opportunity to watch her while teaching: I feel I have the opportunity to "steal" a little from her though her pupils here are at a far more advanced level than I.
I agree. I do the same thing too. Although, its not recommended to put the techinques to practice once you actually have a solid foundation (singing techinque and the basic raw talent there).
I'm surprised because mezzos typically develop later, but this mezzo has a beautiful voice and to me sounds like one of the best out of all these masterclasses.

sí. Rossini escribió " Si Lindoro". Pero "Lindaro" ayuda a la dicción.

sei sicuro/a ?

do you think she said "si Linda" to help her place the high note with an open throat??? I'm quite sure berganza knows it's Lindoro
