This is really amazing. I'd love it if my horse could do this! How exactly did u teach him? only is you can be bothered, could you make another video showing the procedure for learning this step by step? Thanks x
The basic info is in the first lay down video (Oct. 2007). I first taught him to tolerate falling/being pulled over, basically. Then, once he got used to laying down on command, I refined it, as you see here and my later videos, to simply asking him to lay down on his own (using his favourite roll-spots as incentive).
As for a second video, I'm afraid that's impossible as I have since sold Cloud. He is now the playmate of a young girl in AZ, and very happy, I'm told!
There is advice here on this comment page and also on my latest video (posted as a video response to this vid). There are great articles and videos on the net with step by step instructions, but I would hope that you were able to do everything I mentioned below, on this comment page, BEFORE you go about trying it.
ok i bought jackie jhonsons trick training book . she is an amazing trainer and you can see her video if you you tube jaxnreamo . yes ill post a video comment ! the bow was really cool not sure how many sessions but less than a week of training . i will be starting on the lay down as soon as i return home and will be perfecting the bow ill let you all know how it went !
Hello I really want to train my horse to do this Please HELP!! Im going to start training for this as soon as I know how to include the command .so she will eventually understand the command !
YES she I can sit on her when she is laying down she will Role when Im standing next to her , she pulls a tarp and will walk on one. she will stand on a pedistal if I ask but she doesnt know the command yet . she loads in a trailer WONDERFULLY she is calm and she doesnt freak out when wearing hobbles she is gentle and learns very quickly ! I think she is ready !
You can google for step-by-step instructions, but the directions but the most important element was TIME. Go slow, don't rush.
I spent 10 sessions teaching the bow, 4 sessions to get to this video, 20 sessions to get to my second video and another 20++ to perfect it. Go slow, do NOT rush, be good to your horse, and it will go well for you.
Was recomended to watch your video off the Parelli Savvy Club forum, amd very glad thta i did :) well done you two are beautiful together, i cant wait to see how my girl responds to learning some new tricks :)

This stage in my lay-down journey is good... but check out the video responses for something even better -- or search "Cloud's Second Parelli Play".

Can you approach your horse in the field when he's sleeping without him getting up?
Can you hobble him or limit the mobility of his feet without him panicking?
Will he roll when you are 5 feet away or closer?
Is he OK with tarps and other scary things being put on top of him?
Will he load into a trailer or step on a pedistal/log if you ask him to?
Is he calm 99% of the time?
Because until he can do all those things, you'll never get a good lay-down.
