Oh, and this isn't very easy stuff, so asking this question wasn't stupid.
It's not surprising that Mike and the rest of the DT boys do interesting things like this with odd and even "made up" time signatures; they all went to Berklee School of Music. They're musical geniuses who happen to rock out with their cocks out.
I'm surprised this confused people, 3:02 - 3:14 made me suddenly understand so much more of progressive rock time signatures and what they actually do to the music. Like turning a light on this is suddenly simple for me to understand. Thanks for this footage!

Listening to Rush and Frank Zappa have seriously transformed my view of rhythm, I really recommend listening to a song by Rush called La Villa Strangiato. It encompasses all you'll need if you're a rocker. Frank Zappa is a whole different ball game.

@FamGuitarist - 4/4 is the mainly known Signature, but its good to be able to play all the complicated Time Signatures. Improve your Technique, I intend to do that as a Bass Player.
That 4/4+5/8 is a great way to get am accesible dance beat to a strange song. Bill Bruford took the same approach on King Crimson's song "Discipline". He's a good teacher of more advanced topics.
