We need the money to start a movement for suicide prevention. We need the money to start the awareness campaign we wish to start. We need this money for fuel, bike supplies, food, water, and to make this trip safe.
i know this has nothing to do with the content of the video, but the first guy that speaks looks like that guy from the 70's show, the one that played venom in spiderman 3
If I was still cycling I'd join you guys. I lost a friend to suicide in the 7th grade, I'm now a senior in college and it still tears me up a bit inside.
traveling for long periods of time, yet in more comfortable conditions, i have gained inconditional friendships that will endure time and hardships. so i trust you will return home changed men and tighter that ever before.
now, just one comment on the side... kyle, do you really think "to prove everybody out there that this (America) is the greatest country in the world" is the goal and view an international studies major should have?
I hope you have the bikes for it too. You'll need to carry everything you'll need too. I don't know if you're going for campsites or hotels, but you'll need supplies.
I'd recommend a decently configured X-tra bike or the "Long Haul Trucker" (for conceptual reasons probably more than good advise from someone who knows what they're talking about) made by Surly.
Get it done, good reasons, crazy plan- but do able.
yo fellas! I think this is a great thing you 4 are doing! I am dealing with depression as well and I wish I can have true friends to do things for me like this. Anyways guys good luck and God bless you all.
i think this is a great idea, but something you guys need a lot of training for. biking may seem easy, but believe me, if you dont train, 2 hours on a bike will kill you. i hope it works, good luck.
When you have your route plotted out, let us all know - I'm from ND - I'll make sure we've got medical personnel lined up for Nathan and his failing heart!
This is a beautiful thing you're all doing - may you have good weather, enduring friendship, and lots of luck! I can't wait to see you come through the northern plains!
no, the news video said that guy is going on the ride with them, but anyway its none of your business which guy it was because they're all united in this now
this is probably one of the best ideas ever thought of to deal with suicide awareness. All i have to say is make sure your route allows bikes to use the road.
You know guys... if your school has an ROTC program, a great way to get in shape is do the Physical Training with them. Most schools let you take the class or do the training without actually being in the program. It's a good way to keep you motivated.
Great! It's a great and crazy idea. Of course there are other things, for instance I'd strongly recommend skydiving! It's the best rush I've ever gotten in my entire life! I jumped out of a plane, twice, both from 14,000 feet. It's alotta fun...of course it's great that you guys are doin this but there are other extreme ways of doing it and cheaper ways, just fyi. Keep up the good work.
this is amazing. you guys are really committing to something important, and you absolutely will have the experience of a lifetime! go through with it all the way. we're all watching and supporting you!
Ok...first off...if anyone thinks you can't bike that far shut up...i know a guy who biked from the east coast...dipped the back tire in the atlantic...to the west coast....dipping the front tire in the pacific...if they want to do it they can...
to the person below me..STFU!! If you dont like it or think its stupid than dont comment..way to go guys!! keep it up! San Antonio supports you! and even the Cayman Islands supports you!

Dooooooouuccchhhhe bags. There is no possible way they'll be able to make it. That's over 4000 miles. You'll probably make it to Ft. Worth and quit, Amarillo if you're lucky.
Ha. Think what you want. These guys are dedicated to doing this and they've already got over 60,000 people behind them. There's already people asking them to go through their town so that they can join in on the trip.
And they're training like madmen too. So just because you probably couldn't do it, doesn't mean that these guys could.
i've biked from Tupelo Mississippi to Natchez Mississippi, 118 Miles (practically the whole length of the state) and that was very difficult, taking weeks of training. i hope you guys have a really good game plan, because we even had a van with water and stuff that met us at certain checkpoints.
Just something i'd like to say. People don't place limits on themselves. If someone feels so bad that they don't want to live, that's a mental disease, and it wasn't their choice. What this friend needs is a realization that alot of people feel like shit just like him. I feel like shit. Infact I want to kill myself. I joined the facebook group though. 5,000 joined just today, looks like you're going to have to prepare your bikes. Good luck. ;)
Dallas supports you! :] This is such a wodnerful idea! My best friend used to be suicidal and this campaign will mean a lot to her! She knows how to help others out of the dark now, too! :] Good luck, guys!
this is such a cool idea! good luck! you should get a paypal account or something so people (aka other poor college students like me) can donate $5 or $10. it will add up!
Sounds awesome...I've wanted to bike across the US for a while now, so maybe this will give me an idea on how to do it. I just subscribed. I want to see how this turns out. Oh and just to let you know, and I saw the group on facebook. Nice work.
keep up the good work guys. great video and great project. don't worry about those who will criticize how "serious" you guys are. the fact that you've managed to garner so much support is testament that you know how to communicate the message to people in way that resonates with them.
I'm totally for this! I was kinda unsure when first seeing the facebook group, but after watching the video and realizing exactly what y'all are doing, I'm actually pretty excited about this. If you need a place to stay on your way through Dallas call me!! haha.
It most likely will be in the summer months...were still working on getting up a website, becoming non-profit, and getting the other infastructure together (hope I spelled that right).
thanks for the support yall! Were gonna be in close touch with you Texas 4000 folks real soon hehe...we want to learn everything yall know! Also, expect another blog either thursday or friday.
Honestly, fuck what others say. You guys have a goal set in mind. Strongly. That alone is something most people have trouble doing. Carrying out is another thing. And I respect you all for this. You're not just helping out a suicidal friend... you're helping out the world by inspiring each and every individual.
Keep it up. I'll be looking for you guys in the news.
We have to laugh to stay motivated. Our next video will be alot more serious...and we do take this serious and this issue has hit close to home...however...we have to stop sometimes and smell the roses in order to stay focused.
actions are inspiring enough. doing something "crazy" gets attention. awareness is the key to suicide prevention. not being serious.
my sister committed suicide at age 30. harvard undergrad. harvard mba. international consulting firm jobs, great career, great achievements...took life TOO seriously and ran out of reasons to live.
