Hey man, why dont u transfer power wirelessly to the rotating part? I can see there is some kind of "brush" or "commutator" on the board and think it will be worn out soon. Instead make a coil on board and rotate it across a magnet, add some regulator, with that speed i think the board can make enough power for itseft.

What is the battery life and how long a single LED will glow?

I bet multicolor led might be used. But it'll make your work a little bit harder.

The "heart" of this clock is ATMEGA32- microcontroller, so you'll need programing skills. But thanks to that- you are allowed to do nearly everything (including multicolor LED).

He didn't use battery. He used atx AC adapter (from old PC) (5V@250mA and 12V@80mA)

Author said, that making the animation wasn't a big deal- one evening of programming. Anyway great job.
