Whenever I put the contrast up, it makes the white darker and doesn't pop it at all. However, when I put it down, it does exactly that. Does it matter if I reduce the contrast on it instead of increase it?
Hey! If it all turns black you may need to dial back the blur. Too much blur makes the white completely disappear. If you do the brightness/contrast and nothing happens, there isn't any 'white' to contrast. Also, make sure the file is 120 dpi or so... it might not have enough color to work with. HTH. :-)
dude when i do it all the stars are clustered and when u do it theres only a few stars i looked at the numbers when u adjust brightness contrast they exactly the same as when i did it...
I'm on PS7... 2 possible reasons it is fuzzy, what file size/resolution are you using? The filter effects will be different depending on the resolution/file size. Also, did you try the adjust - brightness/contrast? When you up the contrast it makes the blobs bolder, and when you lower the brightness it brings them down to points. HTH
Do you have a better method? I know of about 3 or 4 different methods, but this is the simplest/quickest method. I have seen some that give better effects, but have many more steps.
when you merge layers... is the white set to dissolve, the black set to normal?... usually when you merge layers, it defaults back to normal layer, so the white should be visible. is your file 800/600 at 120 dpi? try those and let me know what happens.
Are the layer properties of the top layer set to screen? You want the top (color star) layet set to screen, so it only shows the color stars and the black from the white star layer shows. Don't forget... when you merge layers it defaults back to 'normal' layer... change top layer to screen, bottom to normal. HTH
I LOVE YOU!

I'm just getting a heavy mess of blurry spots, to your knowledge has anything changed between your version of photoshop (I'm guessing it's 7), to CS4?
Or is there anything I could have done wrong?

Sorry but that's quite a poor starfield. And more hassle than is necessary. You can get better results with less steps.
