The Spirit was a vigilante who appeared in the 1940's. His stories range from straight foward Noir crime fiction too Comedy and love stories. Femme fatales appeared in the book quite often. He was a cop but after he faked his own death he fight as a masked vigilante, that gave him the freedom to fight a Crimelord Nicknamed Octopus. Contrary to what the Marketing for this movie might tell you, neither the Book or the Movie will be Sin City 2. I've seen clips of this movie and is NO Sin City.

They wrap the story up with the Spartans and Greeks uniting under 40,000 strong and rushing in to defeat Xerces. Obviously there won't be a second. I think Eisner originally did the Spirit in the late 40s and the 50s. Miller probably wasn't even born yet. I'm not familiar with Einer's work other than the Spirit. Miller may have worked on Eisner's later projects. I will have to check out the reprints on ebay-- or dig through my old stuff when I go home to see my Mom later this summer.
