  • Someone tell Friedkin he left the coathanger in.

  • the french connection is friedkin's best film

  • I like his taste. That is very rare in this kin of videos.

  • Finally, someone with taste!

  • pfft.

  • wat the hec is citesin cane

  • @jimbobhk2009 you have to be the stupidest person, in spelling and in general. Citizen Kane is considered the greatest film of all time! Look It Up!

  • @StupidFuckingTrolls HAHA that was just bait my friend ; )

    and you're the fish!

  • @jimbobhk2009 then you what are you waiting for? EAT ME!

  • It's strange. Because there's a difference between the greatest film and a favorite film.

  • @Dgamer21 wrong

  • @tpmableful Wrong, how?

  • @Dgamer21 THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE!

  • @tpmableful To say that one movie is the greatest movie ever made is arbitrary. Someone's favorite film does not necessarily have to be the "official" greatest film. In fact, the reason why these film polls like AFI say that Citizen Kane is the greatest movie, is because it's actually THEIR favorite film. You clearly have no sense of fact and opinion.

  • crash

  • Rooooooooossssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeeebbbbbbbbbbuuuuuuuuud

  • This was edited, the original quote was: "My favorite film is Citizen Kane because I'm an accomplished filmmaker and that's what I'm suppose to say now leave me alone"

  • haha of course its citizen kane

  • Greatness inspires Greatness

  • Citizen Kane is just perfect.

  • you're right. its quite literally the perfect film. chances are something of that magnitude won't be made in a very long time.

  • @swordpunisher I believe there is one miss-cut in it. However, each time I watch the movie I try to convince myself I am wrong. It has to do with a journalist's hat.

What makes Kane greater than other movies is that it inspires one to be an artist or the very least a romantic. I have never heard anyone say that because they saw The Godfather or GWTW (perhaps the most overrated movie) they wanted to become a director, writer, etc. In other words after one sees K, one wants to do something.

  • @Novak67766 Bruce Willis wanted to become an actor because of Pacino's performance in The Godfather and that's just one example...

  • @ANOMALY1ate That doesn't quite have anything to do with the movie. That has something to do with the performance. Willis was instilled by the performance, if true. I write this, because I do not see anything of Pacino in Willis. Kane is a director's movie. It drives one to want to do everything. I just did not get that from The Godfather, which I enjoy very much.

  • And my favorite movie is The Exorcist! Its brilliance as a serious film is often overlooked.

  • Dude...Friedken sounds just like Donald Trump.

  • Well that's because they're both from New York.

  • my favorite video is probably Goodguys by marton scorzee

  • I didn't love Citizen Kane, i thought it was alright. But the influence that had on filmmakers during the 60s and particularly the 70s is unmeasurable.

  • They're talking about their favourite movie, not the greatest movie. Your favourite movie can be a guilty pleasure. Citizen Kane is famed for its bravura sequences, but it didn't make me care for its characters and story.

  • I don't think Citizen Kane is the greatest film ever made but it's clearly one of the most important. Without Kane, cinema would be nothing like it is today. That's not an opinion; that's a fact.

As for Friedkin, he is a prick but he's also one of the most underrated American filmmakers of all-time: The French Connection, The Exorcist, Sorcerer, Cruising, To Live and Die in L.A., and he's proven he's still got it with Bug.

  • So what is the greatest movie then? Maybe it hasn't been made yet?

  • Well in my opinion it's Apocalypse Now but that could very well change. As you say, maybe it hasn't been made yet.

  • Those are super good questions. I think that the greatest movie has been made. It's whatever each individual feels it is. Thats the joy of film. We get to make our own decision and its niether right nor wrong. Its who we are and what we like. I'm a youngen and though I can really appreciate rebel without a cause and It happened one night...I also LOVE Lord of the Rings, Jaws, Interview with the Vampire and Almost Famous.

  • One of the true greats

  • at last someone said never will a movie match "Citizen Kane" when you know how it was made it's even more of a triumph.A true genius work at the age of 25!!!

  • Yeah, yeah, yeah, Citizen Kane it's a perfect movie, it really is I'm not being ironic this time. But, it's obvious, clear, crystalline, everyone who likes to watch perfect movies, thinks it, because Orson Welles was perfect every director wants to be him. But he, I mean William Friedkin had to be more creative, you know? He could say any B-movie in the 40's or 50's, I don't know! But not a obvious movie like that. I think that he even wouldn't to think about it, because he looks very arrogant.

  • Freidkin's Sorceror remake of the early French film Wages of Fear about truck drivers hauling dynamite was actually marvelous. On DVD, but mediocre quality, and doesn't project large onto a front projection screen...just goes around 40 inches with just fair resolution.

  • citizen kane rules

  • anyone who says citizen kane is boring or rubbish is a simpleton and probably a bummer

  • But, Citizen Kane is the greatest movie. Orson Welles was a true magician.

  • what a generic choice.

  • I understand that Citizen Kane, like many great films, isn't for everyone but I'm tired of people saying 'it sucks' or 'it's boring' as if it applies to everyone.

It can be just as bad when people act like, 'if you don't like Citizen Kane, then you don't like films'. Personally, I don't focus on what films I hate, but what I like.

  • Comment removed

  • Citizen Kane is one of the least boring old movies ever. This is coming from a guy who usually shits on classic film (pre 1970) and calls the load of it overrated.

But CITIZEN KANE is one film that has earned its stripes.

  • LOL, typical douchebag who needs to start his comment with "I've taken film classes or I've taken acting lessons..." as if that actually makes their criticisms any more valid, to me you just sound like a pretentious piece of shit and considering that you love "The Dark Knight", I don't know what room you have to be calling "Citizen Kane" a "boring mother fucker of a movie".

  • William Friedkin is one of the best directors in Hollywood.

  • great, it was influential, but i can't bring myself to watch it these days... i think it would be fake of me to watch it only to jump on the bandwagon

  • Well, everyone has their personal tastes, and the resonance of Citizen Kane is being lost the further it recedes into the past. Still one of the greatest films of all time.

  • Woohoo! Citizen Kane IS the best movie of all time!

  • In this time of violent turmoil, bleak economy, and mass confusion, the times beg the question:

    Um, what's yer favorite movie?

  • They should've asked the celebs who they were voting for.

You would've really seen some bobbing and weaving then. ;)

  • So many of these people lie about their favorite movies. They always choose the ones from the AFI Top 100 list.

  • Sometimes I think the people who made the AFI list have actually seen exactly 100 films.

  • I totally agree. I think they are full of it.

I think Citizen Kane is an awesome film, too, but I haven't seen it one-third as many times as I've seen Grease.

  • I'm glad I never saw it then.

  • And what's your favourite movie?

  • True, but in all fairness, the fact that Sorcerer went head-to-head with Star Wars has also meant that he has to take what he can get.

  • sorcerer was a great underated action suspense movie rent it !

  • He should have chose his own films ovwer "Kane." Anybody know where I might get a bootleg copy of "The Night They Raided Minsky's?"

  • Not exactly a surprising choice, I suppose, but it's hard to argue. Poor Friedkin. Hollywood has not been good to him, and his career has not gone well.

  • Poor Friedkin? If I directed one of the greatest horrors movie ever made - The Exorcist - I'd retire. I wouldn't care if my career went into the toilet after that.

That movie freaked me out so much, I call him William Freakin.

  • I agree. The Exorcist seems less effective now--probably because it's been imitated so much by subsequent films--but when it was originally released, nothing else even came close. Movie gave me nightmares for YEARS.

I don't like the re-edit. I think it cheapened the film. I guess the original wasn't exciting enough for today's brain-dead audience. Too much dialogue and acting - not enough CGI. I'm just glad they didn't make a musical remake out of it.

  • The Exorcist: The Musical starring Lindsay Lohan as Regan MacNeil! "Ohhh, I'm just wild about Satannnn, Satan's wild about meeeeeee!". ROFL!

OMG, let me STFU before somebody thinks that it might actually be a good idea.

  • Lindsay Lohan in a musical remake of a classic horror film. Now there's a good reason to kill myself! Shit, Lindsay Lohan merely existing is reason enough too.

  • Lindsay Lohan in anything is justification for both homicide and suicide.

  • bit of a crowd pleasing, cliched choice.

  • True, but I suppose that it's a hard one to argue with.

  • hmmm

  • I'd have to go with Kill Bill. Breaking it down into 2 parts was absolutely genius and the fact that the first part was all action and the second part was all story to me seems to be the most complete movie of all time. And the final scene between Uma and David is perhaps the best dialog between good/bad guy ever.

  • shut up, that 2nd film had the dullest dalogue ever, great if you're like 12

  • * know

  • Greatest movie ALL TIME bar none...The Graduate...Great actor Dustin Hoffman...GREATEST SOUNDTRACK EVER the movie and music are timeless film students take heed. We'ed like to lnow a bit about you for our files...we'ed like to help you learn to help yourself...Simon and Garfunkels crowning achivement...buy it rent just see it!!!

  • good film, but i didn't really get any message out of it and it didn't challenge me. i often like films that are very raw and lingering.

  • Great movie great soundtrack but not the greatest of all time.Double Indemnity,The Godfather,Casablanca

  • HA! I'm dull, I thoguht it meant... AFI as in the band... lol

  • nah.. it's the exorcist an all it's sequels

  • AFI? thats like.. miss murder and stuff =] lol jk

  • he lies, friedkin meant to say the original manchurian candidate :)

  • Mine Is French Connection, weard that you amde it, huh=)

  • Citizen Kane? Sort of cliche right?

  • yes, but still a great movie

  • It is the greatest movie ever mde.
