That's put me right off buying a Mac. To think I was going to spend £2,500 and all along it would only take somebody a couple of minutes to hack my machine. He would have to be in the sat at my desk, though.

I'm security engineer and look at both PC and Mac from outside the box, not from Mac store genius that knows shit about real guts of that machine but has just one goal - to tell you as many lies as possible just to sell this overpriced made in China machine. I know both PCs and Macs has its flaws, but to say that mac are way superior to PCs is the biggest lie. I hack both on daily bases and see the real truth. On both i can exploit the same principles, both are using ports and use Java...etc
I still don't see the point in buying a Mac. Just get Linux, It's superior, and free. Plus there are tons of distributions that can be tailored to fit YOUR needs. No proprietary BS.
@emokidx555 Just because they haven't heard of it doesn't make it inferior. I don't care weather Linux ever becomes more main stream, the fact is that it's very stable and quick. That's why it's used in so many servers! Linux servers can run for years with out having to be taken offline for maintenance, etc. Linux must be doing something right to have records like that. Do research before you start spewing crap like that out.
@YourTechAdmin I know that, and I use Linux every day, that's what my dedicated server uses! Yes, it's very good, I like it, but it's much more appealing to developers and the likes. The mac appeals to everyone, developers, designers and the general public.
I've bought 2 PC's and 3 laptops in the past 6 years, and at some point they either have driver errors, usb problems, "cd not found" etc etc, and unusable. Bought the mac and I won't ever need to buy another again. Worth the extra money!!

I have Ccleaner on my task bar. 1 click to open, 1 click to go to the uninstall page, and 2 clicks to uninstall Total time spent: less than 10 seconds.
Oh, and your Mac...it's still uninstalling the program after you send it to trash, it's just doing it as a background process.............

Yes, we can. We can discuss how PC's are better at being customized than a Mac, and for a lower price too. Fact is, iMacs have limited customization ability, usually due physical space limits. That's the price you pay to have an aesthetically pleasing computer, you lose hardware capability. MASSIVELY.
Now don't get me wrong, Macs have their uses (or, at least some Mac based PROGRAMS do). They bare OKAY for basic video editing, quite nice for sounds design, and most have a nice 2K display (the 27" iMacs) but the fact is they are still MASSIVELY overpriced. I'm not even kidding when I say that, for the price of a 21.5" iMac with a Quad Core i7, I can get DOUBLE the specs out of a custom PC AND a larger (24") screen. Macs simply aren't worth the hardware put into them.
@AndrewDeLong That I do agree on, but if people decided to get an iMac that will be one they know they will never need to upgrade, then there's no issue. Saves them having to open a tower etc etc. If they choose the right mac like I have, they won't have that problem so macs are perfectly fine without them being customized like that, it's down to the user that's the issue. I will never need to upgrade, 4GB RAM and 250Gb HDD is more than enough for me, and playing COD etc games on it runs perfect
@emokidx555 Well, that's all fine for you, but for someone like me, who is getting into video graphics and video editing, iMacs are an extreme limitation. Seeing as I'm getting into heavy stuff like Adobe After Effects and Premeire Pro, I need a computer that has the raw horsepower to keep up, and I need one that can change with the times. A tower PC (custom) with a case like the Antec 1200 (seriously look that shit up, it's wicked cool) offers just such the upgradeability I need.
@AndrewDeLong Erm, everybody who does video editing know that the Mac software is much more superior to anything else, Sony Vegas pro, Windows etc. They are awful. You're obviously into buying additional hardware for your PC that you don't even need. COD is a big game, almost 7Gb in size and requires a decent spec machine to play it. Works perfectly on mine mac. Video editing does not require better spec machines as much as COD. Quit buying hardware, you don't need it.
@emokidx555 If you say that, then you OBVIOUSLY don't know about the system requirements for something like Premeire Pro CS5 or After Effects (a special effects standard in Hollywood). Premier Pro works with the Nvidia GTX 470 (Macs only have ATI cards) or above to enable it's MPE (which is something Final Cut doesn't even have), and After Effects works with RAM, the more, the better (16GB is a baseline minimum). So yeah, hardware is a MUST in video editing. Please, research before you type.
@AndrewDeLong When you buy something that is the "latest" thing out, how much does it cost? It's always more expensive than older models, so the Mac is pricey based on that alone, which is absolutely normal.
Sure, I can get a nice "PC" which has good specs for $700, but I would always be happier to pay $400 or $500 extra just to get a mac, and it's not because it's the latest thing and just looks good! I value the OS MUCH higher than Windows. You just can't compare Windows to Snow Leopard.

And hackers can be organized without it being a competition with incentives. I have nothing against Macs myself. Hardware wise they are pretty solid and efficient. Only problem I have is the price you are paying just for a logo. You can build a systems with the exact same specs and save yourself about $300 or more depending on what you are building.
Keep in mind that this guy could put his hands on the mac directly and was working with a logged in user (how else could he point it simply to a web url??).
When I remember correctly, they didn't manage to hack the Mac via a remote computer and not knowing any users set up on the system.

I still don't see the point in buying a Mac. Just get Linux, It's superior, and free. Plus there are tons of distributions that can be tailored to fit YOUR needs. No proprietary BS.

That's why it's used in so many servers! Linux servers can run for years with out having to be taken offline for maintenance, etc. Linux must be doing something right to have records like that. @YourTechAdmin I know that, and I use Linux every day, that's what my dedicated server uses! Yes, it's very good, I like it, but it's much more appealing to developers and the likes. The mac appeals to everyone, developers, designers and the general public.
I've bought 2 PC's and 3 laptops in the past 6 years, and at some point they either have driver errors, usb problems, "cd not found" etc etc, and unusable. Bought the mac and I won't ever need to buy another again. Worth the extra money!!

I have Ccleaner on my task bar. 1 click to open, 1 click to go to the uninstall page, and 2 clicks to uninstall Total time spent: less than 10 seconds.
Oh, and your Mac...it's still uninstalling the program after you send it to trash, it's just doing it as a background process.............

They bare OKAY for basic video editing, quite nice for sounds design, and most have a nice 2K display (the 27" iMacs) but the fact is they are still MASSIVELY overpriced. I'm not even kidding when I say that, for the price of a 21.5" iMac with a Quad Core i7, I can get DOUBLE the specs out of a custom PC AND a larger (24") screen. Macs simply aren't worth the hardware put into them.

@AndrewDeLong That I do agree on, but if people decided to get an iMac that will be one they know they will never need to upgrade, then there's no issue. Saves them having to open a tower etc etc. If they choose the right mac like I have, they won't have that problem so macs are perfectly fine without them being customized like that, it's down to the user that's the issue. I will never need to upgrade, 4GB RAM and 250Gb HDD is more than enough for me, and playing COD etc games on it runs perfect

Seeing as I'm getting into heavy stuff like Adobe After Effects and Premeire Pro, I need a computer that has the raw horsepower to keep up, and I need one that can change with the times. A tower PC (custom) with a case like the Antec 1200 (seriously look that shit up, it's wicked cool) offers just such the upgradeability I need.

You're obviously into buying additional hardware for your PC that you don't even need. COD is a big game, almost 7Gb in size and requires a decent spec machine to play it. Works perfectly on mine mac. Video editing does not require better spec machines as much as COD. Quit buying hardware, you don't need it.

@emokidx555 If you say that, then you OBVIOUSLY don't know about the system requirements for something like Premeire Pro CS5 or After Effects (a special effects standard in Hollywood). Premier Pro works with the Nvidia GTX 470 (Macs only have ATI cards) or above to enable it's MPE (which is something Final Cut doesn't even have), and After Effects works with RAM, the more, the better (16GB is a baseline minimum). So yeah, hardware is a MUST in video editing. Please, research before you type.

Sure, I can get a nice "PC" which has good specs for $700, but I would always be happier to pay $400 or $500 extra just to get a mac, and it's not because it's the latest thing and just looks good! I value the OS MUCH higher than Windows. You just can't compare Windows to Snow Leopard.

And hackers can be organized without it being a competition with incentives. If macs and windows could be switched tomorrow so that macs covered 90% of all desktops, they'd have the shit hacked out of them because they wouldn't be ready. Also this proves that with an incentive, macs are suddenly hackable.

When i get bore i run 7 ultimate and sometimes red hat.
I know macs are over priced but they can a few things a custom build would have trouble doing, booting osx with actual drivers that may not work. I own a mac but I'm looking forward to build me another custom build for my rendering needs. Macs are useful as pc platform computers are aswell. Linux on the shit :)

one note, they are not exact patches, but rather information gleaned, and used to create new osx patches by studying typical vunerabilities. That's also why osx gets updates. I have nothing against Macs myself. Hardware wise they are pretty solid and efficient. Only problem I have is the price you are paying just for a logo. You can build a systems with the exact same specs and save yourself about $300 or more depending on what you are building.

@amiger421 Apple Mac Pro MC561LL/A on amazon is 3500 dollars. Checked it's technical data. Two core-quad processors, 6 GBs ram, HD5770 ati radeon graphics card. 18x double-layer dvd-writer. Buying all those hardware parts costs: $180 motherboard, $140 graphics card, $65 HDD, $120 RAMs, $1102 two processors, $35 double layer dvd writer,$200 thermaltake case, $160 thermaltake 80plus 875watt powersupply. Total: $2002. I wonder if Apple uses a better case and powersupply? Don't think so.
