If this were true then nothing American would ever be seen in te UK and vice versa....I love movies like Hot Fuzz and Monty Python(well some of them)...also Queen is my fave band...also I <3 harry potter of course...you win the music and literary war.

What made the Office so funny was how subtle it was, and how believable all the characters were. It was almost as if no one was acting and the people in the programme were genuine. The American Office took all that and it just seems to try too hard. They aren't believable at all, it's too obvious that they're actors just trying to be funny.

The UK version is more realistic and the humor is buried in the dislike for David Brent. The US version is more of a connection to the lovable idiot Micheal, its less hard to understand than the UK version. Which is why it generally appeals more to the US viewer, its quick witty and doesn't take a genius to fathom it.

No offense meant by that, but generally to make a show a hit in the US you just need pretty people in it. In the UK pretty people are just stupid, no offense meant there either.

When you watch The Real Office, it's far more believable at being a documentary, rather than watching your version where it looks like any other standard American TV show, minus the canned laughter... But I liked that; like I enjoy many other American TV shows; but it's nothing like our version.

@jakmckratos6 - It lasted 2 years in the UK because Ricky Gervais didn't want to do anymore. And Gervais is an executive producer of the US Office with Stephen Merchant (Brit).

The original Office is more reserved-documentary style kind of humor, trying to reflect real life (well in the south of england which is a culture to itself). US office went towards the style of humor closer to "Come Fly With Me". Over-the-top in your face. That's why David Brent meeting Michael Sprott didn't work.
