  • A rare treasure, I've never heard this recorded properly. That is really something special.

  • I was at that concert. The sound was so bad because of the echo of the building. This is pretty much what it sounded like....Thanks for the recording.

  • This man had such a kind of fantasy ... he was beyond, unbelievable

  • 2/152,822 (.0013%) hate freedom, puppies, America, rock and roll, and everything you and I hold holy

  • Pretty amazing. Vocals are spot on!

  • MY HOME Town

  • JIMI YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!! She Comes To ME !!!!!!

  • JIMI YEAH !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • and damn hes smoking hot

  • my fave Hendrix song <3

  • Yessss The Royal Albert Hall is IMO the best live version. In the intro I really need to see how he plays that cause listening he plays a bass note sliding up and the treble sliding down. So how do you slide up and down at the same time??????? I think of all of his live stuff thats the one that REALLY intrigues me

  • @gbrown4x4 i am not sure but my guess is that he did the sliding up bass note with his right hand, and then reached over with with his "pick" hand, (in his case the left hand since he played lefty) and hammered the trable notes on the fretboard.

  • @markmarktarmann The thumb is the key to unlocking new musical frontiers! He frets the bass note with his thumb, leaving 4 fingers to work their magic!!

  • @gammafreak yeah thanks, but i was aware. i had pics of that hand position on my wall in' 1969.and wore out smash hits 3 times. my repub catholic john bircher dentist dad wouldn't let me go to commie druggie berkeley to see, you guessed it, his last west show "live on the West Coast". but the trick this guy was asking about went beyond the thumb over ....

  • @markmarktarmann wow wow talk about bummer dude!!

  • My greatest sadness is not to have any footage of this song

  • @renanmengo Hold out for the release of the Royal Albert Hall footage, it's on there. Hopefully soon!

  • for the solo it's got that same wah tone as the Winterland version, kind of sounds like it's bubbling without breaking the surface. Very understated but the kind of thing that only Hendrix would do, you notice he's never bombastic in this song like in the covers you hear.

  • This is beautiful. Any way to clean up the noise???

How can i get more of this?

  • any way to clean up the noise???

  • RIP Experience. One of thew bands that got me through middle and high school.

  • My mom was a high school student. She drove 72 miles to Spokane to see Jimi, live. 42 years later, I close my eyes and stand next to her.

  • Fuck Mike Jefferey !

  • They're playing "RISK".....doesn't that take you back?

  • this must of been at the spokane indian rez,,too beautiful

  • Thanks for this.

  • Thank you for posting - are they looking at the world in this photo?

  • shit, about the only good think that has happened to Spokane.

  • nice~ were you there~did you record this~Jimis voice sounds so good on this~love

  • learned this song by ear, and watching some skilled players play it and i only play 1 year and I'm 14 years old. Guess it's pretty good :p love this song (:

  • Man...I never knew Jimi was in Spokane...crazy I am from there!

  • Omg beautiful version of one of my favorite songs, and im from spokane....cheers mate thank you for this gem =)

  • Check out my Little Wing intro cover on my channel. It didn't really come out like i wanted it to, but it's good enough I guess. Check it out and subscribe! I"ll post a new guitar video when i get some more subs!

  • sweet...

  • jimmys the shit. every version is just a little bit different than the last, but still awsome in there own right

  • totally agree dude

  • My problem with these "videos" is that they're not videos but photos or a photo montage with audio. I can get live concert audio at Wolfgang's Vault. Is there anyone out there that has managed to get hold of live "video" footage of Jimi playing this song. Cheers.

  • there is verry few video material out there on the internet, mostly becouse VCR was expensive as hell and most of the video's didnt make it to the internet unless its been on TV

  • royal albert hall '69 you can watch him play it, unfortunately it has crappy visual fx aswell but its still good footage

  • @jarvisl8 Just read that EXP Hendrix has been "rescueing and restoring" all of the footage from BOTH Royal Albert Hall shows to be released soon as a DVD and theatrical release. Hopefully they will have cleaned up not just the Little Wing footage, but the freeking sparklers all over Voodoo Child!!

  • LOL! only Jimi could play this song beautifully more than ever! =:))

  • i dislike srv's version of little wing because i think it's way too slow and it just doesn't have that awesome sound and feeling jimi put into his music

  • Ji mi is so go od

  • Musical Ecstasy.

  • Thanks so much for giving us all this, & you needn't apologize for the audio quality: it's the fault of the record labels who refused to record sufficiently Jimi's concerts---taping cost nearly nothing, even a decent board recording on a cheap recorder could sound great, so at least the fans took matters into their own hands, "broke the law," and saved this exquisite version, a love-making version, for cultural history. Otherwise, without this fan & smuggled-rec'r, we'd never hear this rendition

  • Yes, couldn't agree more. Thank God not everybody worries about audio quality when it comes to pricelss music, or hardly any live performances would ever get heard! Do archeologists worry about broken pottery, damaged frescos & mosaics? They can still be beautiful!

  • That's a brillaint argument that I had never thought of: right, we don't junk, toss out the Venus de Milo because it's missing an arm,

or cracked, or damaged, and that same historic-preservation logic should apply in music to all greats, esp., Jimi, Velvet Underground, Kluster,

Zeppy, Stones, Germs, Fred McDowell, Coltrane,

Miles, JL Hooker, Burnside, Black Ace, Tommy, Lonnie, Robert Johnson, Willie Brown (all 3),

Satchmo, PiL (78-82), Ellie, Bolan, Bowie now you guys do some_______________

  • Whoops, my spelling miscarries so much & I can't get the spellcheck working: "Brilliant..

  • Yeah...... Well-put, You understand me my friend :-)

  • what are the odds they all would have that nappy ass fro hair?

  • This short little song shows Jimi's genius. My favorite version is the one on "Hendrix in the West" which also has the the astounding version of Red House.

  • @univibe23 The Hendrix in the West version of Little Wing is from the Royal Albert Hall concert in '69.

  • floobuscanoobus jimi died 9/18/70 not 9/17

  • R.I.P Jimi

    39 yrs ago today 9/17

you'll never hear surf music again

  • Very cool version. Thx

  • cool versin of what

  • Cool version of this song. Not the quality of the recording.

  • stunning version too bad it's poor quality

  • Oh my god, Jimi, you were here!?

  • man, there were some good vibes going on at this concert.

  • WTF i was plyin risk n i see this vid they're playing risk too XD

  • I am always amazed at the depth of Jimi's rhythm playing on this song. Such variety. Remember a tab book only "freezes" one take on the playing, but Jimi's could generate many, many different sly, twists to every chord structure...Im not sure any player could do that now or ever...

  • Well, I would have to say the world is filled with too many guitar "Tab" players...super scales players and not enough of players that have their own imagination. The 60ths players may have not been as refined but, they had what no guitar players have today...soul ,personal style, and creativity . You knew who was the guitarist back then because they had signature. Today every guitar player sounds the same, like they all brought that same book with speed scales .

  • @8153max

    Accurate statement...

  • @samansun Well thank you...you know I wasn't trying to sound harsh about it...it just the simple truth....

  • @8153max You man, mady my day, finally someone who realise it!, and also the others who thumbt up you comment

  • @StealAwayTheN1ght I can really appreciate when a real good acoustic player such as your self can really love Hendrix. Like I said...back in the 60's we had signature guitarists which Hendrix was one. And even SRV did little wing but you still knew it was SRV...just like you...it's Purple Haze alright...but it's you too.

  • @8153max Amen to that

  • @8153max what ur refering too.... is blues and rythem.... not many guitar players have PHRASING down..... its because the guitar requires an understanding blues.... from Guitar Watson to BB king.... BB king especially he is the KING of guitar PHRASING.... Buddy GUy is the KING of guitar ATTACK.... which is about feel..... in the 60s youd had to go through BLUES phrasing ..... to become a guitar player...... and American R&B.... to play music with the guitar....... people need to understand this

  • @codehendrix can't say enough about how much i agree with ya! There's alot of self- taught atheletes that can run... but none can run with the torch and still keep it LIT FOREVER like JIMI!!!

  • @codehendrix spot on. and you still have to. thru blues and gospel and swing. and THEN comes the funk.ask prince.. that's why so much "soul" and "r & B".aint got it...shit how can they even call it that? not much rythmn, definitely no blues.

  • @8153max i agree for the most part but there are players today who have "soul" and "creativity". Just listen to the black keys.

  • @8153max dude you dont know what you are talking about

  • fucking amazing guitarist.. read Room FUll of Mirrors. it follows him his whole life

  • I've read it, and it's a must-read for any jimi fan

  • such a good fucking book havnt finished it yet but i cant put it down

  • I'm at the part of Rull Full of Mirrors where he goes to Cali and plays Monterey! so exciting!

  • fantastic book!! im almost finished i won't say whats happening for u tho.

  • which book do you mean?

  • a room full of mirrors, i seriously recomend it

  • sick guitar. RIP james marshall hendrix

  • the royal albert hall little wing is untouchable by any cover i like srv but the vocals in little wing play an essential part

  • Spokane as in Spokane Washington huh? nice shit lol.

  • roy buchanan is another with soul that no one could touch :)

  • Let's not forget eric claptons cover. It was pretty damn awesome too!!!

  • wish I could find this recording in good quality... would be amazing!

  • Beautifully played by the master who wrote it. Only he can truly play and sing this song as it was meant to be heard. SRV's version is beautifully played... but nobody plays this better than Jimi.

  • I agree man! :)

I memorized SRV's amazing version, but everything hendrix touched was magical. His guitar had a voice, one nobody can ever replicate. Making him a true legend.

  • true but stevie had more modern equipment im not disagreeing with you just saying if hendrix was still alive then you really never know

  • true true. but with the crap thats mainstream now, he wouldnt be that big. which really says something bad about our generation

  • yea, i always thought had he not died, nobody would give a rats ass bout him

  • SRV messed up the song. He should never have touched it.

  • fuck you. stevie's good. but hes not better than jimi. get fuckin real man!

  • theres no comparison, hendrix could paint with music. he changed guitar forever, the ost innovative and greatest guitarist of all time. his little wig is waaayyy better

  • crowofwraith,

What specifically about SRV's style leads you to believe he was a better guitarist than Hendrix? Define BETTER.

  • crowofwraith,

Faster & more accurate. Yeah, that's generally the argument. Here's some things to consider...Knowledge of the neck. Improvisational ability. Diversity of tone and mastery of controlling feedback. Complete originality of phrasing. Use of alternate modes & scales. Ability to consistently solo without having to rely on repeating licks. Employing a multitude of rhythm styles, from that of Curtis Mayfield to Wes Montgomery ispired octave runs. Now, who am I describing, JIMI or SRV?

  • most of what your describing is in the song writing. ill admit jimi was very good at improvising but most of that is the written part of the song.

  • crowofwraith,

Incorrect. It's in the PLAYING. My point is, there's quite a bit more to playing than speed & accuracy. If THEY'RE all you judge a player by, you can listen to a monkey like Zakk Wylde, who is technically flawless yet has NOTHING interesting to say on the instrument.

  • i like zakk. we have different opinions. its more aestheticly pleasing to hear faster more accurate playing. its what i like.

  • crowofwraith,

"its more aestheticly pleasing to hear faster more accurate playing."

Even if its completely redundant, like Zakk's playing? Yeah, apparently we do have different opinions. The part of Hendrix's playing that I respect the most is that he was ALWAYS pushing it. He was NEVER repetitive. Did that at times lead to his missing notes? Of course. But that's a musician who had something inside that needed to be expressed. As opposed to a player simply playing repetitive scale patterns.

  • well cutglove then i guess u have no respect to any of the classical players who play all day nothing but music someone 300 years ago wrote?

they invent nothing so i guess they're no good musicians in your eyes?

  • AreYouExxperienced,

What are you talking about? How did you deduce THAT based on my comments about Hendrix?? When did I mention INVENTING in my posts? SPECIFICALLY, to which composers are you referring? Who is THEY?

  • Are YouExxperienced,

WELL?? I'm awaiting your answer. Are you confused?

  • jimi is the man. music isn't all about speed. however, you are entitled to your own opinion.

  • go fuck yourself

  • I reckon Jimi had a nicer touch on guitar but i suppose it's all a matter of opinion at the end of the day

  • go fuck yourself

  • WHAT! SRV copied Jimi not for note, could NOT control feedback like Hendrix, not even close, not cd. SRV play the cascade of notes, and as soulfully as Jimi: SRV could not touch either Machine Gun at Isle of Wight, Fillmore, Copenhagen, nor Hear My Train, Berkeley (70) Maui, ETC. No way. SRV isn't even as good as Robin Trower, Jeff Beck, or Pagey in Dazed 69-75. But of course nothing is true is Aesthetics, so yeah you're right about it all, yep..

  • Yeah! Altough the sound quality is quite horribly i can hear the hendrix improvising some great littlw wing licks! Hendrix rocks!! please check out and rate my pro Hendrix videos!!

    Peace And Happiness!!

  • Holy awesome!! That was really beutiful little wing. =) chech out my Red House Blues cover :>

  • Great pic there of Jimi and that Jefferies bastard :( hope he's burning in hell!

  • Hey gacelaxd!

No apologies necessary for the audio.

Most of us will take any & all the Hendrix we can get.

    Thanks for taking us there.

  • Oh, right on. No problem with the date, I knew it was the right show, and that's how they put the numbers in other countries (day/month/year) My dad went to this show and the show two days before in seattle.

  • It should say 9/8/68.

  • Sorry man. I just get confused because in Chile we write dates another way (day/month/year). But don't worry, I'll change it :)

  • @gacelaxd The Chilean way makes more sense anyway. lol. It operates in a gradually-increasing-in size way.

  • @gacelaxd Don't change it. Many Americans also use your format fo the day/month/year. i can figure it out so anybody can. Just be yourself. ♥ screw those people that have to pick out any little discrepancy. Guess they just can't enjoy the music.

  • @gacelaxd it's right in the UK, Canada, Australia etc....

  • Fuck you man!

  • @macandjacks only in the US, Elgish speaking countries say the day then month.

  • hey!

check a book ^are you experienced?^ by Noel Redding and Kim Appleby...this is a truth

  • Thanx for this gacelaxd!

9/8/68: Coliseum, Spokane, Washington. SET LIST: Foxy Lady, Little Wing, Red House, Fire. Jimi is interviewed by John Bates for the Spokane Daily Chronicle.

  • Great version indeed! :-)
