Sorry one more question. Your sight glass on your HLT looks like its a littler higher than mine and mine doesn't register until you have 4 gallons in it. Just wondering how much liquid it takes until you start to see it in your sight glasses. Thanks again!
@wml4928790 Mine starts to register at 4 gallons as well. I mainly use the gallon indicators all the way up the sight glass and subtract the amount of gallons as I drain for the mash.. usually 4-6. Once mashed in, I slowly add more water to the HLT while keeping it between 165 - 180 degrees. Then I continuous sparge until I have desired volume in BK.
@reign424 Yep I do the exact same. When I was building my system I was rushing it and didn't think about positioning so holes for the sight glasses, which are also for my drain valves and thermoprobe are a little higher than I would have liked them to be. Thanks for the reply!
How many gallons of strike water did you heat up? and long did it take to reach the 71 degrees? My system is just like yours, same burners and everything. Just seems like it takes longer that what I think it should to heat water. Just curious how long yours takes. Thanks!
@reign424 As for the HLT, I brewed a batch yesterday and before I did I raised my burners about 5/8" up higher and it made a world of difference on how long it takes to heat strike water. I'm getting about you are now. Before it would take forever then then again I could feel so much heat being lost in the back side of my brew stand. @wml4928790 I usually heat up around 10 gallons to 170. It takes about 30 minutes to an hour depending on how high the burner is set.
