I know, jetfueller, nothing excused what was done to our people in the name of the Christian God! I'm not a Christian, I do not want to offend anyone, but all that is holy and right is NOT Christian. Horrible atrocities have been done in the name of that religion! I think of the Indian Mission Schools for example and my soul cringes in disgust at what those children suffered! I love this song. I have a lot of native American blood in me and I must say, music like this helps me feel closer to the relatives and ancestors that aren't here anymore. I only wish I was closer with my Native American side.

This felt very sold out to me. Native American music can be beautiful, but there's no reason to put chants in front of 80's music. It sounds cheap and dressed up, like the way they used to be portrayed in movie and other media.

I know, jetfueller, nothing excused what was done to our people in the name of the Christian God! I'm not a Christian, I do not want to offend anyone, but all that is holy and right is NOT Christian. Horrible atrocities have been done in the name of that religion! I think of the Indian Mission Schools for example and my soul cringes in disgust at what those children suffered! But when I say all cultures are beautiful, I'm going back to their beginnings, their roots, when they were innocent.

The government policy of assimilation or anniliation which included, of course, the missionary schools separating children at a tender age from their families -destroying their knowledge of who they were and how to be in the world in a right way... those are things that nearly destroyed the Indian Traditional Culture. And sadly those who passed for white in order to survive had to hide and forget their ancestry. And so their children wander in a world that they do not fit - and don't know why.

I was raised a Christian and do not believe the men who commited these terrible acts on the native people were Christian in any form as Christ teaches love above all. I found out a few months ago my great,great grandfather was Brule. I have allways sympathised with the native people without knowing about him and I now believe his spirit is stirring in me. I only have a trace of native blood in me but I am proud it is there.

yes, I did not learn about my ancestry until old ones were on or near their death beds. They feel the need to tell you what they were hiding! And suddenly you know why your mind works so differently from the people around you. I just hardly fit in. what I learned was that I have Native Blood from 3... not one of my grandparents! What a revelation! I had always been drawn to and interested in the Traditional ways of Native Peoples.. With that news I knew why... it was like coming home!

Any religion is always manipulated by men for power and from the beginning, even in Europe they caused much problem. They killed medicine women and called them witches. When the protestant separated themselves from the Catholic church they were killed and persecuted also. Reason some came here. Read Ed McGaa 's book and Vine Deloria Jr, you learn a lot.
Unfortunately people at that time really had no freedom to speak up and fight back legally as we do now. Natives were beautiful people.

Organized religion? The minute man started organizing religion the spirituality began dying out of it! Atrocities have been done to people all over the world in the name of organized religion! I have spent all my life learning about the spirituality of my people usually alone, but sometimes with others. I don't feel sorry for myself. I know who I am and how to be in the world. and my uncle Peter we always thought he looked native Indian. I guess the blood really came through in them. But I always knew something was different in me as well, now I'm happy I know what it was.

@jetfueller yeah, my grandmother used to always say "the blood will tell"... and it was at odd times... it wasn't until she was old and would talk about it that we learned she was pretty much all Indian... Cherokee and Choctaw... a beautiful person. My Grandfather on the other side who died long before I was born was Indian as well.... tall and handsome man... his wife half Indian... when you know who you are.. it makes all the diffrence... it's like coming home.
