  • So nice !

  • the last part sounded like.......hog bitch stomp by buckethead

  • His newer stuff is better... Still awesome though.

  • Sorry, dude.. not better than Cliff Burton!

  • @MrBasskriss Cliff rules but this is not the same style

  • If it's not the greatest solo ever, it's likely in the top two.

  • Wow....@ about 1:51 it suddenly turned into a song to a nintendo video game.

  • Dad -3

  • this is like yngwie malsteen but in bass version hahahaha

  • Thumb Fom Hell!!!!!!!!

  • frodo after getting dat ring destroyed... finally

  • hes no Victor Wooten

  • @CalamityChildren Yeah, no kidding, he was doing contrapuntal tapping before Wooten was , Stu(if you noticed) on Moonlight Sonata, he is performing the bass, chords, and melody at the same time,as same as piano.

  • HADOKEN

  • well hes deffinetly better than my grandma

  • he looks like a hobbit!

  • Moonlight sonata by bethoven, A piano melody played on a bass, He must be God!

  • favorited after 5,5 seconds

  • Man... The first time I saw this video was 1992 when I could only play regular bassline. This blew me away!!! Thanks for uploading so I do not need to dig the cassette out. LOL

  • STUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • DUDE! this is moonlight sonata by bethoven<3!

  • @brontosaurious OMG REALLY!!? HOW CAN IT BE...HE IS DECEASED!!!

  • @Combinatronic stu is dead? seriously?

  • @TheVoodoobassist lol nah at least i dont think so..but then again he has been playing this "bass solo" since before i was born...id still rather listen to live versions of portrait of tracy instead..

  • 0:32 Słychać strzały.

  • Fkin beautiful !

  • billy sheehan.

  • @shyguycjo When Satriani and Stu first played live in North Hollywood, right as Surfing with Alien was coming out, Sheehan was in the audience at the club, along with Vai,George Lynch,Vivian Campbell and Steve Lynch. Stu knows music, and theory, whereas Billy actually just knows patterns. I'll take Stu.

  • For those of you who don't know, this is "Night On Bald Mountain" by Bach.

  • @bambam111992 umm ... no. "Night on Bald Mountain" is by Modest Mussorgsky.

  • @propyro85 *facepalm* You don't say!

Learn to recognize a joke when you see one, dipshit.

Now, if you'll excuse me, Jeff Gordon just scored a touchdown, and I wanna get back to watching the game before the end of the inning.

  • Fuckin' Amazing !!!!!!!!!!O_o

  • If an alien ever crash lands on our terrible ploabnet and asks "why is your planet in this state of hatred and idiocy?" My reply will be "just read the youtube comments of any video, yeah, thats society. Take me with you"

  • Love it

  • john entwhistle was better but still a good bass solo............

  • Fett!^^

  • what is the stuff from 0:50

  • @casperado666 flow my tears the policeman said. should be able to find just that on youtube.

  • @kentparkhurst ahhh i knew that i heard that one. thanks dude.

  • @casperado666 Flow My Tears, from his first album, then switches to other parts of tunes from his album.

  • Greatest bass solo ever, i doubt it. However, that was still a pretty bad ass solo. I did think it was kind of weird how he broke into what sounded like a polka at 1:52 though.

  • @propyro85 I believe it's "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" an old standard Blue Grass banjo tune. Impressive to see someone "pic" the bass.

  • @propyro85 , it's all a compilation of tunes he has done. Most of which were on his first album, Radio Free Albemuth. The polka is a tune called Country Music(a night in hell).

  • 156 people don't have ears...

  • Amazing work, Mr. Hamm.

  • i think the second verse kills this video.

  • good

  • haha this bass lines in a atmosphere song

  • yes, intro is moonlight sonata

  • I like this. The 8 finger tapping is great. The part at 1:50ish is awesome too.

  • Good stuff but hardly the best bass solo ever is it?

Can this dude play fretless? I doubt it. Perhaps you should all try to listen to Percy Jones or Jaco. Plenty of stuff available to view from these boys on You-Tube.

Real bass artistry is being able to navigate a fretless finger board at high speed when you have no marker points for the notes. Do you understand this?

Stuart Hamm can't do this can he?

  • @fretlessfan Playing fretless bass and playing fretted bass is not the same thing. And "real bass artistry"? That's just bullshit. Of course, I appreciate complex fretless playing, I even removed my frets from my bass because I wanted a fretless bass... But there is no definition for what real bass artistry is or isn't.

"Real bass artistry is 8 finger tapping. Jaco couldn't do this, could he?"

    See my point?

  • @fretlessfan Real bass artistry is backing someone up and not getting in the way. Knowing what to play and when to play it; fretless or fretted. And I bet Stu Hamm could do whatever he needed to...here is a Jaco quote for ya to ponder:

"I'm not a star. I'll never be a Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley or a Ray Charles. I'm just an imitator, man... the cats, man. I'm just backing up the cats." - Jaco Pastorius

  • @fretlessfan , yeah you're right, if you cant play fretless you might as well kill yourself. How about taking a piece of piano music and learning to play it on a bass, fretted or fretless. The guy can play your backbeat ,thats why he played with Joe so many times, but he helped trailblaze the use of contapuntal tapping, of which so many now use.He can slap like nobody's business. One of Stu's favorite solos is by Jaco. Get over your fretless already.

  • I still think Victor Wooten blows this guy out of the water but that's my opinion.

  • not "greatest" but good

  • And Moonlight Sonata is beautiful but why would one want to brutalize it with harsh-sounding bass when it's preceded by centuries of countless and way more beautiful performances?Because you can? Well that's a poor reason in my opinion.

  • Well, you know. I actually practiced this and was able to play most of this. This was some time ago. Now I realize that this sounds awful. It's played well technically and it's a good show, but to my taste, that's about it. When I think of music, this is certainly not what comes to mind and it doesn't even get better by listening to it more. Maybe I'm getting old. I appreciate the effort and skills he has, but well.

  • Dayum!

  • Wow, damn, is that Foggy Mountain Breakdown at the end? :D

  • @LibertyCityMayhem95 tour right iv only done 8 years at a musical school learning guitar, violin, 12string guitar, bass, double bass and viola, studied countless artists from past and present. i have no idea what im talking about lol. btw........ its a common musician joke simmer downs buds haha >.> ur such an uptight wanker. its not my fault bass is soo easy to play.

  • Thank you Paul McCartney and John Entwistle!

  • @leathalEly What do you call a dumb fuck with no knowledge of musicians and their respective importance?.....leathalEly

  • Really nice, but it's not the best I'm sorry to say. Still, nice! :D Love the feel

  • @TheEPIChino No.............................

  • @TheEPIChino Definitely is.

  • @TheEPIChino No that's because by the beatles

  • @TheEPIChino yes it is =O

  • @OptimisticNihilistic Dont forget that a upright bass is also cool enough. I play both double bass and electric bass. But true they were genius and we will never forget them...

  • @MsFrearky Oh yeah, uprights are fucking badass as fucking fuck. Mostly cos you can spin them. Plus they look ridiculously fun to play.

  • eurasian leprosy bear says very good

  • 80's bass face

  • folks wha you dont realize is this was done nearly 25yrs ago. This was a couple of yrs after jaco died. Stu was maybe 25 or so. He was playing one of the most unique custom basses known. Stu was a pioneer in bass tapping. learn ur history before you talk sh** about stuff .you cant even begin begin to be this creative

  • @dumyes < I cant thumb you up enough. I met him in 87 and was lucky enough to get some lessons. This was right before Satch got him for the tour of Surfing with the Alien. He was living in a terrible apartment in a terrible neighborhood, and then BAM. Alien took off. I'm still mediocre at best but he still changed my life, and these trolls don't even realize he was playing this stuff before anybody else was. Wooten who? Hamms the man.

  • :/ wtf, moonlight sonata followed by a non creative tapping and a country slap with not groove at all????... That's all I have to say here

  • sounds like the unforgiven 3 by metallica at the start

  • This is good, but I think that Jaco is much better.

  • There is groove from 1;55 :)

  • stuart hamm is a fantastic cold bass player, there is no soul in is notes.

for exemple listen to Michel Alibo from sixun. this man feel the music.

Marcus Miller love this man and i know why.

  • We had a bass player-name was Ott

He used to over-play his bass a lot

We had to kick him in the pants

His fingers moved like Vitas' dance

He couldn't play tasty.....tasty...tasty like this man, yeah.

  • braindrill hahahahahaha

  • OMG...In witch band is this man playing. This shit is AWESOME

  • holy moly WHOA!

  • my bass god o-o

  • :O PAUSE ! I am not worthy for this -___-

  • My Hats off to you! Freakin amazing!

  • He has to be at least half black

  • @campbellparker Black people ain't born talented... After they got freed by the Americans they went to use drugs and rioting all over the places that something must be done to stop them. So somehow they made the styles like the hip-hop ... to stop the rioting and the shit they did...

  • this is hilarious...isn't it?....or is it just me? He's so talented it's hilarious! you could say he's say, the mister universe of bass players..he he
