  • i like your 84 idi. i think it sounds great and the inside actually looked really good. way to keep that baby lookin good for its years. good truck and the powerstroke was nice too i would deffinatly drive one but love the early 80s Fseries trucks

  • Like the Powerstroke better than the IDI, But are the P stroke the best diesel Light duty truck engine Id beg to differ. Cummin's the way to go.. But I like powerstrokes to, Also I like ford better than dodge.

  • light duty? these are heavy duty

  • I'm an IDI man, myself. That 84 must have had the gauge cluster replaced because in 84, they didn't have tachs. It's a really nice truck with the banks, the lift, and I don't see any rust. The best thing about them is there are no ICP sensors, etc to worry about. Straight pipe the IDI and you will hear a world of difference. I have a few videos of mine with a straight pipe but I don't have a turbo yet. Still waiting to install my ATS 088.

  • love the 84 body style, its the best

  • both

  • IDI

  • LOL the dash is rhino lined

  • the 84 looks a hell of a lot meaner.

  • inside looks carzy in the 97 but it looks cool

  • I love both them trucks. Take the motor out of the 84 and put it in the 97.

Sounds crazy but it would be awesome to have an idi with a short bed and crew cab.

  • IDI all the way. Mechanical simplicity without all those silly electronics to worry about. Granted, that does mean less power.... but it'll still get the job done, and if it does decide to break, it's a helluva lot easier to work on. Both are great trucks though!

  • ...IDI sounds better, the 6.9 non turbo sounds like Satan talking with the right exhaust setup.

  • i want your 97.

  • What's on the interior of the 97

  • @sexy97stroke He bedlined the inside components.

  • whats all the black stuff on the inside of the 97?

  • the p stroke starts like shit

  • @96318dakotaify was a bad icp sensor

  • Great trucks! I would keep these forever!

  • Hands down I like the sound of the idi better but on a user basis I would rather have the powerstroke.

  • I think the IDI sounds better...Both trucks are awesome though!

  • @MercuryMorrison1 I do too... I wish those things had more power though...

  • @fordxtreme2 I want your IDI, how much?

  • @fordxtreme2 i wish they all came with turbos, but the idi's last longer ( i think) but ford always ownes trucks specially diesels.

  • idi

  • NIce teeruks I like the 97 better.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn both of those trucks are really clean.

  • i like the older truck more. turned on way easier lol

  • huu cool i realy dont know much about disel im more of a gasser my sellf but i like lots of power so cool =3-

  • the idid must have slitly lower comperiton (lower pitch) but it seems like the idi started easer =3-

  • @xoxoXoieoxox

the IDI has a much higher compression ratio than the powerstroke if thats what your talking about. The injection timing on the idi is much retarded than on the powerstroke. Powerstroke had a failing ICP sensor causing those hard starts.

  • im gonna say the 97 its got the aggresive growl to her

  • Both awesome trucks have to go with the idi tho. By the way, does anyone know how difficult/expensive it would be to throw a turbo on a 1990 idi?

  • Both diesels are great but IDI for me. I got a 1991 Ford Econoline Cargo Van video posted also with the 7.3 IDI and E4OD.

  • i like idi better than i do these new diesels

  • i like both but i'd definetly pick the IDI

  • I like em both, thats why I own both lol

  • Could you tell me which guage is the egt guage please?

  • did you bedline your dashboard?

  • lol you guys r crazy. LOVE the turbo from a straight piped powerstroke. but will never put down the idi. ive had both, 93 and a 97, both turboed. @FANADICALCOWHEAD which ever you go with, i highly doubt youll be dissapointed

  • 84 is better!

  • I'm buying an 84 6.9 Id take old school anyday I like the IDI in video better

  • Nice trucks, good vid.

  • id take both lol how much for either honestly man im looking for a 6.9 or a 7.3 idi either way

  • I will say my opinion, but I am biased, I love the sound of the old IDI, I own an 89 F350, and it's the best motor I've ever had.

I unfortunately discovered I have a bad IP (Injection pump) and had considered selling it, but we ultimately went to keep it.

I've owned a PSD, and those as well, are GREAT motors, but the IDI just has a bit more grunt, while you can't expect speed outta your IDI, you can pull a house off it's foundation lol.

  • did u linex the interior

  • I love the sound of the old IDI's. Like FANADICALCOWHEAD said, the "big block V8 sound" is great. I might be a little bias though too; I've always loved the SC long-bed '80-86 Fords. :)

  • I like em both I love the sound

  • They are different but I like the sound of both engines quite a lot. (Find me a diesel I don't like the sound of!) One thing for sure though is that when you open up the exhaust in an IDI you can get an extremely badass V8 sound. 88 7.3 IDI/Navistar F250 4x4 and a 93 Dodge Cummins 5.9 12 Valve here. Both very much stock and very clean.

  • Nice trucks how much of a lift does the 1984 Ford F250 have? Thanks Ryan

  • How much of a lift does that 1984 ford f250 have under it. Thanks Ryan

  • @TheRedneck1463 4" lift springs on the front + extra 1-1.5" from the D60. Back has a block :(. The front does ride a bit taller than the back.

  • Ah man tough choice. I would go with the IDI because it sounds a little tougher, and its a five speed haha

  • Nice trucks man

  • The only thing that sounds better than a 94-98 Powerstroke is a big CAT purring. Also the comment that the IDI sounds like a big block V8 makes sense because it IS... but so is the Powerstroke.

  • Personally I think the IDI sounds superior. I grew up around my Dad's 6.2L diesel Silverado and I feel like the IDI has a very similar sound. Plus the IDI has more of the "Big block v8" sound rather than a commercialized rig sound. Both great trucks though. Just out of curiousity what is a better buy? Powerstroke or IDI?

  • @FANADICALCOWHEAD I also enjoy the sound of the IDI diesel. Each has there ups and down when it comes to which is a better buy. The IDI is cheap to work on and fix. Injectors usually are around $180 for all 8 compared to several hundred dollars for the PSD. Injection pumps are fairly inexpensive compared to a HPOP on the PSD. A Turbo'd IDI is similar to power output of a 1st gen PSD. With the PSD you have more capability for power, chips, and upgrades. I love driving the 5spd idi around...

  • the newer truck has a lauder engine but just some info for you and anyone who reads this, the california edition 7.3 powerstroke for the 9th gen trucks had sequential fuel injection which reduced the engines knock. all other trucks that were not intended to be driven in california have that sharp knock because it was still a single shoot event. up untill the later years came along.

  • @slowpoke560 I suppose my powerstroke would have alittle more refined sound if I had some form of exhaust on it. When the stacks come I'll re-shoot for comparison.

  • @fordxtreme2 yeah oh and i just realized i used the wrong choice of words in my first comment, when i said sequential fuel injection i was referring to the split shot. but yeah, you got two awesome trucks haha, i also have an older style like urs, mines 86 and my dad has the california edition newer 7.3 1997 last year for that body style, but i cant wait until mines running, bought it as a project and for now its going to stay the 6.9, now as for a turbo, well i gota see... money gettin low lol

  • nice trcuks man my dads got a 7.3 best diesel ever

  • Damn I like both

  • what are you running for a clutch? ive been trying to find an aftermarket one for a 6.9 bt cant seem to find any, cause i really want to go Banks or Hypermax turbo Im really leaning more towards getting a 6.9 since their alot more of them in my area than 7.3 idi's

  • are you the guy i tried to trade my 97 f350 psd for the 84? off of powerstroke nation??

  • IDI all day, may not have the same power in stock form but they run forever!

  • @85raminator

with the banks turbo and the fuel turned up.. the 84 feels like it has alot more guts than my stock PSD...

  • dang, the 84 is in pretty much fantastic condition.

  • i noticed the older IDI started quiker than the newer POWERSTROKE

  • @sexyman1130 It does. Theres some problem with the powerstroke at this moment. I haven't had the time to diag it. I've had some problems with it shutting off when its cold, n once when I was driving. Kinda makes me believe CPS.

  • @fordxtreme2 i also like the IDI better cause it has a manual tranny

  • @sexyman1130 theres no problem with the turbo diesel as fordxtreme2 says, its because the older trucks had no turbo, so the compression ratio was higher, so it starts right up. the new trucks with the turbos have lower compression ratio (once turbo spooled up then it adds up to the higher compression) and for a diesel to run you have to have high compression. so when you crank over the turbo diesel, that turbo isnt putting any boost into the engine so its a longer start to build up the heat.

  • i guess i'd have to go with the the powerstroke sound, i like the IDI truck more though. Both great machines you got there!

  • Comment removed

  • Both sound great, But the IDI is the winner to me. However I love the Rhino Lined Dash in the 1997

  • the powerstroke is definitely better

  • They both sound great to me ,the idi sounds the best
