  • how often do u change the filter? every second or third oil change?

  • @fivealive2 you should do it every single oil change

  • Two comments.

A car on blocks.....you can just YouTube the accidents lol.

    And two

I've accidentally dropped the plug before and had to get it. Not too fun

  • NEVER PUT A CAR ON BLOCKS!

  • I just wanted to learn how to do it. after sifting thru all the pur-O-lator bs stupidity i found this...good job bro, detailed and nice with the detes such as filling the oil filter and seeing that your going to have a lot of oil come out when you change the filter. im ready to rock.

that purolator crap and everything else on here is getting really old really quick. you can be whore and still have class. youtube dont become a useless whore or your custs (me) will leave and then yo pimps (ads)

  • It would be less messy if he let the oil drain first, then change the filter

  • Hey man, my boss has the same friggin truck as you - just a diferent engine i beleive. looks tits though.

  • dont forget a new drain plug gasket and to lube the oil filter rubber seal before you put it back on. Oh and get a decent truck. it's 2011 god damn it! :)

  • I am new to this, and trying to change my mom's oil does any motor oil work for any car?

    PS

My mom's car is a 2006 Toyota Highlander and I'm trying to put some kind of mobile1 extended performance in.

  • @MrMADAXEMAN13 NOOOO!

  • i didnt put oil in the filter is that a problem?

  • @yankees101979

its not a problem at all, some people forget all the time. Just remember to fill it up half way before installing, its just a good habit.

  • @bonecracker1123 Thank you!

  • *gasp!!* A fram oil filter? get that out of your truck now!!! jk. although i agree there are much better filters around the same price as fram the fact is that millions of cars have fram oil filters on them right now and nobodys engine has exploded yet. People need to settle down with the "Fram will ruin your engine instantly" crap. damn.

  • when you take the old filter off if oil gets onto the car parts is that bad, do you have to wipe it all off or does it not matter?

  • @TheBro95 if its ur exhaust its your choice but things may get smoky when ur exhaust heats up but just wipe it off otherwise its no big deal really as long as it isnt in your coolant or such

  • go with mobil 1 oil and filters....or K&N oil filters.

  • dont you have to put the oil plug back on

  • @TraumaER

hey Trauma. I totally understand where your coming from however there is absolutely no way your going to get crushed if you have your car on 12000 pound ramps with jack stands underneath for extra protection. It's literally impossible.

  • I had a old truck like that 20yrs ago in high school, 72 Cheyenne! They were awesome with all kinds of room to work, unlike the packed in crap we see now days! mine had the big block and it scooted, loved that truck! I'm in WI so the truck was bumper to bumper rust! Mistake, I ended up selling it in 93 and the guy that bought did a total restore and still has it... I see it at local car shows, looks spotless!

  • fram uses Cardboard end-caps. Pure crap!!!!

  • @schoolboy171 i just changed my rotors and pads last month moron myself; go get a life fatty

  • @TraumaER wow rotors and pads looks like you deserve a sticker.....oh and i do have a life...any idot can slap pads on a brake or remove and replace rotors..i know because i went to school for this and that was the first thing my teacher told the class when we studying brakes.i bet if gave you a drum brake and told you change the springs and the brake shoes you would know were to start or even how to take it apart the springs are very tight..or if i told you to bench bleed a master cylinder lol

  • holy crap! an expert village video that's actually useful and not in multiple parts...

  • this is why i'd rather pay a place like jiffy lube (even though they suck and are shady as hell themselves);

oil on clothes = destroyed clothes

oil changes at Jiffy Lube = $35

oil getting on my face while removing drain plug = priceless

  • @TraumaER

Hey Trauma. this is why I like to do it at home. 22.95 for a 5 Quart bottle of Pennzoil Ultra Synthetic. 6.95 for a Purolator Pure one Oil Filter. Takes me 30 Minutes. Drive on Ramps. No oil on clothes no oil on anything. 35 Dollars missing the donkey at Jiffy lube putting in dino oil and a ultra cheap oil filter and half the time botching the job. Also missing the oh hey sir you need a new this and that. Priceless!!!!

  • @sw9301 i get what you are saying but i just don't trust ramps, jacks, or stands; when i change my brakes i use both a pro series pro jack, the default car jack in the trunk, and 2 jack stands lol; i'm just not into getting crushed by 2 tons of car lol

  • Don't you need a special tool to remove the oil filter?

  • @texasfight35 nope you can use your hands an oil filter wrench only comes in handy if its on too tight

  • This seems like a lot of work just to change oil. I don't get why some people want to do this themselves, like your proving you're more man just b/c you change your own car oil. It seems more expensive and time conusming doing this yourself. I'd rather get a pro mechanic to do it, it will only cost around $20-25 anyways. And they won't have to put some damn blocks underneath my car just to get under it.

  • @gothatway09 some people just enjoy doing certain things, like taking things apart and rebuilding them. it's why mechanics who love what they do, are the best mechanics a person can get to work on their car.

  • @gothatway09 $20-$25 doesn't seem like a lot, but it adds up. Changing your oil doesn't have to prove you to be any more of a man, it's just good to know how to do things in your everyday life, cheaper and more efficient.

  • @bigzbert i value my time AND life more; there are cases where the car as fallen on someone's face while changing oil; is it worth it to save $20 to do it yourself and die?

  • @TraumaER jeez sorry. all i meant was that it's a good idea to do it yourself if you want to be cost effective. Yes, I know the risk of getting injured or killed, but if you're smart about it and put up multiple jacks, then you can reduce the odds of the car collapsing over you. sorry if you rather not do it yourself

  • @bigzbert apology accepted

  • @bigzbert I completely agree. I just moved to Chicago and it's really expensive here to have it done by Jiffy Lube or Midas. After watching this tutoral, I plan to just do it myself a ton cheaper.

  • @REMCUREBOY Yeah...Plus, its fun to work on cars!

  • @gothatway09 . if this seems like a lot of work, i fail to see how you function in society. it literally takes 20 minutes to do, if that.

  • @gothatway09 wow you sound dumb...... my 10 year old brother can do an oil job you don't need a pro mechanic to do that idiot......when you take your car to jiffy lube its gonna be a bunch of 16 17 year olds changing it anyway..and its not time consuming it takes less than 30 mins if its your first time maybe 40 mins. and its much cheaper to do it your self oil places charge 50 and up..and its called a jack stand not blocks...your prob still breast fed anyway so you wouldn't know

  • wow, this is by far the best expervillage video I have seen and one of the best oil change tutorials.

  • You dont need to prime it, that few seconds it wont have pressure will not hurt your motor, and you cant turn the filter tight enough by hand to damage your threads

  • why do you have to write that information at the end? and what do you do with the old oil

  • @ShootAllQueers its just to keep an update to know when you last changed your oil. some cars you change the oil every 3 months or every 3000 miles. if you write it down, you can know when to change your oil again. And the old oil u put it in a container and take it to Auto Zone or any place that recycles it.

  • How long should I wait before I change my oil after I have driven it? Wont I burn myself...

  • 0:01 skip add?

  • is it really necessary to replace the oil filter for every oil change???

  • @alex7125 still great video tho!! thanx for your help!!!

  • Please stop using FRAM oil filters!!!

  • @sw9301 Why?

  • Hi Jdub. They are really crappy especially considering you can get an excellent oil filter like a purolator pure one for the same price. You can go to endless sites and read the reviews on Fram oil filters. They use extremely cheap materials inside the filter. I've actually opened one up and the paper filter was unattached from the crappy cardboard end cap. Just a little FYI. there is a guy on Youtube who has some pretty funny reviews on Fram. It's known as the orange can of death.

  • @sw9301 never knew that. thanks.

  • @sw9301 an oil filter is an oil filter, they all do the same job, and you would never be able to tell the difference between i high and low end filter performance wise, i guarantee it

  • @MrGwerner open them up and tell me what you see. I fully disagree.

  • @sw9301 all of them will get clogged with time, and they all have a bi-pass valve in the bottom, when they are plugged it opens the bi-pass valve which none of gets filtered, i am a mechanic i see so many filters from day to day and they all work fine, maybe a high end in a fancy sports car, but it dont make a lick of difference on your everyday pick up/car

  • @sw9301, Y

  • @sw9301 haha i use purolator

  • @sw9301 K&N are best

  • @sw9301 why?

  • @sw9301 I've been using them for years, and my dad uses the proformance ones for his Sunday track car and we have never had any problems with them, what problems have you had with them to boycott this company?

  • @sw9301 I'm sorry but why? Are they crappy and unsafe? I'm just wonder so I don't buy them.

  • @sw9301 Why?.

  • Great Video please dont use another FRAM!!!!

  • Is the oil filter located underneath the car or is it located under the hood?

  • @carven2004eca The oil filter is fairly easy to find, it usualy has a colored label on it, and is near the oil pan, which is on the bottom side of the engine.

  • great vid man

  • Why the hell is he using FRAM oil filters, its as good as hitting the engine several times with a sledge hammer, other than that, great video.

  • great vid, exactly what i needed to know with no waffle!

  • he said "new filter." do you always need a new filter to change oil?

  • @locd2death its better to have a new filter when u change out your oil. think of it as a coffee maker, if you dont change the filter out but u empty the grinds and stuff out and keep reusing it it will eventually stop doing its job of filtering out. And may make your coffee bitter or something lol XD, that the best i can come up with. of like a fish tank filter.

  • @locd2death its best to get a new filter. oil filters run low there cheep and would cost around 3$ and up mine only cost me 3 bucks and like 8 for oil cost me like 20$ bucks because i didnt have to take it in to a shop it would cost me more so think on getting a new filter because u dont want to mess up your car then u would have to take it in and just htink how much u would of saved if u just got that new filter.

  • @smdthisdef thanks for the explanation!

  • This one is actually on topic. Its only 3 minutes long but covers everything you need. The other expert village videos on oil changes is a 24 part series.

  • Why can't I just pour oil on top where the oil is?

  • @jhtrico1850 the idea is to replace the old engine oil with new and so the draining is required first.

  • If u didn't know this like many ppl...FRAM makes a horrible oil filter. Since they've been a Honeywell owned company they have use card board end caps (top & bottom) & very little filter pleats in between & they are sealed poorly. Check out a guys video on you tube.( Are Fram Oil Filters The Best ? ) user name is fredjones1531.

Wix, Napa Gold(made by wix),Purolator,K&N,Motorcraft etc are all good. For about the same price as a FRAM..since 2006 i havent used Fram Never Will

  • I would really strongly recommend that you do NOT use a socket wrench to loosen or tighten your oil drain plug. instead, use the appropriate-size closed-end wrench.

trust me on this. use a closed end-wrench.... believe you me.

  • good video, but the guy could've done some cleaning up in the process. geeez

  • @worldofwheelsdm Shut up.

  • Really helpful video,man!

I`m allmost finishing driving school,I needed to learn a lot of theory, and whenever I heard about changing oil,I had no clue where the oil filter is or how it looks like. I have a couple of questions,if you dont mind. Are there any more things that need changing/maintaining,in a car, besides just fillin` the tank up? And do motorcycles also need oil changes?

    Thanks ,and greetings from Romania.

  • very helpful. thank you (:

  • Upon changing your oil, don't confuse yourself as a mechanic. You're changing oil, not boring engine size with new pistons. If you're proud you can change your own oil, you're a fag.

  • Thanks man now I shall change my mommy's oil filter lol :p

  • @StevieBrian wtf? put oil in the filter? never heard of that

  • @moneybelt22 old trick, not a lot though, just some to get it started, less air that way.

  • do you need to change the filter when changing oil?

  • gud job man.... easy step easy understanding....

  • should u let the car run first for about a min soo the oil empties better

  • @sejor23 no u will bust it

  • Very good video I really liked it. I do have a question that I would appreciate if multiple people could answer. I have a 2001 mazda tribute and I am going to change both the oil and filter. In the manual it says it holds 5.5 quarts, but would that amount be different (higher or lower) because I am also changing the filter? When I took my car to the mechanic I believe he charged me for 6 quarts, but I am not sure if that is because he had to open the 6th bottle so he charged me for it.

  • @robison87 i would say go with 5.5 then check your dipstick

  • Dude, please don't use a FRAM on your car. That's just wrong. :(

  • Now this video is easy to understand unlike others which make it so difficult to understand

  • I learned something..! great vid, !

  • this guy did a good job with the vid but the 1 thing that i have always done is when you go 2 put the filter back on use a little new oil and put a little bit on the rubber gasket on the filter this helps it make a better seal also take off the oil cap before you drain the oil. it lets air in and flushes most of the old oil out. it also helps if you let the car idle for about 5 to 10 mins before draining it. it makes it alot easier for all the oil to flow out. and u dont need 2flush it

  • yea can add really any type of oil u want to use to whats in your car. obviously dont add diesel oil to a gas engine. i always use valvoline in my vehicles just cause i like valvoline. but you can add any brand of oil to whats in there now. but i would not add it to the fuel tank. all you do is burn the oil up when u run the car. its just a waste and its not good to be burnin oil in the engine. if u wanna do tht there is stuff auto zone has tht u can put in the oil and fuel to clean the engine

  • Comment removed

  • yes of course

  • yeah you have the right idea to drive the vehicle and let the oil get scalding hot maybe 10 miles and back give it time to get good and hot then drop it and you will get pretty dam close to all of it out then pour some cheap oil through once it quits dripping to get all the old out

  • i am not nagging in any way great job mate you know what your doing just use good oil and filter if you want to use a different kind of oil and filter im just lending advice not demanding please dont take it the wrong way i have a trick u may try to stab a phillips screwdriver in the bottom of the filter and let it drain and u dont get oil on you i always do that and when u take the filter off you dont get an oil bath or oil all down your arm hope this helps great video A++++++

  • at 3,000 miles the oil that comes out of my engine looks dam close to what i put in because i use a good filter and good oil your oil should never ever look coal black like that thats over the limit way past time for an oil change what im saying is what u take oput should look like what you put in just like a cold pancake syrup color dirty looking but not black what i do is buy a quart or 2 of cheap oil and pour through to wrench the old out thats the safe way to flush i use castrol gtx 10w30

  • ditch the fram mate and go with wix k&n and so forth fram is the sorriest filter ever made i hate fram filters i wouldnt put one of those on an enemies lawnmower to get them back i normally use wix k&n bosch or any other good filter he has a 350 or a 305 in that truck so its more than liekly a wix 51060 350 and 305 interchange oil filters wix and bosch are only 3 doolars more but its worth it for the protectionof an engine u buy cheap filter u get cheap protection his oil was black

  • nice, but should you take off oil cap and dipstick before you drain the oil? or it doesnt matter?

  • Nice way to show a quick oil change.

  • he's a lefty :O

  • good video but two things, if you use a good oil you do not need to worry about a dry start. do not use that cheap chevron shit. second, when your oil filter is loosened enough to drain, you DO NOT keep your hand on it. just let it drain then remove it.

  • at least this is more informative than the other guy whos a "proffesional"

  • i heard its best to let the car run for like 15 minutes so the oil can be warm.

  • u forgot one thing...heat up the engine so the oil flows smoother..

  • perfect video! tynx man

  • Very good job/video!!!

  • thank you so match

  • .thank you

  • nothin fancy very quik and simple... thnx

  • Nice Job, best video and well explained on this topic,

simply taking my hat off to you sir...thank you

  • orgasm

  • i agree this is one of the most detailed video on this topic. Very good job!!!!

  • this one of the better videos on oil change good job....

  • this is actyally one of the best videos on this topic i've seen. most people just start talking and talking but this guy went right to the point.

  • @ivanlunaelizarraras

    amen to that brother.

  • Nice truck, thanks for the tips

  • Oil that stays left over in the valves should lube the engine at start up, not oil left in the filter.

  • You dont have to put oil into the filter before you put it on : p

  • No, but it's a good practice to do. I always do it.

  • we also do not do that,we fix fillter with out put oil,why does he do that?

  • im wondering the same thing
