Actually she says she wrote a song about a friend of her called Mary. At the beginning, it was just a little song 'cause she missed her when she went to India. But she says that if the song was true, she would be a bitch...So she's proud to say it's not true.

I find it incredible how meaningful this song is for so many and, well before they even knew what it was really about or the exact lyrics.

For me, Danny is Daddy and he is old and lonely now, Mary is just gone. Now I have to be careful when I hear this song because it makes me tear up every time.

I always loved this song and I always wondered who this Danny was and what happened to him and Mary. But I had to read on wikipedia that Dido wrote Mary's in India for an old school friend called Mary who moved to India. It was only meant as a joke.
