You didn't point out that when for instance shooting through a window and wanting to focus at Infinity, you can't necessarily just "slam" the MF all the way up. Focus will go PAST infinity and focus close up! One must go up to Infinity on the Manual Focus scale and then back off slightly to achieve far distant focus. Not that convenient! Apparently this is necessary in order to "leave" infinity focus room depending on the focal length.
