Plz- 75% of free blacks in the USA at that time LIVED in the south- NOT THE NORTH. common day misconception the union loved blacks before the civil war, They didnt. They were just as notorious for being racists and assholes to blacks as southerners did. It was not uncommon for blacks to serve in the confederate army with equal pay as infantry [though listed as drummer boys and not soldiers] while union blacks had to deal with less pay.
Result:Both sides were immoral, but NOT more than the other
The Union needed cavalry, so they recruited backwoodsmen who already knew how to ride and shoot. But these men came from a culture that placed no value in a man's life. They had no problem with rape, murder and plunder.
This is a little unfair to Montgomery- he carried out these reprisals, yes, but he was an avid abolitionist who freed hundreds of slaves on an expedition shortly before this.
The Yankees should have mineded their own Buss. The North got mad over the southerns profits! And that woman shouldnt of gotten her throat sliced! That soldier shouldnt of put her hands on her and killed her daughter!
166,000 African-Americans served the Union in all branches during the Civil War. Two of the most prominent African regiment commanding officers were Col. Thomas Wentworth Higginson (1st SC Volunteers) and Col. Robert Gould Shaw (54th Mass), both Unitarians.
How can he be ordered to do anything by that southern jack ass, are they not of the same rank, ya he is bregaid Comander but still... HE IS THE SAME RANK
as you say yourself, the other one is brigade commander. I'm a a soldier myself and it often occurs that a soldier is givin a functional superiority above soldiers of the same rank. For example: Company X is going to attack and it has 2 captains among it's number. It is most likely that one of them will be assigned company commander and will eventually lead the attack . He remains captain but for the time being outranks the other captain.
I'm not going to answer a fool..They came to the north to escape slavery. Yes blacks DID fight on the south on a "free" will. But those blacks wanted to be in slavery, and be ignorant and stubborn! Alot of ppl watching this video would agree with me (typically not u) My history book is correct, maybe ur brain is Propaganda!
@AragonKingofmacedon well there were some free blacks in the south (Few and far between as they may be) and some fought for the south, to keep what land they had
@bandboy11111 According to the 1860 Census report, close to 10,000 free Africans owned around 60,000 slaves themselves. When the war started, many of them offered their services to the Confederacy. Those free Africans wanted to protect their families and lands just as anyone else wanted to. But the Confederacy was stupid by turning them down, the greatest mistake and it would cost them the war in the end. Even if the Confederacy did not want to arm them, they could have worked in the rear.
@cal011316 I thought it was confirmed to be a cubic zirconium bracer? Even so, they didn't have cubic zirconium back then so...the idea is still valid.
@KiNGG2K8 What do you mean? I didn't see them try that at all. He called them children and the white lady called them nigga soldiers. Maybe you forget not all southerners had slaves, it was very few who actually did.

@demeandr121 Funny how Martin Luther King Jr., has a day named after him, is one of America's greatest civil rights fighters. And no southerner has had the same houner as he.
1:00.....mmm, thats strange. that house has no damage. ive studied this war, and the Union dudes plundered and trashed every fancy house they saw! marching away with hams stuck on bayonets! the immigrant dudes free from peasenthood in the old country especially liked plundering these Neo-Noble mansions! it was kind of payback!
This war was disasterous. The British parliament passed a law banning slavery decades before all this. The slave owners were compensated and the matter settled. Here in the states we fight this long bloody conflict to resolve the same thing. The Negros then move into cities that whites created and turn them into unlivable slums. been to Detroit lately? 6:20 truer words never spoken.
@itchychinaman so your implying that we should of stick with slave. O sorry when a Chinese man speak of America history, they should learn to check their own history first or region , now rival Chinese slum are the same if you ask me or any other ghetto in this world, ignorant is blessed indeed.
I love how they included Gullah speakers in this film (like the two guys lining up beside the 54th to greet them). "Dis yeh ebery-deh like Christmas!"
I like Matthew Broderick in this movie. He's a very nice actor and so good-looking. Col. Montgomery is a Jayhawker! I hate Jayhawkers! They were cruel psychopaths from the backwoods of Kentucky and Missouri. Ugh!
Col. Shaw, as far as I know, was not a very popular officer during the War because of the fact that he commanded Coloreds. That's quite unfair. I think he's braver and more kind-hearted than any other officer during the war.
@chesykin97 There was a huge conflict between the Yankees and the Southerners who supported the Union.
The reason the Jayhawkers supported the Union wasn't because they hated slavery or believed in Unity, but because they envied the wealthier Southerners in the "low country". They were valuable to the Union because they could ride and shoot. The thought of raiding Southern plantations must have excited them. They probably welcomed any opportunity to get into fights and steal.
right now we're watching this in history but since this movie is so good I can't wait to watch the rest tomorrow so I will simply watch it now. Morgan freeman is awesome! :D
@methusehlah What you see here is just one of thousands of war crimes committed by Union soldiers. I was surprised when Glory first came out back in 1989 that they would actually show their war crimes.
@Igarody Pretty much, rape, murder and looting. What you see here is only one single thing out of thousands of incidents Union soldiers did in the South. Since the Union won, they got away with it. The Civil War was censored by the US. Government. The Official Records were also censored. For nearly 145 years they have hid the truth.
My associates and I have found many things buried at the National Archives and Library of Congress. I had well over 200 family members fight for the Union.
You're a typical southern red-neck bull-shit artist. You pretend to be angry about something that didn't even happen to you or effect you personally ( oh, and don't tell me war stories about your Confederate great-great grandpappy, okay). Who started the war again? Who fired on federal forts and troops and seized weapons and all that? Who illegally seceded because they didn't like the results of a presidential election? .
@ronnie12398 I don't give a fuck what you think. I can tell you know very little on the Civil War. Your questions are basic, Eleventh grade questions.
Um lets see here, Lincoln wrote a letter to the Governor of South Carolina a month before any firing on the fort. In the letter Lincoln promised to "Pull the soldiers from the fort and the fort will be abandoned." So what does Lincoln do a month later? Changed his mind and went against his own word. Now he wanted to send provisions in the fort.
Since it was a US military fort in the US, why would a US president "promise" some seditious state governor that he would do that? Abraham Lincoln did the right thing and did it right from the beginning of the war until the end of it. You're just an apologist for the Confederacy and would probably like to see it resurrected.
@ronnie12398 Now all Lincoln had to do was remove the troops and put them on the boat that had the provisions on it. But Lincoln wanted to see what South Carolina would do. Lincoln got just what he wanted, the South fired. Lincoln never even went before Congress to ask for permission to go to war. That is illegal and unconstitutional.
Northern newspapers editors criticized Lincoln on that and he had them arrested and thrown in prisons.
@ronnie12398 The very first public statement that Abraham Lincoln made after being inaugurated as the sixteenth president was an ironclad defense of slavery: I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.
@ronnie12398 Lincoln did not "Change his mind". The Southern states did not stick around await for heavy tariffs to be placed on them. Hence why they left the Union.
Lets pretend President Obama says that he will heavy tax certain states and if they do not pay he will sent a army and "Bloodshed" will occur. He would be impeached in a matter of weeks/months by Congress.
Yes, please follow your own words, stop being a jackass and trying to stereotype and judge people's screen names.
@ronnie12398 In the same speech, Lincoln promised a military invasion and bloodshed in any state that refused to collect the federal tariff on imports, which had just been more than doubled two days before his inauguration. [T]here needs to be no bloodshed or violence, and there shall be none unless it be forced upon the national authority, he continued.
@ronnie12398 Thus, mere minutes after taking an oath to protect the constitutional liberties of American citizens, Abraham Lincoln threatened to orchestrate the murder of many of those same citizens.
@rebel2276 Andrew Jackson, a southern slaveholder, threatened to hang South Carolinian John Calhoun and to invade South Carolina when they threatened secession in 1832. Jackson would have taken the same actions as Lincoln if needed.
@dikdix Sorry for the delay, on my response out in South Korea again. Your post is 110% accurate, President Andrew Jackson indeed said that.
But I would be curious what he would have done, if he was the President during the war of 1812. Five New England states (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont) wanted to have a "Separate Peace" with Britain. They sent Representatives to Hartford, Connecticut for a convention of meetings. Many were screaming for secession.
@dikdix The "Hartford Convention" was between December 1814-January 1815. The war ended and thankfully those Five New England states could not sell out to the British.
The point here is, no one questioned them on succeeding from the Union.....
@rebel2276 The Hart. Conv. was more a political gamble by Federalists to discredit Democrats. They were probably a year too late in their efforts. I doubt the states would have seceded. Going back to Jackson, funny that you mention the H.C.. Some of the Hartford issues had to do with the powers of the commander-in-chief. Madison insisted on running the war. One aspect was allowing Jackson to make war as he pleased, which turned out to be a great decision. Let the military fight the wars.
@dikdix I agree with your post, and also if another year of war, they may have left the Union.
Major General Reynolds was asked before Major General Meade to take command of the AOP. Reynold went to Washington City and told Lincoln, he wanted "Full Control". He did not get it and thus command passed to Meade.
I have been in the Army for 26 years and I completely agree, "Let the military fight the wars". Run for President and you have my vote!
@rebel2276 Judging Jackson by his War of 1812 efforts, had he been Pres. during Mr. Madison's War, he probably would have challenged every last one of the New Englanders to a duel. There was no gray area with Jackson. Regardless of one's opinion of Lincoln and his actions against the Confederacy, at least Lincoln was resolute and unwavering on the union issue. Jackson, Lincoln, the current president would do well to grow a pair like those two.
@dikdix LOL, so true with Jackson. It took me around 26 years to finally figure out what was really going on with the war. It had always been in our face, but we rubbed it off as something that sounded, crazy.
Some of my associates found some of Lincoln's letters at the National Archives and emailed me some very interesting emails. I know hold Lincoln in very high esteem. Lincoln once wrote, "The source of the war was not slavery, the source of the war was the Jesuits."
@dikdix Lincoln knew what they were up to and wrote they started the war. They had him assassinated. Booth was just the trigger man. Stanton was behind the assassination along with many higher officials.
Interesting that Secretary of War, Stanton, ripped out Eighteen pages of Booth's diary.
Booth probably wrote down ALL that was involved. To cover it all up, have them all killed.
@dikdix Both Jackson and Lincoln, like most of their contemporaries, were in favor of neutrality. They followed Pres. Washington's advice to stay out of "foreign entanglements".
Also, Jackson and Lincoln were backwoodsmen. Both were self-educated men who became small-time lawyers.
@Rex1987 In the USA, the term "backwoodsman" refers to someone who lives in the forest or in the hills, far from an urban area. It has negative connotations, because it can also mean "uneducated".
Other similar terms include "hillbilly" or "cracker".
Unfortunately, there was a culture of violence among these men. They were known to kill each other over insults, and had feuds that lasted years.
I want to cry, these were men that fought for their cause, and for a true Union. I respect and honor these men, black and white, whom laid down their lives to fight!
@KBSmite2 If that sickens you, if your ever in Columbia, South Carolina go to the State Capital. Ask to see the "Rape Letters", hundreds of white and female slaves wrote of being raped by Union soldiers.
They will make you put on white gloves and you can only use a pencil to record anything. There are hundreds of letters there.
its really sad seeing those children singing. Because they when the war is over and they have become adolescents they will see past the veiled world of a black man in the USA back then. Racism prejudice, they have no idea.
@spartan1010101 Similar backgrounds. But the movie "Deliverance" is set in Georgia and the Jayhawkers were (in this case) from the "Borderlands" on the line between the North and Southern States.
Basically, both the Union and Confederate armies relied on gangs of armed brigands for their cavalry. After the Civil War, these guys would continue to be a problem.
These were citizens, white or black, who fought for the freedom of all men, not just in the USA....Lets give them homage where due....they did what was right...
@FrenchExpat1 Thank you and excellent post. Ed Bearss the top historian on the Civil War, wrote that as far back in 1910 the United States government covered up the role of free Africans that fought and served in the Confederate army.
Many people do not know that free Africans Americans were the backbone for the Confederacy. They had family and houses to protect as well.
You know, the Confederate army tried to get thier slaves out on the battle field before the Union did. There are two reasons why this did not work. The slaves (for some strange reason) did not want to fight for the people who kept them oppressed. And the already brittle economy would weaken even further if hands stopped minding the fields.
Very untrue, many free Africans that owned slaves themselves offered their service to the Confederacy. They were protecting their lands and property just like anyone else, regardless of color.
The 1st and 2nd Louisiana Native Guards were a few of those men.
The 1860 Census report had around 10,000 Freed Africans owning around 60,000 slaves.
The problem was the Confederacy did not want to arm them. It was bad enough that the CSA white soldiers had horrible rifles at the start of the war.
The free blacks that supposedly owned slaves were only slave owners on paper. Often free blacks would go and earn money to buy their friends or family members freedom. When they did so they would be documented in the records as owning slaves. There were very few blacks people who were real slave owners with plantations.
actually it has been proven that cops have assaulted many without probably cause, which is required for a cop to search you. most people don't know that, so when a cop asks to search them, they just let it happen, even though they were not read their rights or given a probably cause. I'm 15 about to be 16 and know this, and yet you don't know this. For shame
The horrific portrayal of Col. James Montgomery is the one error in this movie that I can't overlook. I love this film, but this one was inexcusable. Montgomery was an extreme abolitionist and seems to have believed in black-white equality more than even Shaw did. Montgomery committed what would be considered crimes, but they were not motivated by bigotry against blacks.
"a sincere, if unscrupulous, antislavery zealot." --Albert Castel on Col. Montgomery
i find it strange that col. montgomery was portrayed as a racist when in reality he was the extreme opposite. col mongomery was a very strong supporter in abolishing slavery and hated those who supported and profitted from slavery and it's for tht reason he wanted a black regiment, he wanted slave owners to suffer and who better to make them suffer than the people who they oppressed.
Beaufort aka the Beautiful Fortress where white and blacks can coexist (by the way if you noticed carefully the two guys who drop the american flag over the house is a black guy and a white guy hinting something??)
We white people were really pieces of shit treating fellow human beings lkie slaves and like lower then crap...all the black kid servants running in front of a mansion made me realise how disgusting we have been...im glad times have changed.
You dumbass black race is 18% of the population and 10% of it is working class. 18% would be rounded to 20% which would be 1/5 you idiot. Get a life. BTW this moving is great and has made me realize how good we have it these days.
Your Talking About INTERACIAL crimes not crimes overal. And You got tht information from an USER submitted blog from 2005! Its Talking About Them Being more likely to kiill white people than any other race. Not the percentage you dumbass... Do Your Research Correctly. I used Encyclopedias. NOT just type in "WHAT PERCENTAGE OF CRIME IS BLACK" On google.Thats becuzz White people are afraid that black people are gonna rebel becuase we acctually have balls and will do it ourselves not wait for police
rebel against what? the affirmative action and special treatment that you lazy fucks get? or maybe the freemason jesse jackson that gets all of his criminal ilk out of jail for the fear of being labeled racist. or maybe rebel against all of the free hand outs that the blacks get
yeah you people really have it bad /rollseyes
i love how you say "its interracial crimes" so they dont count lmao
well of course they are interracial, most black criminals rape white woman, its a proven fact
wE get hand outs becuzz we have it harder than whites. When we came to this country we were mostly all slaves. When you people came here you were indentured servants and were promised a future. we werent promised SHIT we barely even got equal rights until the late 80's. You white folks have had it for the longest. Special Treatment? Really? wow. You have no idea how hard it is. The only jobs a typical black man can qualify is for a fast food restaurant or supermarket. . White people have it made
those are the jobs you will qualify for if you quit high school and do not attend college. Black, white, hispanic, asian. That comment itself proves ignorance.
Im not saying they don't count. They still count as crimes but not overall crimes commited by one race retard. We didn't have any rights like i said until the late 80's when you have had it for centuries. we're still getting more and more rights. Its stereotypers like you why america is like this. 1/3 of us r in jail? wow get your facts straight. 1/3 of white people r in jail for melesting and raping. 2/3 of pedifiles are caucasian. DUMBASS
late 80's? i know you blacks dont read, and if you do its some racist garbage by Louis Farrakhan, but segregation ended in 1967, time to get with the times tyrone and stop dwelling on the past, btw the slaves that the jews and rich white settlers had were bought from other africans
i love how blacks always dont know that little tid bit of history, that you monkeys will sell each other out for less than money
Your Dumb but acctually 37460 black women were raped by white men with in 5 months with 20,000 of them also being KILLED. You are so hard headed. White women were raped. Black women were raped MORE and also KILLED with only 575 of the white women being INJURED or killed. 0 black women... REALLY? Dude. Your head is messed up. Back in the 80's and 70's Black Women were raped with the court doing nothing.
Plz- 75% of free blacks in the USA at that time LIVED in the south- NOT THE NORTH. common day misconception the union loved blacks before the civil war, They didnt.
I think he's braver and more kind-hearted than any other officer during the war.
chesykin97 1 year ago 3
@chesykin97 There was a huge conflict between the Yankees and the Southerners who supported the Union.
The reason the Jayhawkers supported the Union wasn't because they hated slavery or believed in Unity, but because they envied the wealthier Southerners in the "low country". They were valuable to the Union because they could ride and shoot. The thought of raiding Southern plantations must have excited them. They probably welcomed any opportunity to get into fights and steal.

@Igarody Somewhat this is really an example of robbery and corruption in the Union Army at the time.
methusehlah 1 year ago
@methusehlah What you see here is just one of thousands of war crimes committed by Union soldiers. I was surprised when Glory first came out back in 1989 that they would actually show their war crimes.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@Igarody Pretty much, rape, murder and looting. What you see here is only one single thing out of thousands of incidents Union soldiers did in the South. Since the Union won, they got away with it. The Civil War was censored by the US. Government. The Official Records were also censored. For nearly 145 years they have hid the truth.
My associates and I have found many things buried at the National Archives and Library of Congress. I had well over 200 family members fight for the Union.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@rebel2276
Who illegally seceded because they didn't like the results of a presidential election? .

@rebel2276
Like I said, you're full of shit. Anything else? How about answering some of those questions I asked.
ronnie12398 1 year ago
@ronnie12398 I don't give a fuck what you think. I can tell you know very little on the Civil War. Your questions are basic, Eleventh grade questions.
Um lets see here, Lincoln wrote a letter to the Governor of South Carolina a month before any firing on the fort. In the letter Lincoln promised to "Pull the soldiers from the fort and the fort will be abandoned." So what does Lincoln do a month later? Changed his mind and went against his own word. Now he wanted to send provisions in the fort.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@rebel2276
Since it was a US military fort in the US, why would a US president "promise" some seditious state governor that he would do that? Abraham Lincoln did the right thing and did it right from the beginning of the war until the end of it. You're just an apologist for the Confederacy and would probably like to see it resurrected.
ronnie12398 1 year ago
@ronnie12398 Now all Lincoln had to do was remove the troops and put them on the boat that had the provisions on it. But Lincoln wanted to see what South Carolina would do. Lincoln got just what he wanted, the South fired. Lincoln never even went before Congress to ask for permission to go to war. That is illegal and unconstitutional.
Northern newspapers editors criticized Lincoln on that and he had them arrested and thrown in prisons.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@ronnie12398 The very first public statement that Abraham Lincoln made after being inaugurated as the sixteenth president was an ironclad defense of slavery: I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the institution of slavery in the states where it exists. I believe I have no lawful right to do so, and I have no inclination to do so.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@rebel2276
Yeah, but he changed his mind, didn't he? Stop being a revisionist jackass.
ronnie12398 1 year ago
@ronnie12398 Lincoln did not "Change his mind". The Southern states did not stick around await for heavy tariffs to be placed on them. Hence why they left the Union.
Lets pretend President Obama says that he will heavy tax certain states and if they do not pay he will sent a army and "Bloodshed" will occur. He would be impeached in a matter of weeks/months by Congress.
Yes, please follow your own words, stop being a jackass and trying to stereotype and judge people's screen names.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@ronnie12398 In the same speech, Lincoln promised a military invasion and bloodshed in any state that refused to collect the federal tariff on imports, which had just been more than doubled two days before his inauguration. [T]here needs to be no bloodshed or violence, and there shall be none unless it be forced upon the national authority, he continued.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@ronnie12398 Thus, mere minutes after taking an oath to protect the constitutional liberties of American citizens, Abraham Lincoln threatened to orchestrate the murder of many of those same citizens.
Anymore questions?
rebel2276 1 year ago
@rebel2276 Andrew Jackson, a southern slaveholder, threatened to hang South Carolinian John Calhoun and to invade South Carolina when they threatened secession in 1832. Jackson would have taken the same actions as Lincoln if needed.
dikdix 1 year ago
@dikdix Sorry for the delay, on my response out in South Korea again. Your post is 110% accurate, President Andrew Jackson indeed said that.
But I would be curious what he would have done, if he was the President during the war of 1812. Five New England states (Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont) wanted to have a "Separate Peace" with Britain. They sent Representatives to Hartford, Connecticut for a convention of meetings. Many were screaming for secession.
rebel2276 1 year ago
@dikdix The "Hartford Convention" was between December 1814-January 1815. The war ended and thankfully those Five New England states could not sell out to the British.
The point here is, no one questioned them on succeeding from the Union.....
rebel2276 1 year ago
@rebel2276 The Hart. Conv. was more a political gamble by Federalists to discredit Democrats. They were probably a year too late in their efforts. I doubt the states would have seceded. Going back to Jackson, funny that you mention the H.C.. Some of the Hartford issues had to do with the powers of the commander-in-chief. Madison insisted on running the war. One aspect was allowing Jackson to make war as he pleased, which turned out to be a great decision. Let the military fight the wars.
dikdix 1 year ago
@dikdix I agree with your post, and also if another year of war, they may have left the Union.
Major General Reynolds was asked before Major General Meade to take command of the AOP. Reynold went to Washington City and told Lincoln, he wanted "Full Control". He did not get it and thus command passed to Meade.
I have been in the Army for 26 years and I completely agree, "Let the military fight the wars". Run for President and you have my vote!
rebel2276 1 year ago
@rebel2276 Judging Jackson by his War of 1812 efforts, had he been Pres. during Mr. Madison's War, he probably would have challenged every last one of the New Englanders to a duel. There was no gray area with Jackson. Regardless of one's opinion of Lincoln and his actions against the Confederacy, at least Lincoln was resolute and unwavering on the union issue. Jackson, Lincoln, the current president would do well to grow a pair like those two.
dikdix 1 year ago
@dikdix LOL, so true with Jackson. It took me around 26 years to finally figure out what was really going on with the war. It had always been in our face, but we rubbed it off as something that sounded, crazy.
Some of my associates found some of Lincoln's letters at the National Archives and emailed me some very interesting emails. I know hold Lincoln in very high esteem. Lincoln once wrote, "The source of the war was not slavery, the source of the war was the Jesuits."
rebel2276 1 year ago
@dikdix Lincoln knew what they were up to and wrote they started the war. They had him assassinated. Booth was just the trigger man. Stanton was behind the assassination along with many higher officials.
Interesting that Secretary of War, Stanton, ripped out Eighteen pages of Booth's diary.
Booth probably wrote down ALL that was involved. To cover it all up, have them all killed.
Have a good night, Sir
rebel2276 1 year ago
@dikdix Both Jackson and Lincoln, like most of their contemporaries, were in favor of neutrality. They followed Pres. Washington's advice to stay out of "foreign entanglements".
Also, Jackson and Lincoln were backwoodsmen. Both were self-educated men who became small-time lawyers.
MondoBeno 1 year ago
@MondoBeno backwoodsmen? i am not american what does that term mean?
Rex1987 1 year ago
@Rex1987 In the USA, the term "backwoodsman" refers to someone who lives in the forest or in the hills, far from an urban area. It has negative connotations, because it can also mean "uneducated".
Other similar terms include "hillbilly" or "cracker".
Unfortunately, there was a culture of violence among these men. They were known to kill each other over insults, and had feuds that lasted years.

You know, the Confederate army tried to get thier slaves out on the battle field before the Union did. There are two reasons why this did not work. The slaves (for some strange reason) did not want to fight for the people who kept them oppressed. And the already brittle economy would weaken even further if hands stopped minding the fields.
AuroraCelest 2 years ago 2
Very untrue, many free Africans that owned slaves themselves offered their service to the Confederacy. They were protecting their lands and property just like anyone else, regardless of color.
The 1st and 2nd Louisiana Native Guards were a few of those men.
The 1860 Census report had around 10,000 Freed Africans owning around 60,000 slaves.
The problem was the Confederacy did not want to arm them. It was bad enough that the CSA white soldiers had horrible rifles at the start of the war.
rebel2276 2 years ago
The 1st and 2nd Louisiana fought for the Union.
The free blacks that supposedly owned slaves were only slave owners on paper. Often free blacks would go and earn money to buy their friends or family members freedom. When they did so they would be documented in the records as owning slaves. There were very few blacks people who were real slave owners with plantations.
JPfromFlint 1 year ago
Before they joined the Union, they had offered their service to the Confederacy.

Montgomery
IgnatzKolisch 2 years ago
i find it strange that col. montgomery was portrayed as a racist when in reality he was the extreme opposite. col mongomery was a very strong supporter in abolishing slavery and hated those who supported and profitted from slavery and it's for tht reason he wanted a black regiment, he wanted slave owners to suffer and who better to make them suffer than the people who they oppressed.

Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving

Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against blacks. Fortyfive

black.
