  • best.episode.ever.

  • they're all so old....

  • You're lucky they didn't fire your ass while you were striking because you're all expendable. You have no talent and your episodes are completely unfunny and unwatchable.

  • You guys SUCK! YOU SUCK MATT SELMAN! There's The Simpsons (seasons 1-9) and The "Simpsons" (seasons 10-suck my ass not funny at all who watches this crap).

  • Comment removed

  • josh weinstein and bill oakley have written some of the best episodes

  • @ch4p2 You sir know what you are talking about

  • Comment removed

  • Wow look at all these unfunny douches, these people are responsable for killing the simpsons

  • I think that season 20 (after HD) and season 21 are pretty good better than the 2000's to 2009 but not as good as season 1-9. But I think the reasons the show became bad is because they ran out of ideas and they might have gotten snobbish and though nothing could happen

  • I was shocked to learn that John Viti wrote the Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel how does the guy who wrote awesome Simpsons episodes go on to write movies like those

  • they want to write some good story

    there crao today

  • Ok ok...Sorry, I won't watch it on Crappy Hulu. I support them, they're dedicated to their work and they've worked hard just to be ignored. And they are right about the Media conglomos, they are Disney and other assholes trying to make tv their way and mess it up for everyone. Believe me, I've been warned many times of these people. o.o

  • who was that guy at 0:31? sounds like George Meyer a bit... and that guy between Rob LaZebnik (Who I thought should have written more episodes) and Tim Long (Who shouldn't have written any episodes at all). Max Pross?

I'm also surprised that 'Tom Gammill & Max Pross' haven't written any episodes at all lol.

also is that David Mirkin next to Mike Scully and Rob?

  • I think the guy at 0.31 is Dan Greaney. If you ever hear him on the DVD commentaries, he has the best laugh ever!

  • oh, I just realised it is! lol I was thinking "where is this guy was from?" lol. thanks

  • George meyer is one of my favorite writers on the show.

  • he was good, until season 11's "Brothers little helper"

  • The Simpsons writers are the best. They are hilarious and intelligent. Too bad Swartzwelder wasn't there, he would have had hilarious things to say. But it sucks he is too reclusive.

  • lol, "no emmys."

  • money hungry?

  • simpsons season 11 is out on dvd october 11th

  • the simpsons the best

  • You is Mike Scully on crutches?

I know him from the commentaies on the DVDs.

  • These people thought they could make money off the internet, but the internet hasn't matured as a distribution mechanism to the extent that one can trade immediate work for the promise of future revenue. It will be a few years before digital distribution of media on the internet can be monitized to an extent that necessitates producers to forgo their fair value in more traditional media.

  • are you kidding? you think the ads on the fox site, daily show and the rest get put up their for free? Who do you think gets the massive amount of revenue from those ads?

  • Perhaps, you should read what I said again. You didn't seem to understand it.

  • You said "These people thought they could make money off the internet, but the internet hasn't matured as a distribution mechanism to the extent that one can trade immediate work for the promise of future revenue."

It has matured, and money is changing hands from advertisers to website owners. Money is being made, it just isn't being distributed because there is no clause in their contracts allowing them to get paid.

  • You dont understand. That sentence of mine that you quoted was pointing out that these people quit their immediate jobs for a piece of nonexistant money in the future. They gave up real money for nonexistant money. The internet hasn't matured to extent that one can promise future revenue for immediate work. That is why this strike failed and why the people in the strike lost money. I didn't say you can't make money off the internet. The leaders of this strike were stupid and hot-headed. Goodbye.

  • I wonder how Matt Groening felt about the strike

  • supported them i believe.

  • what the fuck are these people talking about.

  • @dimwad420 They're on strike a-hole

  • Oh and BTW thats why season 11 probably isn't yet out on dvd and why I haven't heard about it coming out yet, didn't think until now.

  • it's out now, but season 12 will be out september or october.

  • strange hearing them on commentary and then seeing them talk and their faces.

  • hahaha Rupert Murdy BLOWS HARD!

    hahahaha

  • I have an idea the corporations should have fired every writer and gone to a non union policy hirering new talent. Maybe then we will have some new ideas on TV. Down with the BS Writers Guild.

  • im guessing you dont run a major broadcasting corporation, quite a wacky idea you have their. i think a lot of the problem is the corporations not giving the writers enough freedom, you couldnt just sack everyone-if a writer is good then they arent going to be in a non union environment.

  • No I don't however writers due to their unions slack off knowing their union has their back. I find that if anyone knows they will be fired for not producing people tend to work harder and come up with new ideas. If all you have to do is follow a greedy union and you are safe the product produced is not as good.

  • They should of just been fired, I mean seriously have you seen the simpsons at all lately. I'd rather watch a blank screen or family guy for that matters...

  • thank god the stike is over, and thank god the Simpsons survived

  • The simpsons was so good of a show, it became a strong part of my life. My youtube name is even a reference from on of the episodes (the one with the illegal autodialer and a 1 dollar donation survice called "Happy Dude.") LONG LIVE THE SIMPSONS!!!!

  • Anyone who thinks their jobs are easy should try writing a T.V worthy episode themselves. Those people could do it and that's why they write for a living. Enough said.

  • Now that makes no sence..... if they could actually write for a living they wouldn't need to strike.

  • That's why they went on strike. They wanted a better share in online profits from their work.

  • the simpsons writers don't need more money they make so much money on DVD sales alone they still get paid royalties for rebrodcasts and get paid up front for the episode! on the internet when you see the show arn't almost all of the ads promos for the shows on there network

  • me, thats for sure

  • well thats kind of offensive what 9996699 had to say isnt it.

  • Freakin douchebag, the simpsons is classic

  • Wow,you writers are fucking brilliant !!!

The town looses a couple billion, and you settle for pennys.Nice job dumb fucks.

  • Not a bad looking group of men.

  • Give the writers what they want.

    It's crazy!

These guys work harder than any one else on The Simpsons(Except for maybe the animators). I am a huge fan of some writers and the show. My favorite TV writers of all time are Bill Oakley, Josh Weinstein, John Swartzwelder, Mike + Brian Scully, David Mirkin, George Meyer, Mike Reiss, Al Jean, Conan O'Brien, and many more. Those are my favorite writers who just have worked on my favorite show The Simpsons.

  • I like Al Jean but I think its time to pass the torch as showrunner but stay on the show. Brian Scully now works on Family Guy as a Consultary Producer. Except for Conan, Oakley & Weinstein the rest there woked on The Simpsons Movie.

I think John Swartzwelder is my favorite writer but its hard to say.

  • I agree, its time to get a new show runner is, the show for the most part has only had about 5 showrunners, for 20 seasons, personally I think the job should go to Matt Selman & Ian Maxtone Grahame, or perhaps Tim Long.

  • Tim Long hasnt really impressed me much over his past 6 episodes. Matt Selman I would prefer the most because he has written really the best episodes lately and has a lot of humor. Not to mention has been working on The Simpsons since season 9. Ian is great too and has been working since season 7 but I prefer Matt.

  • I agree, but I full on HATE Matt Selman, he has written the worst episodes I could think of.

Like the recent 'Treehouse of Horror XIX'.....pure garbage. Ian's awsome though, I wish he could write solo episodes again.

  • Do you like Trilogy Of Error which Matt Selman wrote or The Father Who Knew Too Little. I agree I would like to see Ian write solo again I just wounder what is up with that.

  • I don't mind the Trilogy of Error, but "it didn't feel like a simpson episode" and what is up with Tom Gammill and Max Pross, they never write any episodes! lol except jokes, I now that.

  • I agree Tom & Max get payed to work on the show for now 11 years and has yet to write an episode. Every other producer including David Mirkin has wrote atleast 1 episode. I miss John Swartzwelder.

  • same, but he is most likely going to come back for the Movie sequel. Not really looking forward it though lol. BUT Once season 15 and the 2nd movie comes out. I'm gonna watch EVERY episode written/co-written by him. imagine that lol.

by the way. do you know anything that Richard Sakai and Bonita Pietila do on the show? they're credited as 'Produced By..." not realy sure of that. I'm also wondering what recent thing David Mirkin did for the show, and Mike Reiss, too. and Dan Greaney.

  • Richard Sakai is the president of Gracie Films. He has worked with James L. Brooks for a long time. Mike Reiss & David Mirkin are part time writers on the show and I dont know why they should be fulltime. Aswell with Dan Greaney who used to work fulltime a full time a few years ago. Ron Hauge is back as Co-Executive Produxer and I would love it if Greaney came back full time that would be a cool.

  • I reckon the next additional executive producer for 21st season might be Joel Cohen or John Frink for some reason. It's probably gonna be the same as the previous season.

  • The Executive Producers coming this season after the holdovers old last season are Al Jean, Ian Maxtone Graham, Matt Selman, John Frink, Joel H. Cohen, Kevin Curran, J. Stewart Burns, Michael Price, & Marc Wilmore.

With so many EPs I think one of them will be co-showrunner or multi show runners. My guess Al Jean, Ian Maxtone Graham, & Matt Selman.

  • Writers work hard?

Obviously you dont know what hard work is dumb ass.Writers dont do shit.

  • "They work harder then any one else on the Simpsosns" Bullshit they regurgitate shit. They are nothing but jokes, writers are nothing more then people who re-write other people's shit.

  • but arent the people who write the shit in the first place also called writers

  • why can't they stop the strike!? they should not go with everyone else

    give them what they want!!

and which story is true, the one on spill or united hollywood?

  • writers deserve more credit if it wasnt for them there would be no shows

  • I THINK THE COST OF COKE AND WEED HAS GONE UP IN LA / "DRUG TEST THEM AND LETS GO FROM THERE" , If there good boys give them some more money , if there bad boys dont give them shit ! they will just spend it on drugs.

  • BLOWHARD

  • I agree that the writing has gone downhill in the past 3 years. I don't even bother to watch the new episodes anymore. Matt Selman has written some great shows, though and so has Mike Scully even before he became executive producer in Season 8. I personally think they should just quit while they're ahead and leave fans with many many years of brilliant shows.

  • Matt Selman, Ian Maxtone Graham are the two writers that I can count on the write an outstanding episode because they do it every season. Mike Scully I thought did a great job as a showrunner and a writer. He was better then Jean.

Matt Selman also co-wrote Simpsons: Road Rage, Hit & Run, The Simpsons Game.

  • I think Al Jean did a great job as executive producer and he has written many great episodes with and without Mike Reiss. I agree Ian Maxtone-Graham has written some very funny shows as well. God bless all the writers who have given us fans almost 2 decades of hilarity.

  • I dont think most of the writers can be on the same page as Jean. Ron Hauge is back as Co-Executive Producer and I love his episodes.

  • Yes Ron Hauge has written many great episodes including Homer's Phobia, one of my favourites. Is Jean currently the head Executive Producer? You seem to know a lot about the writers/producers BartmanMC.

  • i disagree, tonight's episode was great.

  • I missed it, I was at the movies. What was it about?

  • screw the strike i wanna see the oscars haha. jk i dont know anything about this strike. but i do wanna see the oscars... *sigh*

  • Then you can watch the news conference.

  • The Simpsons is my favorite tv show...i own all dvds.

  • I AM WITH WRITERS WGA...

  • Unions are a crutch for those who want more than they are worth, which is what supply and demand determines in a free system. Nobody is forced to work for anybody. Everybody is a free agent. You get what you are worth. If you are not worth much, then a union is way to get more.

  • And if someone else thinks that you are not worth much? What are you supposed to do then?

  • Find someone else. If no one thinks you are worth more than you are currently being paid, then you know your true value.

  • So if I think that you should only be paid $2 a day that means you are only worth $2?

I think that you fail to factor in the greed of the management here.

  • IF what you do is not worth more than $2 a day to anybody, then something is wrong with you and what you're doing. So yes, $2 is your worth.

  • And what if I and my work was worth more, but nobody, anywhere, was willing to pay me more then $2?

  • Then your work is not worth more. Why do fast food workers get paid mininum wage but brain surgeons get paid more? Because one type of work can be done by anybody and the other can be done only by a specially trained and educated few. The supply side of supply and demand pushes the neurosurgeon's wage a bit higher.

  • If your work is worth more than two dollars there will always be an employer willing to charge more. If nobody is willing to pay more than two dollars then you obviously are not good at your job and should consider looking into a different one.

  • Not if you are negotiating with a group of companies, in direct competition with each other, that own and operate the most powerful studios and television companies in the business. It's called COLLUSION or PRICE-FIXING. It's illegal in every other major market in the country.

  • one: I highly doubt there is price fixing with all the independent tv programs out right now.

two: Price Fixing is not illegal.Illegalizing pricefixing is the most idiotic thing to do. WHy does it matter? The major corporations are shooting themeselves in the foot anyways.

three: If TV sitcom writers don't like the treatment they are getting they can always go into other types of jobs. How about writing a book or a script for a movie?

  • ElFuego-

First look up the definition of price-fixing. Then tell me about all the independent tv programs 'out there'. Then look up who the members of the AMPTP are...you'll find they own and operate most every major media outlet including the 'independent' ones like HBO. Then look up all the other responses to the tired argument 'if you don't like your job get another one'. Finally, the WGA includes writers of film as well as television.

  • I do not believe in unions. If someone does not want to work under the present conditions, terminate and hire anew. The market corrects itself. Just as water finds its own level, so too does talent, labor and wage. There is a supply and demand balance for everything.

  • and so when the time comes we will leave you cold and hungry left to your own standards!

  • okay. lol

  • the market that you seem to believe is free is not free those who own the most control it and the U.S. military protects it. it seems to me that you just do not care about anyone and you definitely are lacking compassion.

  • The fact that you go from talking about unions to military conspiracies reveals that you are a crank. Take your medication and go to bed.

  • Right. You mean the market corrects in the same way it corrected itself during the Great Depression?

I mean it must have been the market and not the governmental policy of Roosevelt or Hitler creating an arms race in Europe...

  • What does the stock market crash have to do with the supply and demand of labor? It is really quite simple: If person A does not wish to work for price A, another person will, until the wage reaches a level where other employers offer better wages to attract those same employees. Supply and demand regulates all prices, why not the price of labor?

  • Oh sorry. Since you were talking about economics I just assumed that you knew something about the history of it.

Do you know what economists said at the time of the Great Depression? The basically said, "just wait, the market will sort itself out".

You have to face that fact that there are times where the market will not sort itself out.

  • Markets always sort themselves out. There's a saying: The best cure for high prices is high prices.

  • How exactly will this work if you aren't getting enough money to stimulate the market?

  • your a piece of shit who doesnt understand economics, and the pyschology of humans, people exploit others, remmber when you fire some one you are fucking with there life, with out unions employers would fuck empolyees all day long, using them like cattle, not people, un fair hours wages, and being harrased by hot headed god complexed boss

  • You're a hotheaded, crude leftist socialist who understands that I'm right. Supply and demand works. No other system does. Some of the best run most profitable companies in the world are non-unionized.

  • yeah like fast food, that has bosses that chang schedules with out notice, yell in your face for mistakes, and expect you to care about a company that doesnt care about you, .....what ever man

  • uinions are there to help the workers...not the company

  • I feel so sorry for these millionaires. Gosh, how will they ever make it? Why compared to the wealthy people in Darfur or Iraq or Afghanistan, or South America, they are literally one breath away from complete poverty.

  • Great logic. Why don't you take three dollars an hour instead of seven at the McDonald's where you work- you're still making more than they do in Darfur.

  • Go get a Dictionary-OPEN IT, don't forget to do that, and look up the word Hyperbole. Most people would realize I was being sarcastic and using excessive example to make a point. I don't need to take less money for that which I do, I am not whining like some little girl about not making enough money while working on one of the most popular television shows of all time.

  • Open a dictionary, look up self important pond scum.

  • Why, am I going to see your picture there? BTW there Einstein, there would be no dictionary that would carry an inquiry such as this.

Don't try to engage in a battle of wits where you are woefully underarmed.

  • Sorry I meant look in a mirror.

  • Shows the level of your mentality. Can't even come up with an original idea. Just like the writers on the Simpsons.

  • An original idea? Like a ghost car video? Oh wise and original being, show me the way.

  • OK, first, look into the reason you need to insult and try to denigrate total strangers. Second, once you come to the bottom of your dysfunction, change whatever it is that is making you this neurotic.

  • Go get a Dictionary-OPEN IT, don't forget to do that, and look up the word Hyperbole. Most people would realize I was being sarcastic.

  • Now you just look sad!!!

  • that hurt soooo much, did you take hours to come up with that?

  • BTW-that crack about McDonalds, it hurt sooo much. Did you take 3 or 4 days to come up with that one. You see rather than be some greedy, no talent hacks such as those in the WGA, I chose to do something profitable with my life. I love the way you little children put false ages on your registration.

  • Why are there only male writers for the Simpsons?

  • couse the show is suposed to be funny :-)

  • hahahaha

  • Caroline Omine, a female Simpsons writer, isn't there on this video.

  • Who said life is fair? Don't like the pay, find another job. Unions are the number 1 reason Companies are leaving the United States. Don't worry writers will change their tune, when they stop being able to feed their kids at night. They will get some lower deal after the election. So glad they been all shut-up and can't effect the election. Does not effect me, Bill O and Rush are still on the air ways.

  • You dont have no idea what youre talking about. Im from Germany and we have here a very big influence of Unions. And we have still a better situation for the workers and our companys are still doing well. The unions are allways a good thing. Theyre only not good for those who like big differences in the earnings of the population of a country.

  • Yes, let's not ask for more money or these companies will leave the US. Soon we'll have Indian guys writing 24 and Desperate Housewives because it's so easy to do...You're just another poor idiot who thinks that somehow if you kiss rich corporate ass you'll be rich. It ain't gonna happen. PS. It's air WAVES, pal. Airways are what I wish you would stop breathing through.

  • Is there a such thing as writer "scabs?"

  • yea. there are. unemployed writers like myself who want to have their material used would go and speak with the producers and the head honchos of the major corporations such as Fox, NBC, CBS and what not and make a deal to unofficially write for their shows.

  • these writers merely show the laugable quality- or lack thereof, this once beautiful and great show possesed.

  • So what if the writers strike? What's the worst that can happen, that we might get bored with TV and read a book? There's nothing but junk on TV anyway.

  • here's $5 get back to work.

  • Go WGA! You have my support!

  • The Writers Guild Foundation has established an Industry Support Fund to assist members of the industry who are in financial distress as a direct result of the Writers Guild of America strike against the AMPTP, which began on November 5, 2007. This Fund is designed to provide emergency assistance for food, housing, transport, medical and other expenses, info at btlnews, org under strike blog or email me i will help direct you to forms ...spread the helpful information to those in need please

  • Uh, yeah.. screw em. They should've banked the $20k per rerun, they'll never get it from $1.99 downloads. Maybe they'll figure that out soon or maybe not. The death of the networks would be good for the nation.

  • THE GUY THAT HASN'T WON AN EMMY - must have been working on the show the past 5 seasons

  • Daniel Chun I think has been working on the show since season 13. But his first written episode I think didnt happen until season 17, season 18 production JABF is when he gets credited as co-proudcer, and now season 19 he is credited producer.

The guy on crutches who won 6 Emmys Mike Scully has been working sicne season 5, Matt Selman has been working on the show for 10 years now years.

  • your not even worth the argument newbie.....

  • lol you just trashed one of the greatest sitcoms of all time and suggested two of the worst. These writers deserve everything they're striking for, and by the way you also suggested two of the worst shows ever with disgusting, racist foulmouthed writers and creators that spew off horrible episodes. Grow up.

  • Twenty years of wonderfully written episodes. The Simpsons' writers are amazing.

Are some of the smaller production companies cutting deals? Is this a guild strategy?

  • The Simpson's writers rock!!

  • Can anyone here explain to me what is going on with the Daily Show? Why are they going back on the air? Does Stewart have a deal with the unions or is he crossing the picket line?

  • Perhaps some of the smaller production companies are cutting deals.

  • From what I've heard from teh Writer's Guild, Jon and Stephen were forced into it by Comedy Central.

Either that or their wallets were stretched REALLY tight.

They still support the writers but it's going to be hard to go back on air as they can't use any segments the writers would usually script. IE - everything but the interviews.

  • Simpsons got on air before Family guy and they were already a success before family guy kicked in.

  • I AM WITH WRITERS USA...

  • from what I understand, the writer's strike in hollywood is about a bogus deal the big corporations are trying to force the writers to take... something like a pitiful flat rate pay off and no residual from their work. As anyone who has paid attention to TV in the last 50 years, there is MAJOR money in residuals and without the creative talent of the writers, there wouldn't be an industry much less an income. Fair is fair. Pay the talent their due!

  • as much as I like family guy more, your wrong. Seth has not won many awards for Family Guy and American dad, and it is known fact that most of the copying is done by the Family Guy staff, they just present the simpsons humor in a funnier way. Also, th family guy writing staff is on the same strike as the simpsons writing staff, so your saying the family guys writers strike is a failure as well. Also, it isn't failing, in fact, the pressure i coming down on the networks now to reseolve the issue.

  • Get your facts straight.

  • are they still on strike

  • yes...and the AMPTP (the organization representing the studios)is refusing to negotiate

  • i am with writers usa...for one wonderfu wordl...

  • I was talking to Mike Scully today on the picket lines with my dad (He was the guy with crutches here, today he just had a brace), and according to him the studio STILL claims that the Simpsons has yet to make a profit. I will hand it to the studios, they have remarkable accountants to pretend that the Simpsons has yet to show a net profit. "Oh, the Simpsons hasn't made money, of course not, but we'd never want to get rid of it, it makes too much money"

  • if you want make money off the internet, buy stock in fox.

  • since they discovered they were getting ripped off

  • So you guys are saying you don't get paid enough money? Join the club. I think the employees of McDonalds ought to be on strike too. If they did, you guys would starve to death.

  • yea, true, the talent at McDonalds and Hollywood is comparable, right?
