@gottarunrs It's my understanding that Maul WAS going to return in the second prequel with help from Sidous and some robotic legs. However, when Lucas decided that he needed two whole films to portray Anakin's descent into darkness, and that he would jump forward ~10 years in AOTC, he decided that Maul's return was best kept for another occasion. Thankfully, that occasion is now, in an upcoming episode of the Clone Wars series.

The joke is Obi wan defeats Darth Maul by slashing him from behind ... so why not right there at the start of the fight.

@Grilledcheesedude I can. :) If Maul really was "the best," then he should've beaten Kenobi, and gone on to defeat Palpetine and become Lord of the Sith. Sadly, he was but a Sith apprentice who caught one of the Jedi's top swordsmen (Qui Gon) on a bad day, and was rewarded by being cut in half and given the shaft.

Don't get me wrong, Maul is a badass character (due in no small part to the awesomeness of Ray Park), but he pales in comparison to many of his Sith bretheren, past and present.
