The sad thing is, they finished 6-6 after this speech, (this was right before the 1984 season which was the worst of Bo's career). They did go 10-1-1 the following year and go on to win another 3 out of 4 Big 10 titles for Bo. 86, 88, and 89 as 85 they were 2nd place but finished #2 in the nation.

It is Rich Rods fault that he can hold on to the ball! After a game or two of bad ball control, u sit there and teach him day after day the importance of holding onto the ball, and teach him techniques on how to secure it. Coaching isnt only on gameday, it's all year round. On defense, his philosophy is spead and qujickness. And with speed and quickness you lose strength. Hence them not being able to tackle. And once again, if they're not doing it well, you run tackling drills all week long.
And yes we have lost games by gameday coaching this year! Two or three games in a row we went for it on fourth down when we should of went for three points. Then we ended up losing the game by 2 or 3! What makes u think that we would get the great players from Ohio, Florida, California, and Texas if we cant get the best ones from our own state! Even if we get that field goal we're still down by 5, we'd still need a touchdown to win. finally 7-5 would not a huge success. Yes compared to the previous 2 seasons it's better. But 7-5 leads to 8-4, then 9-3, then 10-2, then 11-1, then 12-0. We need to keep building, and the spread will work, you have to give it more than 2 years

Although I am a Badger first and foremost, Bo Schembechler is inspiring. I played this video during a staff meeting at where I work and it got people to think very seriously on where they want to be. Despite he is gone, lets hope this video is never forgotten.

During the Ten Year war, and much of the rivalry itself, the UM/OSU game and the Big Ten title was considered our own national championship. For both schools, the entire season was geared toward the Big Ten Title and the UM/OSU game, which is why it is the greatest rivalry in all of sports.

@lostinthemix i dont think it really matters....i think the "michigan era" is over and that high talent players are choosing SEC schools over michigan. OSU will continue to pull 99% of the talented players from the state of Ohio, which is the top 5 states for hs football in the country. And Iowa, Wisconsin and Notre Dame will pull in the best recruits from their respective states. Pretty much leaves UM and MSU to battle it out over a low ranking hs football state of Michigan.

The sad thing is, they finished 6-6 after this speech, (this was right before the 1984 season which was the worst of Bo's career). They did go 10-1-1 the following year and go on to win another 3 out of 4 Big 10 titles for Bo. 86, 88, and 89 as 85 they were 2nd place but finished #2 in the nation.

It is Rich Rods fault that he can hold on to the ball! After a game or two of bad ball control, u sit there and teach him day after day the importance of holding onto the ball, and teach him techniques on how to secure it. Coaching isnt only on gameday, it's all year round. On defense, his philosophy is spead and qujickness. And with speed and quickness you lose strength. Hence them not being able to tackle. And once again, if they're not doing it well, you run tackling drills all week long.

those games we lost by a field goal or so. I'm not gonna put the game on the line with our consistenly shit kicker to win it for us. Specific example, Purdue. Even if we get that field goal we're still down by 5, we'd still need a touchdown to win. finally 7-5 would not a huge success. Yes compared to the previous 2 seasons it's better. But 7-5 leads to 8-4, then 9-3, then 10-2, then 11-1, then 12-0. We need to keep building, and the spread will work, you have to give it more than 2 years

Teaching players how to tackle, take snaps, make decisions... that is all coaching. The "bend-don't-break" defensive strategy last year was a bust. The play calling often was unnecessarily erroneous. There are many things that Coach Rod needs to improve on however you bring up a good point. Rich Rod is not and CAN NOT be responsible for everything as some misguided fans seem to think.
Our recruiting class isn't even close to best.

Out of all of them, I would say Coach Rod is the least responsible simply because we haven't seen his system with the players necessary. The record of a football team is not an indicator of how good a coach is. A much better indicator is the decisions he makes and how effective those decisions are. Him, John Wooden, Woody Hayes, Joe Paterno, what great leaders. Today you get assholes like urbam myer, Calapairi, pitino, saban, guys with no loyalty other then to money, guys who will cheat to win.

Although I am a Badger first and foremost, Bo Schembechler is inspiring. I played this video during a staff meeting at where I work and it got people to think very seriously on where they want to be. Despite he is gone, lets hope this video is never forgotten.

No matter what fan you are, this is inspirational with a sense of truth being no man is larger than the team! Yes Bo was tough but I would have run through a wall for him as most his players would have also!

Michigan fans revere this guy for some reason -- truth is, he was a LOSER. Never won a national title, choked in the Rose Bowl. Leave it to scUM fans to laud a coach who was, is, and always will be a loser.

Michigan fans, Ohio State fans, and all REAL college football fans revere Bo. During the Ten Year war, and much of the rivalry itself, the UM/OSU game and the Big Ten title was considered our own national championship. For both schools, the entire season was geared toward the Big Ten Title and the UM/OSU game, which is why it is the greatest rivalry in all of sports.

YOU are the loser. his goal wasn't to win the national championship. his goal was to beat ohio state. plus the reason michigan and all other big 10 schools have a hard time winning the rosebowl (and most other bowls) is because they are 3 hours away from home and jetlagged. plus they usually play in the other teams backyard!
he was 4 wins away from getting more wins than his mentor woody hayes, and woody coached longer. he won 13 big ten titles in 20 years when woody won 13 in 28 years.

both were great great men and dear friends.woody had diabetes and should not have been coaching the clemson game.he was very wrong to hit that young man.BUT theres a hell of alot more to wayne woodrow hayes than that awful moment!!! i have the utmost respect for bo, the wolverines and the university of michigan. i seek out this speech from bo once or twice a year, there is no match. i hope michigan gets back to prominence under rodriguez and comes back out to pasadena soon. no better big-10 / pac-10rose bowl than 'sc vs. michigan. love bo!
