  • great song

  • We are the keepers of our time. Don't lock the memories, the lessons, the triumphs and the terrors away in our minds. We are doomed to repeat the lessons we fail to pass down. The teacher is only as good as the lesson. We fail where we neglect to teach. The past didn't die... we kill it with silence.

  • TOP

  • how does this version have more views then levon helm and the band?

  • the people in the crowd are assholes when someone asks you to sing along you do

  • On Family Ties, Elyse and Steven were reminiscing about folk singers. Their daughter never heard of Joan Baez or Judy Collins, but she had heard of Joan Collins.

  • But do young people know about the Civil War itself, let alone the folk singers who sang about it?

  • Gifdell, My comment about young people knowing little about past performers is based on 40 years of teaching. With few exceptions, none of my singing groups are aware of Joni Mtchell, Joan Baez, Melanie Safka, Leon Russell, Jethro Tull and the like.

To show you what I do with kids and music, visit showcaseyourmusic and type in these artists,

the marimba belles; Jemma, Brooke Pearce ; and you'll see that I do try to cover all genres and eras of music. I'm glad you are educated.

  • nice version, but it pales when compared to levon's vocal with the band..not even close

  • Traitor

  • So sad. A comment on young people's culture. I teach music and virtually none of my students from age 8 to 18 have never heard of Joan Baez, Eva Cassidy or Jim Croce. They know the results of the spin masters such as Elton John, Madonna etc, but real beauty ...nah!!!

  • @veryfussy this is one of my favorite song and it has been since years(although i knew the german version first) and im fourteen!!!! SO...some people still remember...

  • @veryfussy Educate them, veryfussy. That's why you're there.

  • still moving my heart.! Christina

  • huk-a-poo blouses!

  • 118 yankees are glad they drove old Dixie down.

  • Great posting. Excellent music. A true classic.

  • I first heard Joan Baez on my 21st birthday at 4.00 am as drunk as a skunk and I thought I was in heaven. No drugs in those days, so I was happily boozed on gin and tonics. Joan Baez is wonderful and I have used her voice as a model for so many young students. Then along came Eva Cassidy. Another legend.

  • @veryfussy ah yes,,i always thought jim crocie was the grestest loss before their time but nothing will ever surpass the loss of eva

  • One of the best covers of any song ever... I love you Joan.

  • Wisdom comes with age

Her disquiet at the human-rights violations of communist Vietnam made her increasingly critical of its government and she organized the May 30, 1979, publication, of a full-page advertisement (published in four major U.S. newspapers)[35] in which the communists were described as having created a nightmare, which put her at odds with a segment of the U.S. left wing, who were uncomfortable criticizing a leftist régime.[

  • @fatmongus1 makes a good point... not sure what that point is - but I feel like if I disagree he may ALL CAPS me to death.

  • @mattyoungbull Indeed!! I often fear for us when the ALL CAPS-types are about.....

  • @FATMONGUS1 - Honey, you need to take your meds.

  • Happy Birthday Joan!

  • happy birthday joan

  • You are an uneducated idiot. I have studied Economics (one of my Professors was an Economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Phila). The Federal Reserve system is not the US Central bank (other than to those who subscribe to the conspiracy theories, which you obviously believe) The system works similar to a Central Bank, but it is not.

  • Yes!

  • @ ms mufasa. Its about the civil war. N this is the best version ive ever heard of it

  • loving this...

  • Sorry: please!!

  • No flag, pease!!!

  • Nice to see this tune invoking a "Bit `o harmless banter" Ye all shoulda stayed part of the British Empire ! We needed those taxes man ! We still had to pay for all those wars that made us the biggest empire in history ! The sun never set on our Empire ! Peace Ye`All !!

  • Whats this song about, I've always liked it but never understood what it meant. Who is Dixie

  • @MsMoofasa The American Civil War.

  • I usually like Neo-folk but this is also nice

  • The Federal Reserve system is not a Central Bank; it is the Banking system we use instead of a Central Bank. It is similar but not the same thing. Our Central Bank was abolished by Andrew Jackson. History is history. Rhetoric is what you and others use to advance an alternate history that suits your purpose.

  • @Mofocadlak No dipshit, The Federal Reserve IS THE U.S. CENTRAL BANK!!! You are a moron. You have NO CLUE.... You obviously don't even know what a central bank is. Next time you come on youtube and try to make someone look like an idiot know what the hell you're talking about. Do some research and stop making yourself look stupid

  • The night they drove ol' Dixie down was night that all the poor farmers of South were duped by all the rich slave owners to support a continuation of their aristocracy. They were the 1% of that day and age. And to be fair all the poor workers of the North were duped by rich industrialists into saving the Union so that they could continue the exploitation of the continent. The only good that came of that time was Lincoln's after thought called the Emancipation Proclamation.

  • Now this was a real artist with latin american roots. Who is Shakira? Yack!

  • Old dixie down , the war in Italy against bandits (briganti) after that Savoia destroyed southern Italy very similar stories. Brenno said in 393 Ante Christum Natum Vae victis !!! Translated in English sounds losers are dead... the same old story all over the world. Tacitus told that history is written by winners.

  • Such a spiritual person & voice!

  • Love this lady and her songs. Her voice is incredible. Thanks for sharing

  • Like My grandpap says this song is the reason Bob Dylan dumped Joan Baez. He said Dylan hated this song so much he walked out the minute he heard it.

  • This has more views than the original version with The Band. Weird.

  • when i first heard this song on the radio, i cried. Kinda weird being in the car with all my teammates crying and they're yelling at me to change the station. haha

  • @rushsps250 what kind of faggots you drive around with?

  • great song for all yous americans happy new year from IRELAND folks

  • someone give me a rope and noose

  • Abraham Lincoln was by far this countries greatest president. He survived the Civil War, but couldn't survive the Rothschild's central bank. In a speech to Congress after winning the 1864 presidency Lincoln stated, " I have two great enemies, the Southern army in front of me and the financial institutions to my rear. Of the two enemies the one to my rear is my greatest foe." Lincoln started printing the "Greenback" effectively shutting out the Rothschild's central bank. That's why Lincoln died

  • @jaydog7575 Few people know this; thanks for posting it. The truth shall set us free someday.

  • @HickysBoy Nobody knows it, because it is total bs, The Central Bank issue that dingbat jaydof is referring to was dealt with by Andrew Jackson. The financial institutions Lincoln refers to is the not a Central US Bank because there was none by then. And the Rothchilds were not involved in the US banking system. His spoutings are common neo-nazi/new world order/kkk/etc racist ramblings that are not routed in any real historic records.

  • @Mofocadlak Soooo..... What you're saying is there is no central bank in America??? Alexander Hamilton was Nathan Rothschild's inside man in the colonies. That's the reason he's the only NON PRESIDENT on U.S. currency. Don't comment on shit if you don't know the truth. Andrew Jackson tried to end the Rothschild central bank and an assassination attempt on him failed because the gun misfired. The war of 1812 started because Jackson refused to renew the Rothschild's central bank charter. SMH

  • @jaydog7575 Yes, that is what I am saying because it is the truth. I guess you think Ben Franklin was a President (that goes to show your utter lack of 'real' history knowledge, along with the FACT that there have been many non Presidents on US Currency, such as Sacagawea, Salmon Chase, Daniel Webster, Louis and Clark, John Knox, Michael Hilligas,.....about 5 or so more). Jackson did not try, he did end the US Central Bank. The Jackson assasination attempt had nothing to do with the Rothschil

  • @Mofocadlak You're telling me the United States doesn't have a central bank. You're the "dingbat" dude. What the fuck do you think the Federal Reserve is, it's the United States CENTRAL BANK!!!!! You OBVIOUSLY don't have a clue what a central bank is or what you're talking about. I forgot about Franklin on the 100 dollar bill. That's beside the point, you are fucking clueless as to what's going on in the world if you don't think this country has a central bank. Later dingbat

  • @Mofocadlak To say that Abraham Lincoln didn't shut out the Rothschild's central bank by printing the greenback is wrong. You're correct that Jackson did shut down the second bank of the United States in 1833. The Rothschild's were responsible for the Civil War with a "divide and conquer" situation so that the North would become a British colony and annexed to Canada under the control of Lionel Rothschild and the South given to Napoleon III of France under the control of James Rothschild...

  • @Mofocadlak LIncoln asked Congress to borrow $450 million from the American public in 1863 by selling bonds (or greenbacks) which became full legal tender in 1879. Lincoln DID shut out the Rothschid's central bank and he was murdered by John Wilkes Boothe who was a member of the Knights of the Golden Circle. The U.S. didn't have another central bank until 1913 when the Rockefellers, Warburgs etc... promised Woodrow Wilson the 1912 presidency in exchange for the set up of the Federal Reserve

  • @Mofocadlak And finally, Andrew Jackson himself later said he knew the Rothschild's were responsible for his assassination attempt in 1835..... research it. Don't come on here and call me a "racist" you don't know me. You come with half truths and talk about someones "lack of real history knowledge." Good luck when the economy collapses later this yr, dude. Since i'm just a "conspiracy theorist." You're clueless....

  • @jaydog7575 i think you are well versed on the real history of america

  • @stain22 Thank you..... According to Mr. "Mofocadlac" i'm just a racist conspiracy theorist.

  • @Mofocadlak yo dipshit.... you ever see a $100 bill?? In what stoned universe do you exist. Grover Cleveland was on the $500, oh yeah you douchebag, Salmon Chase was on the $1000 bill and like Hamilton, was a sec'y of the Tres.

  • @ldlitton I think you meant to reply to @jaydog7575. He's the crazy racist conspiracy theory guy who thinks the Rothchilds are running our Country.

  • @HickysBoy Don't listen to the idiot Mofocadlak that refutes what i said. Jackson did try to terminate the Rothschilds central bank and someone tried to murder him but the gun misfired. Nathan Rothschild said in 1811, " Either the American colonies renew Englands central banking charter or they will find themselves in a most disastrous war." That's why the war of 1812 was fought. Over the Rothschild's central bank. They've funded both sides of every war since the French Revolution. Peace...

  • my grandfather was in the waffen ss im proud but ashamed me i would have deserted and im a former marine

  • Anyone else disturbed by the fact that the KKK-song is listed under "related videos"?

  • I like her version, but she gets the second verse wrong. It should be "Till Stoneman's cavalry came..."

  • Lee told his men that the North had been very fair and generous in victory and to go home, plant crops and become once again good, loyal Americans. Enough said.

  • The Civil War was about 150 years ago. If Robert El Lee could get over it and once again be a good citizen, how 'bout the rest of them thar rebels?

  • Just Good...

  • @thehistorywatcher Was your great-grandfather one of the soldiers that burned the Confederate grave markers at Marietta and left my grandfather's uncle in an unmarked grave. Was he one of the yankees that took all of the food my great-great-grandfather had and then killed all of the livestock after burning the barn? IT WAS WAR and war is not pretty there were many atrocities committed by both sides. ALWAYS remember this: "The victor gets to write the history books."

  • @Farm1486 The South started an armed resurrection against our Country. That's treason any way you look at it. The US was very generous and gracious to let them back as shown by the terms they offered. The history has been more than generous to the South because many of our historians are from the South, your comment makes no sense if you know how history has treated the South.

  • @Mofocadlak Why did we fire on Ft Sumpter (the first shot)? Look at economic history.

Treason - yeah, this country was founded on treason, remember reading about King George? Generosity - from the victor's point of view it was. When my G-G-GF lost everything to the occupying army and then became a guerrilla fighter and his oldest son was in an unmarked grave in Meritta we were supposed to be happy/glad? In no way can slavery be defended but what happened to slaves in the North?

  • @Farm1486 Yes, we did commit treason against England. Yes, the South did commit treason against the US. I don't care about England, I am American (and therefore care about the US only). Slavery was over in the North by that time. You are clutching at straws. We are all Americans again, just don't try to make the South out to be the victim in any of this.

  • This conservative fought in Vietnam. Close combat too. It's ok brother, Cat Lai, south of Saigon. Can't get any closer than that. I only had 14 days left on my "short" calendar when I took a bullet in my lower back. I've been disabled ever since. I have 3 lower lumbar replaced with tungsten alloy metal. I can sure feel it when it gets cold out. That was my second tour "over there". I was 19 years old. PTSD from losing 7 of my men in one firefight. I wished to God that I would have died there.

  • My great-grandfather was with the 3rd Indiana Cavalry from 1861 through 1864. He was at Chancellorsville, Antietam, Brandy Station, Gettysburg, Yellow Tavern and the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren raid on Richmond. He really did help drive old Dixie down.

  • this is a beautiful song..I cannot believe the profanities posted here. Lighten up what on earth is wrong with some people..we are all human.

  • All the bullshit about politics and religion and etc;

It's about the beauty of the goddamn song. It has nothing to do with some kind of propaganda unless you were alive during the 1850's. And this is a beautiful song that moves me to tears every day without any sort of political agenda. The way music should be.

  • In Tears. For many reasons.

  • I think in those days they used Styrofoam crowds.

  • One of my favourite songs! fantastic voice as always! 5* :)

  • I think this was the first Joan Baez single I bought. I then started buying her albums. A great performer, whatever your political persuasion

  • this song was huge here in australia. you tube i am back in my glory with your very rich histiry of music.

  • some college band in missouri played this song and big woop-they got complaints-so what they lost the war-got their asses stomped on.if texas or any other state wants conferate plates go for it-they lost the war-losers-who cares-

  • YO AMERICANS, WE, THE DUTCH from HOLLAND, GAVE YOU GAY-MARRIAGE, HAHAHAHA

  • @yamijanakaratoprak Gay marriage isn't legal in the US, it's only legal in a handfull of states.

  • @jmv420able1 selfhumiliating gay homosexuals fucking each other up the ass are now legal in the armed forces of the US; kinda gives a whole new meaning to the combat phrase: "I've got your back, buddy" , hahaha - Face it Yankee, youre black president gave you GAY-MARRIAGE, freshly imported from HOLLAND, hahahaha

  • @yamijanakaratoprak Man, screw you. Because we're gay we can't love our country and this song? We love and serve our country as any proud man of this nation should. Don't make light of the sacrifices other people have made before you just because they had a different system of belief or different sexual preferences. America is the greatest country on Earth in spite of men like you, not because of it.

  • @Tydraad You cant even protect your own ass hole from being sodomized with infectious Aids, you faggot homosexual!!

  • @yamijanakaratoprak You sound like a closet case with issues.

  • @bracken1000 You sound like a raped woman who secretly yearns for her rapist to come back and fuck her up the ass, you faggot homosexual!!! failed wannabe woman without a natural hole

  • @yamijanakaratoprak

I will shoot you if you would present yourself to me.

  • @jmv420able1 And it should be in all. We protect your freedoms as if you were among us, although I realize you are not. I hope you take some sort of comfort in our love of our country and freedom in general. Every day we fight to protect it alongside every other man or woman in our armed services.

  • @Tydraad Its not a freedom to humiliate a grown man up the ass by fucking him in his shithole; its the stuff animals are made of!! You dont represent anybody, you selfhumiliating deviant abomination of nature!!!!

  • I took a rebel stand

    Oh he was just eighteen

Proud and brave but a yankee laid him in his grave

  • im just here to say that dixie is still here

  • nar nar nar nana nar nar nar

  • im with you , just want to listen to a great song being performed by a great singer , if i want politics i 'll watch the news but that not what im here for , so people get off the soapbox and turn up the volume

  • Just have to point out that Robert E. Lee was a slavery abolitionist and Westpoint's most accomplished soldier. He joined the Confederate army , with a heavy heart, out of patriotism, like it or not. He was more outspoken than Lincoln on the issue of slavery, prior to Gettysburg. Patriotism is "the last refuge of the scoundrel", but not neccessarily so.

  • Let's all murder more babies then. In the meantime, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC.

AND....STOP USING MORE THAN YOUR FAIR SHARE OF THE EARTHS RESOURCES.

Could be the best song ever.

  • a vote for demorcrats is to murder babies

  • @ksmith1950 fucking republicans.....

  • the liberals murder babies. they call it abortion. i would hate to be in there shoesb on judgement

  • The camera work and direction is brilliant! Unfortunately in the UK they have a habit of showing an 'arty' shot of the guitarists mouth or face therefore missing the whole point of the guitar itself...

  • great song -- it was the unofficial song for game with our cross town football rivals -- Robert E. Lee High School

  • @Yizlanu Robert E. Lee, now there a name that should be wiped from history. every time I hear it I think "KKK", stinking rotten worthless bastard. The really funny part is that I'm white. Quick! get me some sharmen, I just took a huge robertelee.

  • @MrFrogmasterG ok I want to make it clear --- I'm not pro KKK -- ok ? --- and I'm against everything it stands for -- and I'm whilte and southern -- so now that we've got that out in the open -- have you even read Southern history ? -- originally the KKK was organized as a retaliation against the Northern carpetbaggers - and NOT founded by Robert E Lee -- one of his generals, yes -- but not him ....... and yes it got hijacked by some horrible a... who were psychos

  • @Yizlanu And disbanded by Gen , Forrest , Re-stared by some fake preacher in the 1920s whom made it raciest issue!

  • @mobilechief exactly ........ helps to read history

  • @Yizlanu and Democrat too...don't forget ^o^

  • @zhexyc You stated above that all offensive comments would be removed. You need to get busy brother. You got a lot of work ahead of you.

  • why is nobody joinin the nannnnannanaan????

  • Beautiful :)

  • comparing the old south to nazi germany is ridiculous....slaves lived better than most of the "free immigrants" in the north's industrial factories who died of untreatable cancers, lost limbs and exhaustion in their 30's....no rebel general or even jeff davis advocated genocide of blacks to the last child...anyway arguing about stuff that happened 150 years ago is pointless...shut up and enjoy the music...its good but i like johnny cash's version better

  • @OldSkoolThrasher666 being a slave is not comparable to a poor migrant. try to imagine being born, existing, and dying at the will of some master who decides your fate. plenty of migrants have made the decision to undergo brutal conditions for possibility at a better life based on their own hard work. a slave doesn't even have that choice. it's a fallacy and an unfair one to compare these things. also, 150 or 550 years, the repercussions live on, therefore it ain't pointless to forget about it

  • @elevatorisland silly child, open your eyes the lawyers and whors in dc have made all of us into just that, slaves. you think your free? Think again.

  • @MrFrogmasterG now you're talking about something else dude. I was just saying that tough lives that migrants face and systematic slavery are two different things and should be treated as such. I don't know why you have a hang up about blacks and don't wanna acknowledge what they went through. I don't really care. you are right about the political elite enslaving the working class. I still don't think I'd compare my life with the black slavery experience. in fact, I don't even live in the us now

  • I see why WE are not as great as WE were it's a lack of RESPECT for EACH others believe YOU DON'T have to be so DISRESPECTFUL TO EACH OTHER . Everyone PLAYS the HAND that they are DEALT

  • THE BAND does a better version of this song.

  • She's got nothing on Levon Helm. Nothing.

  • Oh Yuck, i dont like this

  • Quit shitting on about the military and how hard they have it. Any fucker can shoot at anyone else, it's no honor or anything.

  • @ohyeah106 lets see you have to deal with killing someone else...believe it or not some people in the army do have hearts.

  • idont understand. daniel brou.

  • Dear Nevesdarocha, I feel for you, but I think until lyrics about war and it's useless end product, ie death and destruction are passed on to the next generation, then we have failed horribly! For me this song tells it all, hopeless and wasteful ambitions, all because people did not understand what they were fighting for in the first place! Best Wishes Zapata935

  • The bands performance on this song in the last waltz is so much better that you can't tell by words

  • daniel brou this

  • Today's American military is nothing more than a bully. No other country has bases in as many foreign nations. No other countries military budget even comes close to ours. In fact, our military budget is equal to that of EVERY OTHER country in the world.

This forced respect for the military is ridiculous. No one who is alive today fought to keep me free. I don't need to thank some kid who joined for 2 years and served in a war our people didn't even get a choice in participating in.

  • This song was 40 years ago no.10 in the world charts #joan #baez

  • brilliant

  • If you can't put politics aside for 3 minutes and listen to this woman's incredible voice, piss off. And I'm a conservative, btw.

  • O so much for we were born in the land of cotton....

Hands the Republican a box of Marbles , grins

    Signed by an Independant

  • Pick up a guitar and protest! All you liberals should have participated in Jonestown with Jim Jones. Drink up!

  • @USAisAntiWhite - You don't believe in the Constitution and First Amendment then? You would doubtless have been happier if the Framers had left out the parts about free speech, the right to peaceably assemble, to petition for redress of grievances, etc. What a bunch of damned liberal radical commie leftist whackos they must have been, eh? Tell me, did you serve in the military (esp. close personal ground combat)? This liberal did. You're welcome.

  • @celt1745 we hear politics 24 hrs. a day. this lady can sing thats why im here screw politics

  • @mrwarmth100 Dude some can Politics and a beautiful song.

  • @mrwarmth100 Hell yeah !!! Screw them

  • @celt1745 I was military...US Army. I took an oath to defend against foreign and DOMESTIC enemies. Now I know how naive I was. They paid us with FIAT, worthless paper currency backed by nothing. US Constitution...Artilce 1 Section 10 NO STATE SHALL MAKE ANY THING BUT GOLD AND SILVER COIN A LEGAL TENDER IN PAYMENT OF DEBT.... If the military respects their OATH, march on Washington and demand a lawful money system for the STATES. That will end the deficit.

  • @Brandy13231 That's a fanciful notion at best.

  • @celt1745 - thanks from another vet whose seen enough for a lifetime. Peace, brother.

  • @USAisAntiWhite It's galling that you fat "conservatives" condemn the occupy wallstreet effort but often laud the teaparty when the 2 could've really come together and had an impact. Keep watching that Faux "news" and please do not procreate if you haven't already.

  • Great !

  • Love it. Thanks so much zhexyc.

  • Joan Baez is a brilliant performer

  • I saw Joan Baez live in the mid 1970's. One of the finest talents in the world!

  • Is she talking about the winter of 1865?Dixie = The old South :D ?

  • I learnt so much from this song .... defeat doesn't mean disgrace.

  • BOYCOTT HIGH MOVIE PRICES

  • this is fantastic it is so refreshing to hear someone who actually has talent. i agree with the other poster after listening to this todays music is just noise

  • Joan Baez Played At My Local Library In A Small Hall A Few Years Ago In The UK To A Very Small Intimate Audience And I Never Knew She Was Playing There Until After The Event And I Was So Sad I Missed Her, In Fact I Was Pissed Off BIG TME! My Local Library Is About 100 Yards From My House Now That's What I Call Bad Luck :-(

  • @ninjabluewings Well don't give up. check her web page. she is all over the UK in February and March 2012, Maybe your library will be an unlisted performance

  • @browsguy Hmmmm......An Interesting Thought Thanks :-)

  • Comment removed

  • There must be Republicans in the crowd. A lot of them.

  • Comment removed

  • I guess the crowd was just stupid for not doing what she wanted.

  • Großartige glasklare Stimme , da können sich die heutigen Sängerinnen mal eine Scheibe abschneiden

  • Thank you for this !!! :)

  • how the fuck do you listen to music today, after hearing this !! shit, do i miss does years.....

  • @CNdeF4ever Ditto!

  • AUDIENCE, Y U NO SING WITH HER?/ I assumed that's what she was asking them to do...

  • who believes her her political views are misguided she was spot on about operation linebacker and rolling thunder!

  • She is an excellent singer. However, I don't see the morality in romaticising the the south, home of slavery. Maybe someone should write a romantic song about the day Hitler took his life and ole Nazi Germany fell. The south was evil, beating the shit out of black people, making them do the work. How could these southerners sleep at night after lynching some black dude tha that they couldn't break? Then, the whites when to church and prayed to Jesus.

  • @JayGatsbyOdysseus No truer words have ever been spoken. Old Dixie needed to be driven down in the name of Freedom for all men and women. No disrespect meant to Joan Baez though. I agree as well, that the white man in the past, just as today, commits His acts of malfeasance towards other men under the guise of Christianity.

  • @JayGatsbyOdysseus Blacks were not just abused and enslaved in the south. Most slaves orriginated in Africa and were sold by their own tribes men for guns to fight other tribes to enslave more people. anywhere there was land to grow and sell food, tobaco or cotin there were slaves. The north had them too. and treated them just as bad as they were treated anywhere else. This song was written by Levon Helm of The Band and was the only member from the south and was just stating how he felt

  • @willbar11 Yes, there has been slavery all over the world. I agree. However, I do not know about there being slaves in the north. I have heard this claim often. I wonder why there would then people hiding slaves in the underground railroad so they could make it north of the Ohio River. Also, why would the state of Missouri be split along the Mason/Dixon Line, south of it slave, north of it free. I am sure there are Germans over in Germany that dream about their Utopian Third Riech. Sick.

  • @JayGatsbyOdysseus You are correct I am not for slavery in any way and I am a proud southerner but I do not believe that the south can be compared to the third reich because the nazis truly believed that killing Jews was the best thing. Southerners did not kill blacks because they thought they were inferior.even though whights considered them selves as a high
