Gads... TONY do this tune "You Make Feel SOOO YOUNG" and thanks for being you. Keep playing cuz I'll be listening and if any of you kids are reading this here's my advice. LISTEN to Tony's stuff. You'll learn a wealth of what it is and what it should be. AMEN
Got it together man... Lot's a styles.. Little bit of the Count's licks, sorta ala Bucci. Yeah Joey's alright and Smith is Smith, etc.. etc.. but I like your musical attitude. You got lot's a guys stuff. Hell, I thought I even heard Grooves (bless his X77 heart). So after 50 years of whackin B3's I think I give you my vote. That's cuz you swing.
this old man just puttin in his 2 cents worth and for my money, your respect for the past and preservation should keep your name up there in the roles of B3 Sainthood. We might forget your name someday but your kickin will last forever. Frankly, I'd like to buy you a drink.
But best of all you have FUN,,,, And yeah, sure there's wholetones and ringtones nowadays but in the day as he said "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing" Ha ha hehehe,,,,, YOU MAKE ME SMILE... Kinda like Kramer... Bless your kickin butt. LOVE YOUR ATTITUDE, YOUR PERCEPTION OF WHAT IT IS, IS WHAT IT IS....
Oh and for that jbower comment : I'm suprised you kids even remember Rhoda. I caught her once in the early 60's with Dionne Warwick and Cissy Houston singin backups. That's when the B3 scene was just taking a turn and Smith hadn't redefined things yet.| Guys like Eroll were setting the pace and we were all Ebb Tide-ing and Stormy Weathering out of our gourds every night. Mostly I was playing for the strippers in those days and Tony's stuff is it. The girls would have loved ya man.....|
I just saw Tony in Philadelphia with Pat Martino. He was terrific and I really think Pat had a great time playing with him. There didn't seem to be a lot of bickering, if any at all. It was worth the money.

Hey, he IS playing bass with his left foot. His left hand just accents the bass notes. You can hear the bass when he is not playing with his left hand (check it out at 3:29). In my opinion, what he is doing is not only giving a lot more swing to the piece, but is actually more complicated than playing bass with your left foot and chord-comping with your left hand, which is what most organists do.
Ugh. Why do so few people understand what hammond players almost *always* do. That is, play the bassline with their left hand and loosely (or tightly follow depending on how skilled and/or tired their foot may be) follow with their foot on the pedals accenting certain notes. They also often use their foot to take over for a short amount of time while they use their left hand for preset changes or comping. Barbara Dennerlein and Rhoda Scott are a couple of exceptions to this.
@jbowers56 Or even stick to 1 note merely to provide a percussive attack like on a string bass. Though I've read that many players do use the pedals on ballads.
I'm in cowtown...been watching Tony for years. He can run a goddamn marathon with his left foot...may someone will catch him in the act - ill have to say what represents him online is merely 10% of what he is capable of....
Recently I have seen Tony play in a bar that books punk and heavy metal acts..almost all 20 somethings and college students...these kids are captivated - and he just got off tour with Pat Martino and Harvey Mason! No one is wasting there time watching Tony...
Tony will be playing in Edinburgh, Scotland next weekend 24 & 25 September 06' at the Jazz Bar Chambers Street. Can't wait!...he is going to teach my B3 how to be a B3!!!!

What determines whether you play bass with the left hand or pedals?
MoGreensEye 2 years ago
1. Your ability to play Bass pedals. If you're like Barbara Denneriline, you should play pedals.
2. You may or may not have bass pedals. If you're playing a Nord or some clone more than lilkley not.
3. Sound. The bass pedals are very dual with no substain. Using the lower manuel has more drawbars to soften the tone a bit.

great BUT something weird going on in the video itself, at 0:13-0:17 for example, there hands just jump around as it parts of the video were missing

Some guys are so good it makes you think
"why do I even play?"
I know he pays alot of homage to Jimmy Smith, but Tony is the man in his own right.
He might have been inspired by Jimmy, but the talent is all his own....

You play the bass with it. Tony is not doing it here. If you wanna see somebody who does the bass-foot-pedals thingy you should check op Rhoda Scott.
