I must confess to the sin of describing Nausicaa as "Dune in Japan". I love both movies, and as original as Nausicaa is, being Ghibli, the Dune influence (probably the novel rather than the Lynch movie) was obvious to me.
One is considered a masterpiece and one is considered a failure by critics, what do you think or considered Showgirls in space? Roger Ebert called Nausicaa a masterpiece while he called Dune a real ugly mess with one of the most confusing screenplays of all time. If i get an adobe movie-maker i'll merge Avatar trailer to Dune since they are the same thing.
@Johnlindsey289 Yes, i know, but David Lynch's Dune is a very underrated and misunderstood film that has had a loyal cult following since it's release. Now Battlefield Earth is a true failure and a genuine ugly mess of a movie, as far as i'm concerned, and i think i would probably much prefer to see Showgirls in space than that complete train wreck of a movie ever again. lol.
But i do have mixed feelings on Lynch's movie and the first mini-series despite i adore Children of Dune, i can't wait for the new movie to get it right. Cameron doesn't hate this movie he just has mixed feelings even when i wrote a letter to him if he was inspired by Dune novels for Avatar he quoted "I am mixed on Lynch's Dune movie as it's good as a Lynch movie but bad as a Dune movie despite i do respect Lynch for being a good director" and he's a fan of the director.
@Johnlindsey289 Well, then Cameron and i both feel exactly the same way about it then. Yes,i will admit that it is vastly inferior when compared to the novel, but completely on it's own it really is quite a good film, even if Lynch himself despises and disowns it. It helps to just think of it as a very unique interpretation by an equally gifted artist with completely different sensibilities. You see i view the novel and film as two completely separate entities that are both deserving of respect.
Ridley Scott and Alejandro Jorowosky were the original contenders for Dune did you know that? now Scott should do the new Dune movie since he cares about the material and even loves it. But what do you think of a fake Dune trailer set to Avatar with the Dune trailer audio? i mean they are alike since Cameron adores the novel since he was a teenager. But Lynch got away with some stuff like the heartplugs etc. but made better movies like Blue Velvet. But Cool that Cameron is Lynch fan
@Johnlindsey289 Oh, i agree that Lynch has made far better films than Dune and Blue Velvet is certainly one of them, and maybe he did go a bit overboard with a few things such as the heartplugs but,as i stated,it was just one artist's completely different interpretation of another artist's original work. I think a fake Dune trailer set to Avatar with the Dune trailer audio over it would be awesome and i think Cameron rocks for being a fan because Lynch's bizarre films really aren't for everyone.
Did you ever watched the New World Warriors of the Wind cut like i did as a kid? i did when i was 5 years old and loved it then when i was 16 after watching an uncut fansub video at my high school's anime club and i realized that the movie i grew up with was a bad hatchet job despite good voice actors like Cam Clarke and Hal Smith but i did taped the uncut fansub video and also owned Warriors since i was 10 but now there is a better version on DVD that i'm satisfied with.
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, i rented Warriors of the Wind at a local video store when i was a teen and liked it a lot. The original, unbutchered version blew it completely out of the water though.
Very nice, Dune and Nausicaa are alike. Now how about a Dune-Avatar parody trailer since Dune is the same as Avatar or maybe a Nausicaa-Avatar parody.
