I have always loved Jennifer Knapp even before I found out about her sexuality!! Will this change that, absolutely NOT!!! I love when Jennifer asked, "Where did I go?" and the pastor replies, "Well you were in Australia..." After, Jennifer laughingly asks, "Because I wasn't in your church?" The problem with people like this pastor is that they believe only their church really understands the Word of God... that the world should aspire to be like them. Not for one moment do they imagine the struggles that thoughtful people like Jennifer may be dealing with. Their response is not not "tough love" - it's hate.
I think this is just an argument based around the premise the Christian/Judeo God does exist without a question. It's more about whether it truly says in the Bible whether homosexuality is a sin or not. It is hard because the Bible is unclear and it is more vague and homosexuality is different now that it was represented in the Bible. I mean, she is in a committed, loving relationship. How is that truly different from a heterosexual marriage? I really can't think of any.

I think they're missing a big part of the argument. There are two different topics. The homosexual tendency and the homosexual relationship. I don't know of any Christian (although I'm sure they exist) that says that just because you're attracted to a person you are sinning. The question is what does the Bible say about having a homosexual relationship. I wish it were black and white. It is however black and white on the love and grace of God. Let's focus on that.

I almost lost a family member over this topic. My brother grew up under the thumb of a fundamental church and felt so bad about his true self that he tried to commit suicide. Pastor Bob is a contributor to the unbelievable amount shame placed upon the homosexual community.
Jennifer Knapp will be an inspiration to many gay teenagers who are so wrapped up in self-hatred they are contemplating suicide. She is saving lives simply by being brave enough to honest.

i just cant understand the people who say they have faith in a God who is about love but twist the word to condemn people that they just dont understand. I feel that we need to look at the relationships with our fellow man, whether straight or gay with an outlook of love, cause ultimately we share that human connection with our creator. The real problem with this issue is firstly when they throw around the word homosexual as if the word was invented at biblical times, most verses people quote against homosexuals are actually about the behavior and not about the attraction. We need to study the roots of the terms and the cultural meaning of it when it was spoken, We do this with other verses, why haven't we done this with the word Homosexual? it wasnt invented in bible times so our meaning may be off from what the bible says.

@ramses86 What about when God told Abraham he was going to destroy Sodom and Abraham said if you can find 50 good people will you not destroy it, he then negotiates it all the way down to 10 good people. Had Abraham not given up he could have gone all the way to one person. God was resolute on destroying it, and in the end he did because Abraham gave up on negotiations. However, this shows God's willingness to change his mind.
Also, he told Abraham to sacrifice Issac but then changed his mind.

She has always been in God's family, she never abandoned God's family. The real issue is can one be Christian and gay? When words like lifestyle are used there is a preconieved idea of what it means to be gay and typically it is of two men note men having sex. For people who have not attractions that way this is disgusting but belays the fact of attraction. What Pastor Bob and others are saying to me and others is that as a Christian gay man I can not love another man because in essence it is not love but lust, which is not based on truth but their interpretation.

With the suicide rate being so high amongst gay youth, I'm sure, in some cases, this struggle between Christianity and Homosexuality is a root cause. No Ted Haggard wasn't always that way, but look at where his journey has brought him. At least from this interview it seems to have brought him to a greater place of love which is all we can ask. Thanks for posting the whole interview. I'm very glad to have had the chance to watch it in entirety. This particular medium - tv interview banter - is not a good forum for the topic, unfortunately. Nobody was able to state their case well, and nobody was really heard. With the primary emphasis remaining on who is right and who is wrong it certainly doesn't make "faith" very appealing.
If she Genuinley has placed her faith in christ then she is Going to heaven. all though i dont agree with her choice of life style, i dont think she is anyless of a christian. i dont think she is being an immitator of god, and not being a light to others either....but i do believe that if she genuinley placed her faith in god then she IS going to heaven, without a question.

I think this is just an argument based around the premise the Christian/Judeo God does exist without a question. It's more about whether it truly says in the Bible whether homosexuality is a sin or not. It is hard because the Bible is unclear and it is more vague and homosexuality is different now that it was represented in the Bible. I mean, she is in a committed, loving relationship. I think they're missing a big part of the argument. There are two different topics. The homosexual tendency and the homosexual relationship. I don't know of any Christian (although I'm sure they exist) that says that just because you're attracted to a person you are sinning. The question is what does the Bible say about having a homosexual relationship. I wish it were black and white. It is however black and white on the love and grace of God. Let's focus on that.

Had Abraham not given up he could have gone all the way to one person. God was resolute on destroying it, and in the end he did because Abraham gave up on negotiations. How silly, "can you be both gay and a Christian?". Why are these two concepts mutually exclusive in so many minds? Homosexuality is based more firmly in genetics than whimsy.

the parameters are OLD testament! there was no grace in the old testament, that's why they had the parameters. but in the new testament we have grace & love & guidlines to help us live out those 2 things

Haggard seems to wanna sit on the fence, totally...strikes me as cowardly and loses my respect altogether. And who is he to point his finger and say how "Jesus warns religious people very strongly..." when he was THE leader of the so-called evangelical church who only came out when he was caught with a male prostitute? Total coward in my book.

I appreciate Bob Botsford's effort to stand up for God's truth yet he's not very articulate, and doesn't demonstrate wisdom since he doesn't acknowledge the struggles that she's gone through.
Larry King should have invited people who are more knowledgable and articulate in presenting the gospel. I wish the conversation could be more interesting.

Jennifer Knapp is the best in presenting arguments out of the three. She is articulate and comes across as genuine.
I worry about the state of the pulpit after watching this video.
I can't stand the wishy-washy standpoint of Ted Haggard, that God-is-love and we-are-all-sinful and get away from the seriousness of sin. He is just trying to please everyone and play the good guy. I have no respect for him just from what he's saying, not for his past wrongs.

Its hard to agree or disagree but it is clear she is a lover of the Lord and she is working it out. Jennifers music has gotten me through many hard times and I will always love her for that and will continue to be a fan!

Thanks for the video. I was glad someone posted it. I'm glad that Jennifer came out and can be an example of someone who is both gay and christian. I'm also glad that she was able to handle this debate with such class.

@SuchIsLifeVideos I know, and I am sure he is not "cured". He chooses not to let his emotions out. He has a very hard high price to pay if he truly lives to what he wants, so he will be happily frustrated pleasing others with his stand on pretending he doesn't like men. But anyway, he was pretty impressive in that interview. May God keep on blessing and giving him more courage and strength to the future!

She has always been in God's family, she never abandoned God's family. She is a Christian and the Lord is blessing her and using her to help so many in personal crisis due to their natural sexualities. Lay off the Legalism Pr. Bob! Love more! Do your teaching to your congregation, let Jennifer and other be touched by God, the way they have been inspired, not with your gifts Pr. Bob.God uses other holy men and women to deliver His message to ears that will hear the way that He wants them to hear.

The real issue is can one be Christian and gay? When words like lifestyle are used there is a preconieved idea of what it means to be gay and typically it is of two men note men having sex. For people who have not attractions that way this is disgusting but belays the fact of attraction. What Pastor Bob and others are saying to me and others is that as a Christian gay man I can not love another man because in essence it is not love but lust, which is not based on truth but their interpretation.

I am gay and I am a Christian. I came to know Jesus before I knew I was gay. My relationship with God runs deeper than my sexuality. God has a plan for gay people who choose to follow Him. With the suicide rate being so high amongst gay youth, I'm sure, in some cases, this struggle between Christianity and Homosexuality is a root cause. Why can't we breathe life into something, instead of cursing it? 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

does anyone jointly believe in psychology and the studies we as humans have proven as well as scripture? Does anyone know that gay youths have very high tendencies to kill and cut themselves and use drugs(personal experience but I'm still alive) due to the types of attitudes botsford perpetuates? Check out OTEP'S song emtee if you want to feel what we as young gay christians feel everyday when these stances are taken

I am so amazed by the grace of God in Teds life! So encouraging to see someones heart so changed. I want to add that I am pretty sure Ted agrees with Bobs view in regards to homosexuality. On that same note... he understand grace... and this makes it all so much sweeter to see.... Bob exploiting someone elses sin to his congregation is simply not Christian....

Bob criticizes Ted's comment by saying at 1:47 "what it gives way for is truth that is relative", yet in part 3/4, he says at 9:10 "although there are verses in the book of Leviticus that say don't eat shellfish...god changed his mind on shellfish"

I found this debate quite frightning....There is something to be said about outlawing religious education until someone turns 13 years of age...then you wouldn't have such obvious cases of manic brainwashing as these three... what a meaningless debate between people that just don't get it....Bring on Richard Dawkins and Chrispher Hichens for some sanity!!!!!!

This pastor is the biggest joke I have seen in my life... "god changed his mind about shellfish" - that is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard. How can these people not FOR ONCE consider that all those words are 100s and thousands of years old... how can you not adapt to life's process, life is all about CHANGE, nature demonstrates that, life does and these people wanna stand still on "facts" and always only decide on facts? FEELINGS are the language of the soul and a direct link to God.

No Ted Haggard wasn't always that way, but look at where his journey has brought him. At least from this interview it seems to have brought him to a greater place of love which is all we can ask. I say that if a greedy tax collector can become a disciple, if a Roman soldier can become martyr, then Ted Haggard can grow as well. I just which that Bob Botsfard would listen to him and that he would abide by Jennifer Knapp wishes and not use her as an example for anything "bad" or "sinful".

Thanks for posting the whole interview. I'm very glad to have had the chance to watch it in entirety. This particular medium - tv interview banter - is not a good forum for the topic, unfortunately. Nobody was able to state their case well, and nobody was really heard. With the primary emphasis remaining on who is right and who is wrong it certainly doesn't make "faith" very appealing.

If she Genuinley has placed her faith in christ then she is Going to heaven. all though i dont agree with her choice of life style, i dont think she is anyless of a christian. i dont think she is being an immitator of god, and not being a light to others either....but i do believe that if she genuinley placed her faith in god then she IS going to heaven, without a question.

But yes, also, all sins are the same so to say that she cannot be a christian and also be homosexual is not accurate. sin doesnt effect our salvation, because he died in place of our sins so we can HAVE the gift of salvation.

i have to say ted quite surprised me. i still don't agree with the idea that a homosexual can be "cured," and i hope that he finds it within himself to accept who he is, but it is extremely refreshing to hear him refuse to judge either of them.

@muffility12 It actually bugged me a little how tolerant Ted Haggard was during the interview. Not in the sense of he's right or wrong for believing one way or another, but more along the lines that I just wanted to take a stand. Sheesh, grow a backbone, Ted. He kept saying, "Jennifer is right in this; the pastor is right in that." And fair enough, both argued legitimate points at times. I don't care where Haggard personally stands on the issue at the moment, I just wanted him to take a stand.

I think it is absolutely possible to be a Christian and be gay. The basic idea of Christianity is that we are ALL incarnations of God. Also, homosexuality occurs naturally in other species... for example, black geese and dolphins.

Everyone sins. My sin is not any better or worse than someone elses. I agree with Haggard. He isn't agreeing or disagreeing. He is just saying don't judge and love everyone. Don't use the scripture to point the finger at someone else bc we r all sinners. I am a christian, and I think if u are gay that is between u and God. . We are not the ones to say u r wrong or right. He still loves you so much. I have gay friends and I except their sexuality-just like they except mine.

@SuchIsLifeVideos , well thats his choice and we have to respect that. There's a long history with his wife and kids... and if it makes him happy then thats what counts. He only needs to justify to himself & with GOD. I used to hate him cuz he was a gay basher like the other pastor, but he stood up to him and that was fantastic.
