1st off-Roky's amazing-words can't say how talented he is, and if the world was fair, things'd be better for him. I feel that way 100%! BTW, can we name all of the films these clips are from? I'll name the ones I know, and some I'll guess - feel free to correct me) starting at 1:43 (Nosferatu) 1:47 (?) 1:49 (Bride of Frankenstein) 1:52 (?) 1:54 (Creature From The Black Lagoon) 1:57 (?) 1:59 (Frankenstein) 2:01 (Wolfman) 2:03 (Mummy) 2:05 (?) 2:06 (War Of The Worlds) 2:08 (?) 2:09 (?) 2:11 (?)
Waller Colley was the bassist for The Explosives. Saw them often at The Crossroads in Nacogdoches, Tx - 1981-83ish.....great party band with killer songs. There are CD's of their stuff available and Freddie is still involved in the merchandising.
austinite, not to put you off of your rocker but this is The Explosives that Roky is playing with in this video. Cam King and Freddie Krc are indeed playing once again with and supported Roky in his recent Sweden tour. The current version of The Explosives has Chris Johnson playing bass while Waller Collie was playing with The Explosives in the 1979-1982 lineup (and in this video).
This video rules! I think a true fan should get your information right though. Unless I am totally off my rocker, that is Roky Erickson and THE ALIENS! The Explosives are the band Roky is currently playing and touring Sweden with. This song rules and renews my faith in rock and roll even though I think it is overrated.
This performance is so electrified; I've watched this one repeatedly more than any other youtube clip. I can't see how anyone wouldn't be mesmerized and drawn to this; everything from the lyrics to the group effort really shines
holy crap, does this bring back some memories. That was at the Soap Creek Saloon on North Lamar. It was the first time I ever saw Roky live. I remember between sets he came over to our table. Really nice guy, just nonchalantly began telling me about some trips he had been taking with aliens on a spaceship. Then he had story about having a tail. Told us thanks for coming out, nice to meet us and he would soon be leaving on another outer world trip.
Thanks for thr eminder ... I had forgotten the bass players name. The Explosives put on good shows without Roky as well. They said they played "power pop". There was a different bass player at the show in Austin last month.
I didn't notice the first time I saw this video that Roky drops his pick but keeps singing and Cam picks it up and hands it to him like they've done it a hundred times.
And of course Cam King is a great song writer and great country picker. Good write-up in the Chronicle on this way under rated "Austin" musician. Remember "Circuit Queen" which Marcia Ball did back in the 70s (KOKE used to play); Lonestar (and Denim) covered his song "Heartbroke Everyday"; and Garth Brooks even covered a tune of his (which Ive not heard) "Baby Jesus Is Born".
but white faces is one of his best in my opinion, evocative paranoid lyrics, awesome riffs, and his vocal delivery! the version on plus one is a landmark in rock, seriously!
mind control victim. great fkn music though.
