  • Though these are amusing, I'm not sure these are stories that would blossom into fruition these days with HIPPA. The likelihood of an officer gaining access to personal information such as a patient's full name would be rare. I was given a patient's name only once, and that was because she was concerned that her ex might come while she was there and hurt her or cause trouble. I have an open line with the city Chief of Police and we ran her ex through the system to find he had no warrants.

  • @TDLAuburn Even before HIPPA rules hospitals had rules to prevent patient information being given out. But there has always been a close relationship between police/fire/ems/security/ER staff. Police would come in and just listen to what was being said. Or police would stand at the desk and look at paper work. Also police would come in and say "I was just wondering what was the ETOH level on" this guy or that guy. The HIPPA rules are very strong now and have teeth.

  • Good day to you sir ..... Good to see "Old School" Common sense in action ....

  • Michigan Contract Security Agencies who are approved by the State police have full arrest powers on there property there sworn to protect. Dont believe me look up the legistaltion

  • Do you even know all your rights? ANYONE can arrest you if you commit a misdemeanor or felony in their presence. Force can be used against you.

  • @tbsdrummer87 In FL they have written a special law that says a security officer can not make an arrest. I know it is strange but they made that law. Of course like someone commented here you can hold them for the police and then they can arrest them. Of course as soon as the security officer is off duty and not working ... like anyone else he can make a citizen's arrest. I worked security in FL for a while. In Orlando at a hospital and in Miami at a shopping center.

  • @hnbbs That's really too bad. Do FL security officers have to be state licensed individually? It doesn't make sense why they can't for such crimes, if they aren't working as a government agent, it'd make sense. But I'm sure people pressured legislature to write a bill to restrict powers and preserve individual rights. It's too bad. But again I could understand where citizens are coming from. One bad apple gives the rest a bad name.

  • rent a cops cant arrest...but they can lawfully detain you if you dont comply with orders on private property. The detain you in cuffs and wait till the cops come.......It happened to me. I did research cause i wanted to sue. But its legal. They can do it.

  • Well it depends on where you are. In Flordia a security officer can not arrest someone. In some states or cities a security officer has full police powers (such as in Kansas City, MO).

  • A rent a cop try to arrest me and I would use my right for a civilian arrest and do the same to him. Fuck any authority that tries to take away my rights and liberties.

  • Sometimes with a security officer detains a subject or arrest a subject or removes a subject or has some other contact with a person and the police show up the subject will want the police officer charged or arrested. The police will tell them to shut up or tell them they can go to the DA's office and file a report. I never did retail security (shoplifting) but a lot of people do not understand there are laws giving shop owners (or their agents) extra powers to detain etc.

  • I am a security officer at a hospital in Sacramento, Ca. I feel that most security officers are not adequately trained for the daunting experience particulary working in an urban hospital. I feel that most people do not like security officers, because some officers are abusive in their behavior, and lack people skills. I try to treat everyone with respect, and don't let my square badge go to my head. Good security training and people skills is the key to being a good officer.

  • i like the way you do your job, i fucking can not stand dick head rent a cops who try to act like their little 3 acre mall area is like their land like a western sheriff only more abuseive

  • You have professional and unprofessional behavior in all occupations. Security Officers standout, because of their uniform and power to enforce company rules and regulations. Most people don't like to be told what to do,and how to do it. Its natural behavior for most people to act rude when they receive rude treatment. This creates a problem when security officers have to deal with the public. Good communication skills is very essential!

  • @intentx I worked a summer at a mall in Overland Park KS. It was nice part-time job. That was a long time ago (70s). I worked at a mall in Miami (FL) for a year. There were a number of the guys that were like you run into. One guy on day shift..would ticket cars like crazy. One guy on midnights that would create problems and he would lie. There were a number of guys that did not understand it was a mall RULE not to take photos and NOT a LAW. They wanted to arrest people for taking a photo.

  • losers!

  • nonsense how dare any of yous have a go at us specialist i have a badge and am trained to protect and serve and listen and look so whats your point not like those health and safety idiots with slack ways i report direct to another specialist in the largest organization in the none world

  • whats ur point? i cant get the relevance of ur story to the rent a cop incident. this is worthless.sorry but its true

  • @888elite888 Sorry you did not get it. I felt it was funny as hell that the doctor or nurse were thinking that I arrested him for calling me a rent a cop. I guess you had to see their faces and hear them saying "Jim you can't arrest someone for that!" I never told them there was an arrest warrnt out for him. You sure you watched the entire video? Smile

  • Great story of rent a cop incident!

Would have loved to see the nurse and

    doctors faces... Thanks!

  • SECURITY CANT DO RECORDS CHECKS

  • Not correct. We had a connection from the Kansas City Police Department. We could run back ground checks, check for warrents etc. We could run car tags. Only thing we could not do, for some reason, was run a home address.

  • This is the ultimate future of retired security guards! Broke, living in a homeless shelter, senile wearing a old ripped tee shirt! Pathetic really. And the story he just told was the greatest achievement of his life.

  • @le238man Not true..Not the high point of my work life..In fact not even the most funny. If you work hospital security you got hundreds of stories. Some you stories you may like more for some reason...I have seen a lot of stuff happen...You do not want to get an old hospital ER employee telling stories...Same with police officer or firemen. I was a welder for ten years and I do not remember any funny stories to tell about that time. Remember lot of very sad stories from the hospitals.

  • Well, you might have wanted to point out the fact that he had a warrant and that it wasn't for being mouthy. Still, the fact that he got arrested without that knowledge is sickening.

  • @canman87 He knew when the police office took him why he was being arrested. It is just the doctor and two nurses did not know. That is what, I think, makes it so funny. Hell I don't know.. the next time they saw one of the local police officers and I was not working they may have asked him about that and he might have told them. Smile

  • Hes Old And Its Cool That Hes On Youtube WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU DUDE.

  • If u dont like this guy keep it to yourself or leave the video this is where poeple can go to put wat they like so just keep the RUDE comments to yourself how woould u like it if u where having those comments said towards you

    EDMONTON POLICE SERVICE

  • I second that notion.

  • Good on you mate!

  • don't you have grandkids you should be telling this story to?

  • Yes but they will not listen to them. Guess that is way I got to tell them you you.

    Jim

  • hahahaha.

    poor thing.

  • ppl leave him alone, just because he is a little eldery doesnt give you the right to pick on them.

  • rofl nice life.

  • hahahaha not wow just wow

  • Most of the time security guards just get in the way, Security guards are not police. I hate responding to a call that deals with security guards because 80% of the time its just a guard over reacting

  • Yea how dare they interrupt your doughnut break and make you do your job.

  • In some areas guards have full police powers. NOT in FL however. Here a guard can not even make a citizen's arrest - it is written into law here. I have turned over to the police a ton of good arrest over the years. But yes I have seen guards that were a pain to the police. But don't forget the guard the broke the WaterGate break in and the guard that was the hero at the bombing in GA. (Both those guards are dead now by the way.)

  • Yeah Jim, lets not forget the guards in the "World Trade Center" on 911 who told people to go back into their offices on 911,after the first plane hit! Guards are assholes, never ,ever trust your safety to one.

  • Also lets not forget "Kenneth Bionci" one of the "Hillside stanglers" who was a security guard.

  • @le238man Sort of pointless to mention those cases...You can do the same for doctors, nurses, priests or any group of people. Let us not forget police officers. There have been cases of firemen starting fires. There was even an expert arson officer that was starting fires. There are a lot of people in the world and some of them are bad. I worked with a nurse and he was an ass hole and made a medication error and killed a patient. I can not think of a group that does not have a bad one.

  • You have good and bad security officers. Remember Frank Wills the security officer who helped bust the Nixon Watergate gang. Check him out on Wikipedia.

  • @airjor1 If I remember correct they used him in the Watergate movie. He died broke I think. I reading about him. It might have been in Wikipedia. I love Wikipedia and look up people and things often it it.

  • @le238man A lot of security officers lost their lives in the World Trade Center. I worked at one hospital in Kansas City and out of ten officers we had two officers shot in less than a year. One killed in the line of duty. They both saved other people from being killed. Just myself I saved a number of doctors and nurses and patients and visitors from being attacked. You got good guards and bad ones...It is like any other group of people..I saw a few bad doctors.

  • @le238man Did you know that the firefighters that were sent into the building also told people to stay where they were until help reached them? Did you know most of the firefighters died because of poor communication skills? It is noted that they were supposed be called out because of the building imploding but the communication between the base and field caused them to die as well. I don't see any need to criticize because everyone's human, we're all bound to make mistakes.

  • He was NOT arrested for calling me a name. I had to go to court and he was found guilty.

  • Got a fairly short attention span don't you zippy?

  • Hill billy? How is he a hill billy? He is just old and has an accent.

  • Accent? Accent? What accent?

    Smile

    Just kidding.

    Jim

  • great stories. I used to work security at a hospital also, but i never got any action. haha
