Good Lord, the video is a concerted variation of The Little Match Girl, originally by Hans Christian Anderson. The little European girl tries, every day, to sell her matches to bring money to her family. She is afraid her parents will be angry if she comes home without money. The winter day is colder and colder, and she has no shoes. afraid, she finds a small alley, and strikes a match, knowing that its warmth is the last bright warm thing. She freezes to death!

I comment to you, only to point you to my above comment. Hit your local library to see the Hans Christian Anderson story. It will take less time to read it than find it. It is both beautiful and horrific . No child should eface that kind of life. Breathe.

As you grow, become aware of the entire world, not just 'modern' trends... after all trends are always 'modern' for someone. If you can do that you can read Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead and understand the ending. Best!

@RnBramwell it wasnt my intention to say anything bad about the video I believe that the music video has some thought to it. What I mean by that is it really put things in perspective, in my life AND the video. Im sometimes very materialistic I know that Sometimes I dont count myself as lucky as I should If you look at what goes on in the video thats what I mean by grotesk I do know the story It wasnt my intention to come across as naive or heartless and Im sorry if that was what it looked like

yeah i heard it back in 2004 when it was released and for YEARS, up until last week, it was playing in my head. it was driving me nuts, until I suddenly remembered the video credits that said Erasure - Breathe... thank God I found it haha. it has such a memorable chorus.
