either the whole world is playing jesus in godspell, or jesuses watch way too many godspell videos on youtube. i'm playing jesus too btw. i just want to see how different people have sung the songs. I'm so nervous!!! lol
@mikus5 I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I was talking about the musical itself, not the performance, which was quite excellent. You're loose and confident, and you have a fantastic voice. I was actually Jesus myself in this musical recently.
I was just watching this with some friends while talking about Godspell, and we mused that none of us really like it, so I left the comment. I affectionately think it is a bad musical.
@arachnoman2099 gotcha, I've seen productions of this musical that I really dislike and ones that I really enjoy. It's not my favorite musical, but I had a blast doing it and I really think it can be very powerful when done right. I'll tell ya, when I first heard we were doing it and I knew nothing about it I watched the movie, and I was like, what the heck is this crap and why are we doing it?? haha
We just did this show ourselves and our Jesus had to sing more softly--he couldn't sound as angry. This is the way it should sound...and you have a great voice. Very passionate. Congratulations!
I absolutely love this song, and I think your right, there definitely needs to be anger. I'd heard way too many versions where Jesus was just kind of singing the words, not really putting any emotion into it, so I decided there was no way I was going to let that happen!
lol yeah I hear you on that one. My senior year of HS I was The Phantom, and I had a respiratory infection the week of the show. Getting sick during a show sucks
Ehh not too bad... I will say I'm not a giant fan of the last phrase being said to the audiance. What kind of vocal training have you had? cause I was jesus in HS and didn't have a problem with the g at the end. So I'm curious if maybe it was a style of training difference.
it had nothing to do with style, i had been sick the few days leading up to this performance and the g didn't feel like coming out. normally it wasn't a problem, but of course this was the night they were filming, so... what can ya do?
other than the tempo and pace being a little fast, there were few flaws with this. Your voice hasn't completely changed, and the "Blind Fools!" line at the end didn't do so well for you. Your voice cracked slightly. Other than that, perfect.
my voice has changed, actually, I'm 22, so... as for the ending, yeah, this wasn't my best night, my voice was basically gone, but it's also the emotion of the song contributing to the vocal quality there.
This is amazing!! I should have been paying more attention to what shows were playing at Calvin the past couple of years... I totally would have loved to go see this!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. You should have won that award!

to be fair that note at the end is a top G, he did pretty well not to topple of into head voice.
