  • We do have a great amount of sharks in SA, and a great number of Great Whites. We also know from interacting with our animals that they are not killers but just wild species and we live accordingly. In Eat London there are about 40 GWs sharing the beach with bathers and you can see them from the hotels, yet they feed on the seals living on an island about 800m away.

There is a tip - do not urinate in the water. This will attract interest from sharks and your urine may contain blood.

  • There arent shark attacks that often in South Africa. We never even see sharks and we're at the beach constantly. Its just one of those one things that happen every now and then. It will never keep people out of the water. We arent going to stay out of the water just because theres a shark attack once every couple of years, what a boring life we would have. If it happens it happens. Its like being struck by lightening. And not all areas of SA are full of sharks. In the eastern cape theres few

  • Why do people go in the water in South Africa? We all know that is the capital of great white sharks who like to eat people.

  • @Pedrof3110 more people die from bee stings than attacked by a shark. This is rare!

  • @pedrof3110 the chances of seeing a great white let alone be attacked by one are very slim. comparing that to getting out of the car on a safari is a completely different story. so just be quiet

  • This is ridiculous. If you are in South Africa and entered the water, you're asking to be attacked, and if you're on a safari and out of his vehicle to "get a better picture" (as many do), you are asking to die too.

    I can not understand.

  • @pedrof3110 only 5 people a year are killed by sharks more die from 5 gallon buckets so really you shouldn't be afraid awair yes cautious yes but afraid no.

  • I remember Shannon Ainslie (from the video) saying in the Surfers Bible, that when he realised there were two 4 metre great whites attacking him and that he had been hit, he just prayed that God would not let the shark come back and hit him a second time and that He would protect his friends. That area of South Africa is renowned for sharks but he still surfs there as a local. He is not afraid of sharks but considers them as part of God's world. I guess he figures his time is in God's hands

  • fucking hell,i have a phobia of big white sharks and if this happened to me i would be scared to bath ffs

  • why are white boy surfers, the only ones who get attacked? lol

  • @45Mang because they only like white meats?

  • @MarkCristiano7 i guess. lol

  • Ya me too. I'm also South African:) where was this?:)

  • I'm from South Africa, where was this? You are lucky to survive that man.

  • The first one attacked and was like

"Raarr im jaws and im gonna eat you"

Then when they see the second one hes like

"Oh no! Its bigger jaws now we have to work together!"

  • Lucky motherfucker right there

  • bad ass

  • how did he survive this? how did he get out of it? did the sharks just left him and swam away???

  • looks like if the first one had not pulled him off his board the second shark would have grabbed his torso!!!

  • I know him, he gave me surf lesson two weeks ago!,, he told his story to us too, God really saved his life

  • THAT JAMMY TWAT!!!!!!!!

  • That happened at "The Corner" on Nahoon Beach in East London South Africa. Ah! I remember that beach well from a wayward youth - sigh

  • south africans have an even funnier accent than australians!

  • @pespumante - funny, I sound similar and I reckon our accent sounds wicked

  • @pespumante you are a wanker. A guy gets attacked by sharks and the best comment your dumb ass can come up with is about the accent.

  • i would of been scared i f he had fall of the board that was the end of that suffer

  • did you know he was attacked AGAIN 2 yrs later! hes fine thou the only damage was to his board

  • @supersmexiwest Serious! That's insane. Do you know where this attack was?

  • Comment removed

  • PEI is in Canada.

  • @steffahippie2489 actually Prince Edward Island is on the coast of CANADA.

    thx

  • im an aussie who recently went to south africa and swam with the great whites. they DEFINATELY have the bigger ones over there in Gaansbaai near CapeTown. own the aussie sharks

  • how would u know how big aussie sharks are

and they travel to and fro countries. so no particular country owns the biggest sharks

  • @anguski22 a few years back they fround these sharks off the coast of korea an japan that was 56 feet long.... they were skeletons but they assume there some still alive out there

  • how the hell does anyone let a shark get that close to them if they've all got giant yellow arrows floating above them?

    Morons.

  • @dooivid This had me laughing out loud for a few minutes!

  • could you imagine the terror when he ended up in the water waiting for the next wave with those 2 brutes wanting to eat you

  • i saw that

he got away with just a wound..in his finger

  • The lesson in here don't surf where a beach is infested with great white and if you still do and got bite you're a moron.

  • I've been to SA twice and one time I was swimming in the Ocean nearby Port Elisabeth and had to come out of the water because there was a shark :p I was like halfway between the shark and the coast. He probably wasn't hungry, or God protected me :p

  • Thing is, surfers are in the Shark's element. South Africa and the Med. have some of the largest Whites anywhere. Why is anyone who's riding an apparatus that, from below the water, looks to the shark like the largest seal meal they'll have in days?!

The trouble isn't the sharks. It's the board style and that there's nothing on them to deter a shark hit. "Shark Shield" is the ticket.

    Great video too.

  • no mate here in South Australia we have the biggest whites we've had numerous fatalities and have seen many times whites well over 20ft also one that was tagged swam from Adelaide South Australia to South Africa and back, awesome predator when you get face to face with one,and shark sheild won't stop one if he's coming in flat out for the kill,it will deter one if it comes up and checks you out but otherwise your shark shit, also the world record was caught here off Ceduna South Australia

  • Incredible video! He was really lucky to escape not one but TWO sharks, just as what Herbology1 puts it, it's a bloody miracle.

  • Let me guess....this dumbass still surfs.

  • wow ur a dick arent you?

  • FUCK YOU

  • They prob attacked because he pisses a lot in his wetsuit. And he has to go to the bathroom more then a normal person would. I've seen it on tellie when I was in South Africa. And the 2nd one missed him because the first one nocked him out of the way so the 2nd one just jumped next to him.

  • I thought sharks hunted alone, is this common for them to hunt in pairs or groups like killer whales?

  • lucky bastard

  • You know, the only way this guy lived and has his both arms is because the second shark was also aiming for him and accidentally hit the other shark causing it to let go of him, this is because when sharks attack they close a protective eyelid so they actually don't hurt their eyes (weak point) they don't actually see anything after they open their mouths. I saw it on animal planet heehee!

  • shark 2 x surfer 0 great score....

  • Hmm, i though great whites hunted on their own

  • poor boy

  • The odds of encountering a great white are remote. The odds of encountering two attacking you at the same time are even more remote. The odds of surviving this with only a cut hand is a bloody miracle!!!!!!!!!!

  • @herbology1 ..seems that the "experts" were wrong about this..as two white sharks took 2 18 y.o men from an adelaide beach not long after this attack. there were no remains or survivors though, only disturbed witnesses.

  • scarry

  • I think both sharks backed down for each other.

Sharks will eat people, it doesn't mean they like us more, or that we need to get rid of them.

    & LOL @ ROARINGBEAR54!

Who knows, maybe it's a Captain Hook thing and it is still only two sharks, just the same one twice?

I've seen aerial footage of a gulf coast beach with many dark shapes in the water. I will stick to snow skiing, thanks!

  • i just saw this on discovery channel and i was like wtf !

    thx god he's still alive ! =)

  • harden up mate in australia we have to fight off sharks, spiders, snakes, drop bears, bunyips, wallabys, blue ring octopus, blue bottle jellyfish, irrakangi jellys and sting rays just to see the ocean!!!!

  • Turn it up mate.

  • fuck off bogan!

  • Haha, I'm the complete opposite of a bogan.

making assumptions about me from 4 words said over the internet.

    Nice work

  • drop bears lol

    wallabys,

  • there is an easier way just drive down gold coast motorway to surfers, that way you get to avoid all those dangerous drop bears, bunyips, wallabys and lets not forget the killer Koalas.

  • lol dont piss in the water dude.

it`s like farting in front of a polar bear lol

  • Lmaooooooo... I know this is not supposed to be funny, but roaringbear is right

  • damn thats crazy

  • saw this on the boob tube too. this gut was attacked by another great white later. At what point do you say, "OK, maybe I'm a shark magnet," and stay the f@%K OUT OF THE WATER?

  • Lucky

  • that this sort of man as Sind attacked by two sharks and leave alive. That is a miracle maestro, give thanks to God who leave alive.

  • Sharks don't eat everything and anything. Well okay, maybe sometimes Tiger Sharks eat some REALLY strange things... But besides that, no sharks have a very strict diets and actually can be picky eaters. They usually 'bump and bite' to test out what they feel may be prey because they have poor eyesight due to their field of vision being somewhat limited. Most sharks do NOT like the taste of human flesh and let go after the first bite. Most humans don't have enough 'blubber' on them like seals do.

  • No, actually ChartStalker is correct, they don't have a craving for us...

  • nooo hell no sirleeroy1 they are hungry and just eat whatever the fuck they want....they dont get confused....they just hungry and eat us not confused..

  • sharks don't have craving for humans, they just get confused and eat everything in sight to find what they want

  • a 30foot great white tried to attack me once i told him i knew chuck norris and he fucked off quicktime...true story

  • thats suome shit huh 2 damn sharks lol he could of be mojorly fucked lol

  • the fisrt shark would bite but the second shark saved the mans live!!!

  • AND there is a reason why they attk surfers for most of the time cuz they remend the shark that is dinner time no but the real reason that sharks think that surfers remend them a fish with the board and there wasnt 2 sharks i saw it in high coulty in the film and he said him self in the enter view that he was face to face to the shark and not the sharks you babon it may look like that but its not you moran

  • o i saw that movie in a bbc film about sharks that was aowsem in that film you saw there a person that got cout by shark and you can see that he has some thing wierd like a second stamek

  • why do they go in thier when they know sharks are at these sea

  • Why anyone would get into the water where these things are is beyond me.

  • Why I keep on dry land :)

  • im never going in the sea now

  • i watched a documentary on NG about this attack, and the reason why the sharks attacked him was because he produced more sweet then the other guys who where surfing. and he was real lucky that guy.

  • i ment sweat. typing failure

  • i read in the newspaper after this attack that, that first shark clipped his arm and the board launching him in the air momentarily, actually saving his life from the second shark who missed the grab because of that. one lucky bugger

  • hes so damn lucky

  • damn, I'd be scared to take a bath for the next two years, honestly. Surf's up!

  • this makes a huge difference 2 society (not!).

if 1 shark saved him, shouldnt we keep them alive?

  • the shark 1 saved him from the sec shark 2! lol

  • Madonna's "accent"? SHe doesn't have one! That British accent is the fakest piece of shit she could ever put out there to try to make herself seem cool. Well, she's not cool; she's old and wrinkly and needs to retire and just give it up.

  • i bet he will still go play in the water!

  • I wish the footage was better.

    That's frickin scary though..

For real I'd be like shit no more ocean for me =] Lol. I love your accent btw :)

  • That South African accent is damn awesome! Best in the world!

  • that was the funkiest accent i've ever heard

  • You've never seen Madonna use her British accent before, have you?

  • I guess not

  • He has been attacked by two sharks and you talk about madonna's accent?!

    God save you... XD

  • So you know what you want to play in the ocean fine people need to start showing a little more respect to other liveing creatures who have been hear way before you. and stop freaking out and wanting to rid the world of sharks everytime a person gets attacked by and one in the OCEAN! There were too great whites there if they wanted to kill that guy trust me they could have very easiley done it. sorry that was so long.

  • You know what it doesn't matter if they kill to live or for fun (which I don't believe) the Ocean is not a fucking swimming pool if your going to mess around in it then you have to accept the risk. The Ocean is their home how would any of you feel if someone came into your home and try to take over. Shit you would probably attack too.

  • save the sharks!!!

    stop finning!!!

  • who gives a shit if theyre killing machines or not, fact stands theyre an apex predator and should be shown respect, theyve attacked people accidentally, people shoot foxes for sport, whos the real bastard here then?

  • re: fuckitsmike

sorry my last reply wasnt to you it was to an earlier post! I agree with what you say entirely!

  • no worries bro glad you share my opinion

  • let me just tell u....ive met this guy....im friends with this guy....he is an awesome christian dude....its a miricle he is alive...he has had 3 encounters with sharks....dont be raggin on him....he was out doing what he LOVED doing....and still LOVES doing!

  • damn hook me up cuz he's hot!

  • The shark? LOL....

  • for fuck sake! great white sharks kill to live just like the human race and were the worst as we even kill for sport

  • i saw this vid on national geographic but they said the boy died..

  • Maybe his corpse did the interview?

  • whats a shark?

  • Bullshit Ive seen alot of shows of sharks coming back for more and killing the human.

Ever hear of the USS Indianapolis ? Sharks eat people ! Im sick of people saying they dont like humans and act like sharks are innocent,

    Its bullshit

  • Just because a handful of sharks attack people doesn't mean that every single member of all 300 species does.

  • What if only one shark was going after the surfer? One shark 'accidentally' knocked the other out of the way...

My parents and I were joking around that Bruce saved that dude's life..

  • hey, jordybitch whatever, shut the hell up, no one cares, ass.

  • 'The White Shark is not an opportunistic feeder, it's diet is very narrow. They are also naturally inquistive. Stick your hand in a fish tank, goldfish will suck on your finger. The White shark basically does the same thing, to find out what that object of interest or distraction is. The reason as for alot of attack victims surviving is because the shark realises that the human is not it's prey. Should humans be it's prey, then people would not survive.'

  • LOL u idoit who teh fuck wants some great white sucking on them are you fuckign stupid!

  • That is so scary. Yes, I think they do kill for fun. It's their nature, you know.

  • You can say the same thing about humans.

  • I just saw the video on Ripleys believe it or not and i looked it up on YouTube

  • They totally pincer attacked him right at the crest of that wave. Plus they played Final Fantasy music during the attack analysis so it reminded me of the FFVI pincer attack option. Wedge and Briggs totally took that guy down.

  • The water is too darn cold anyway to swim in Southafrica. We were in Billabongs surf capital and we were quite disappointed. Anyway: impressive footage!

  • what do the "shark experts" have to say about THIS film!?

face it, sharks eat people. no mistake!

  • they dont eat people sharks bite them to see what it (people) is but then they let go esppecially great whites

  • idiot! LOL these sharks were so close they knew exactly what they were attacking! you are a blind follower of dis-information. test your theory, swim with one. the world could do with 1 less mentally challenged follower!

  • SHARKS ARE NOY KILLING MACHINES they will not attack unless they are being threatened or taunted did you have a bad shark expierience or did mommy let u use the computer

  • you are a promo for abortions! you are repeating wrong info! many sharks are man-eaters...period. GROW up!

  • Well, it has evolved for millions of years to kill and hunt better. If thats not a killing machine what is? reguarded to damien

  • a killing machine is a machine designated to kill and this person SURVIVED the shark coulda killed him no worries at all but it didnt and there were 2 sharks, sharks dont hunt in packs so the surfer probally looked like a seal or something i lived in south africa for 12 years and ive never heard of a shark succeding in an attack although im not saying sharks have never killed someone all im saying is that weve killed more.

  • you're the stupidest fucking 12 year old i've ever seen on youtube. honestly.

  • real fucking mature u dumnass buttpirate

  • and im NOT a fucking 12 year old you fucktard im 15 i [{[{LIVED]}]} in south africa for 12 years i moved to canada.

  • are you autistic or something?

  • 2 sharks holyy shit

  • Two sharks attacked this simpleton and all he has to show for it is a neatly bandaged arm? Maybe the sharks are the simpletons. (By the way, what WAS he saying? Dotheads are more intelligible than he is.)

  • Hey asshole, if you were attacked by two sharks I'm sure you would be extremely grateful that all you had to show was a "neatly bandaged arm" rather than a missing limb, or worse.

  • That was a cool South African accent, dude!

  • @NeverGiveUpBoy - accents vary across the country, this is the perfect example of accents along the coastal region

  • and your a twat

  • I think I am, I'm not sure though???
