Ok, before we trash the English and make heroes out of Americans, read at Wikipedia the South Carolina Swamp Fox. This movie is loosely, very loosely based on Francis Marion and Colonel Tarleton. They were both brutal men. Just read about them.

funny thing is in reality half of the southerners or even more were loyalist, so walking into a tavern and shouting "god save king george" might not have been so bad. Many of those backwoodsman/farmers, were actually concripted into loyalist regiments, and the british legion which tarleton/tavington commanded was comprised almost entirely of loyalists, some from South Carolina.
