I love this man's music, my dad was his biggest fan, i was brought up with his music, so many of his songs hold special memories for me good and bad and it has always been my dream to duet with him, just once, unfortunately at 32 im prob way too late :(
@KAF1979 Yeah me too, tho parents were not huge fans I remember going to school (primary school) with three girls behind me trying to sing baby jane as they were skipping down the road arm in arm, I fancied the one in the middle tried to join in and got the biggest glare! shot down in flames at 8 yrs old....
Guys like Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood are pros. Old pros.
They're from a time where a musician could just turn up and do this sort of thing, with no sound checks, warm ups or practice.
You know, modern bands on Letterman, they'll be sound checking and practising all day for such a big show.
Rod and Ronnie show up, just use the house band, and are performing live 2 hours after they arrived in the building, without ever having met the rest of the band!
@MrCeej9999 Uh what? You are wrong on three accounts all having to do with the same band member. Just who do you think the mandolin player is? J'Anna Jacoby was on Letterman, and is Rod Stewart's mandolin player! You might be able to piece together where you went awry.
Rod Stewart,will be listened too many years from now as a unique voice and great showman.Best voice ever.Get back with the Faces,for a few concerts.J.C.
Maggie May, It's All Over Now Bay Blue, these songs are connected at the hip and the whole folky srummin' thing going on then...Stewarts unique voice adds something special...My Sweet Lord, It Don't Come Easy, Come up and See Me..
Gawd, with his Vegas-style presentation, glam suit, and over-the-top theatrics, Rod manages to totally destroy (in the bad sense) this song. What was once an anthem to disenfranchised youth, rebellious teens, and the '70s search for meaning is, in this rendition, a trite, ridiculous self-parody. Go back and listen to how the song was done on "Every Picture Tells A Story" . It's poignant, meditative and profound. This version is crap.
Great song sung by a master. What an amazing band for a TV show - I wonder if they were styncing - yes the girl is not picking the mandolin break - whatever - lots of joy here
I'm in talks with HSBC & Barclays. I'm asking for a 50 billion pound loan so I can re-open Woolworths just for one day so laddo here can expose his anal tract to the general public
OMG!! He's Robin Williams making impressions of Rod Stewart! He's amazing! ;)

I saw Rod Stewart and faces at the Cow Palace in SF around 1973 or 74 along with Foghat. He's quite a showman.

WHAT a Performance..Rod pulled out All the stops on this one!!

@YORKIE230557
Thing is, Rod performed this song with David Lettermans house band around the same time. Doing the talkshow scene.
Only person he'd met before the day, was his mate Ronnie Wood, who played the guitar. Rest of the band was just Letterman's house band.
Honestly, it was perfection. Not a missed note. Sounded the same as this. He even commented to Letterman afterwards "what a great band they are".
