This is my favourite DS song, although he never recorded any I didn't like. When I first heard Runaway in my early teens it switched me on to rock n'roll and has given me half a century of pleasure. His unique voice always reminds me of fairgrounds. I like the way Del always provided a quality B side on all his singles, not just a mediocre filler to scoop royalties, like most artists of the time. What a pity Elvis Presley never had Del's charisma and talent - he could have been famous. DS was great
Del Shannon great guy, great singer, brill through the sixties . A very sad end for him ,he thought people had forgot him ,well Del if you are out close ,i can tell you ,people are still playing your music ,and i for one will never forget you .
desbeeny I have to say I have this on 45 and on the reverse is Ginny in the Mirror. I sure that I have a tape somewhere though of Del singing from me to you. Perhaps the Swiss Maid re- released at some point with from me to you on the back. IM sure somebody will know !!
this was my first del shannon song i ever heard when i was 16 on an old 45rpm lost was very nice to hear it again as i used to sing it all the time back then where do the years go alas never mind cheers gazza uk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh such great memories for me. I used to sing in a band (from Glasgow) our singer called John Ritchie used to sing this song, he had the most amazing voice, and he sung this beautifully.Oh I wish I could turn the clock back and relive all those memories. Thankx for posting this.
I love this song. First heard it when i was about 10 on my moms record player and wished so hard to be a swiss maid! lol I'm now 28 and still i love it!
My favourite Del Shannon song! First heard it in 1991 when my sister was working as an au pair in Switzerland so naturally reminded me of her. She did find her love but alas it didn't last!
A great artist, I always find it difficult to pin point a favorite Del Shannon song this would be high on my list. I think probably Jody would have to be up there too. Thanks for posting
The reason this song has the sound it has is because it is sung in F# and drops into E for the middle eight, then back into F# for the second verse. If you want to hear a second rate version, try Frank Ifield - but why should you want to do that!
I thonk the flip side to this 45rpm is titled 'The Wamboo' also a great song the rovals 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'. When I find it in my collection I will post it.
Great song, excellent video. Back in the early 70's, Del Shannon had a concert booked in my town (Bundaberg). I rushed out to buy my ticket. Due to poor ticket sales, the gig was cancelled. I never did get to see him. The Wrestling tour always booked out.... Go figure !!!!
I always loved this. Del was so versatile.

this is the song I heard right before the DJ said Del Shannon was dead,
seen him twice in concert, some oldies can sound a little ragged live, but Del was studio quality was really amazed !

I don't know if this has been mentioned.
My Dad had this record, and I'm certain the "B" side was "From Me To You". By then unheard songwriters Lennon & McCartney.
VAC52 2 years ago
I bought this 45 RPM record as a lad and still have it.
The flipside is the song "LIES" written and sung by Del Shannon.
Cheers and Merry Christmas
