  • EBRO MUSIC TRIVIA

    Title:The Swiss Maid

    Artist: Del Shannon

    Label: London Records

    Date: November 13, 1962

    Peak: #2 on British Charts

    Week: 17 Weeks

  • Del, what a great artist,. Brilliant songs. This proves what a great vocal range he had.

Sad not with us any longer. Brought me many hours of pleasure.

  • This is my favourite DS song, although he never recorded any I didn't like. When I first heard Runaway in my early teens it switched me on to rock n'roll and has given me half a century of pleasure. His unique voice always reminds me of fairgrounds. I like the way Del always provided a quality B side on all his singles, not just a mediocre filler to scoop royalties, like most artists of the time. What a pity Elvis Presley never had Del's charisma and talent - he could have been famous. DS was great

  • I completely forgot all about this one from Del...thanks for posting. Thanks to YouTube I can re-live my teenage years!

  • always reminds me of when i was a little girl, when the summer was long and hot

  • I want to Know if the sinnger is from Switzerland He is a good Jodler

  • this is the song I heard right before the DJ said Del Shannon was dead,

seen him twice in concert, some oldies can sound a little ragged live, but Del was studio quality was really amazed !

  • why did he take his life?

  • @sturdle He was suffering from depression and took his life with a .22 calibre rifle at his home in Santa Clarita, CA.

  • @annie482000 What a total waste, Del could really sing, why do people with such talent believe they are not wanted, our loss though is heaven's gain

  • @davetheoldmod My thoughts entirely, dave.

  • HAVE THIS ON MY JUKEBOX....GREAT SONG

  • We used to sing this in the train on the way to college,fan-flamin'-tastic!!,thanks Del,Murray

  • peaked at #8 on CFUN 1410 AM in Vancouver, Canada in August 1962

  • He has done a version as good as Frank Ifield´s!

  • big up !

  • The original.

  • ...the great roger miller...singing back grown...!

  • Del's best

  • Two of my favourite things in one - Del Shannon and Switzerland! Thanks for posting

  • i have the original single and the b is ginny in the mirror

  • @ceaserretford ...that's correct!! I've all his songs

  • GREAT SONG!! BEST VERSION!!

  • all this disagreement about the flipside....maybe, just maybe they put more than one song one the other side

  • I still have this 45 single from 1962

and the flipside is "Ginny in the Mirror".

One of my all time favorites

  • the beatles were already well known when they wrote from me to you

  • I don't know if this has been mentioned.

My Dad had this record, and I'm certain the "B" side was "From Me To You". By then unheard songwriters Lennon & McCartney.

  • I bought this 45 RPM record as a lad and still have it.

The flipside is the song "LIES" written and sung by Del Shannon.

    Cheers and Merry Christmas

  • @desfeeney Happy New Year one and all.

desbeeny I have to say I have this on 45 and on the reverse is Ginny in the Mirror. I sure that I have a tape somewhere though of Del singing from me to you. Perhaps the Swiss Maid re- released at some point with from me to you on the back. IM sure somebody will know !!

It's a good collection of images. I now feel like eating Toblerone!

  • om god ive just trned 24 and i love del shannon i was brought up with all these songs - love this song x

  • I love Del Shannon.. But with that face you cant end up with anything else than a broken heart :)

  • Oh such great memories for me. I used to sing in a band (from Glasgow) our singer called John Ritchie used to sing this song, he had the most amazing voice, and he sung this beautifully.Oh I wish I could turn the clock back and relive all those memories. Thankx for posting this.

  • I love this song. First heard it when i was about 10 on my moms record player and wished so hard to be a swiss maid! lol I'm now 28 and still i love it!

  • And we are still playing it with the band 47 years on! Surely his best ever.

  • my first ever record I had at the age of 12 (1962) and love it just as much now

  • My favourite Del Shannon song! First heard it in 1991 when my sister was working as an au pair in Switzerland so naturally reminded me of her. She did find her love but alas it didn't last!

  • Die goeie ouwe tijd!! Ik draai de singel regelmatig. Geweldige muziek!!

  • One of those songs I still listen to regularly since I bought it back in 1963.

Fantastic memories 'cause I had a

Swiss girlfriend by then called Hildegard.

  • Did she really?? --You're just kidding me, aren't you - you rascal!

  • this was a favorite of my fathers and we had it on record long before the aul cds and you tube came along.brings back memories.

  • I wish i'd never heard this...

  • Love Songs Like This A Nice Story,

Like, Running Bear - Johnny Preston,

    Love That One

  • hello

  • IS ROGER MILLER DOING BACK-UP?

  • phil spector must have been involved in this

  • at last i found it. great song , the best version, thanks a lot.

  • Your welcome carbug1952

  • The reason this song has the sound it has is because it is sung in F# and drops into E for the middle eight, then back into F# for the second verse. If you want to hear a second rate version, try Frank Ifield - but why should you want to do that!

  • Oh Yes !! Great song !! great mems !! thanx ...lyndloo..

  • Great song, excellent video. Back in the early 70's, Del Shannon had a concert booked in my town (Bundaberg). I rushed out to buy my ticket. Due to poor ticket sales, the gig was cancelled. I never did get to see him. The Wrestling tour always booked out.... Go figure !!!!

  • Had lots of great hits, Left us way too soon
