This is great! What is also cool is that Paul McCartney owns the rights to this song. The Brits still understand the value of American Rock and Roll better than the Americans.
Lots of good versions, and this one isn't bad. He sounds a bit like Dylan's torn and frayed voice (but without the timing that helped make Mr. D.a star). I still prefer Holly's or Fairport's beautiful one. Thanks for a live version of a rarity!
Great cover of Buddy Holly's song. The energy and intention in Keith's singing is awesome despite any smoking, and it delivers the message of wisdom and experience perfectly. Truly, very beautiful in its own right.

Fuck ya! I respect the stones but am no fan of theirs but I love buddy and this is awesome! Keith and the stones know who the fuck is the MAN, and thats Buddy Holly. And FUCK ELVIS! LOL
@vintagedeluxe I get all that influence shit about elvis. I still dnt like him. Hes like eminem, the 1st white boy to become super successful doing black music.
This far from sucks..great guitar tone, sloppy, heartfelt presentation...in my book, that's the foundation for great rock music. I love it. I love the way they're not playing all the time. We should be glad that these guys are doing what they do...compared to the quite a bit of the more modern popular music these days....especially what is being presented as rock music. Not that this particularly "rocks"...it' is what it is, and I personally think it's actually very refreshing.
@PAULLONDEN fair enough. when i first heard this song here i thought, "Hey, the Rolling Stones have a good song I haven't heard before," then I read in the comments it's written by Buddy Holly. I'll have to check out the original...
Waylon states in his autobiography that he was in the apt. in late '58 when Buddy recorded this demo of LTG in one take. Then they went out for a pastrami sandwich afterwards - Waylon had never had pastrami and he hated it! Waylon genuinely loved Buddy - they were brothers in a way. I think most of us only know friendship like that once in our lives - and those guys had it. To me, this is a song of a brother warning a brother - hey, you've got a lot to learn, but it's okay. You'll get there...
I always thought the shitty generic keyboards have consistently fucking ruined all Stones n related live performances for the past 30 years, at least went back to a mean guitar tone
like the way keith richards perform it!!!! learning the game!!!! love the song also!!!!! when you love her and she doesn't love you, that's when you're learning the game!!!!!
Yeah I see what you mean... I love the way he sings beacuse he puts his Bad MoFo#$ness in the songs but at the same time he shows that he has a heart like all of us...
My Keef favorites are: This of course, Thru &Thru, How I Wish and Locked Away
I used to like You got the Silver a lot but then I heard the Mick on Vocals version and WOW!! Sorry keef... but you´re still the man
I seen a film with him and Chuck Berry and Mr. Berry was very upset, giving out over how people should respect more of his music. Mr Richards was most gracious, and show a lot of understanding and restraint. It just showed me how down to earth this Mega Star is.
Keith's a legend, been following him since my teens too! His songs Make no Mistake, I could have stood you up, hate it when you leave, etc etc & his solo albums are real masterpieces!!
Over half of the audience doesn't have a clue who originally wrote this song. But I'm glad to see that Keith Richards hasn't forgotten one of his idols.
Great rendition of the Buddy Holly classic that only has one verse and one chorus. The Stones have always loved Buddy's music. Their first hit was "Not Fade Away." Keith is without doubt the most emotional guitarist in history. You might argue that Clapton or Knoffler, SRV or Van Halen may have more technique. But, you would be hard pressed to find anyone with more intensity or honesty. I love him.
God, he's got the best guitar sound in the whole world, his style is amazing. I don't want to get any purists upset, but I've got this on the Bigger Bang box set, and when Jagger comes back on after this song, it's just like "Oh shit, here comes the annoying monkey" I love the Stones, but I think Keith is so much more charming and is way cooler than Jagger ever was
Keith Richard, I fuckin' love you man. Your the guitarist in the biggest rock n roll band in the world, and all you seem to want to do is make people aware of the best of Rock n roll. You tried to make the shite sound of Chuck Berry relate to what he's really trying to do, cos, i agree he's a fuckin icon. You're agreat dude Keef. the powder is i think baby powder or chalk to stop his hand getting sweaty (i doubt its cocaine lol!)
Jasonmcintyre2007 4 years ago
What is that powder that comes off Keith's guitar?
drummerkid247 4 years ago
Talcum powder to absorb sweat and to prevent slipping. It is not cocaine.
BarnesSean 4 years ago

drummerkid247 4 years ago
No the talcum power absorbs some of Keith's sweat so his hand doesn't slip. If you noticed he has sanded the lacquer finish off the neck of his guitar as well to decrease slipping. A lot of people sand their guitar necks these days because newer guitars have even thicker gloss coats.
