  • The original by Holly is waaaaaaaaay better

  • Love Hurts at the moment but this song makes me feel much better<3

  • KEITH....ONE FOR EVER!

  • Keith = No1 BIG UP

  • This is great! What is also cool is that Paul McCartney owns the rights to this song. The Brits still understand the value of American Rock and Roll better than the Americans.

  • Lots of good versions, and this one isn't bad. He sounds a bit like Dylan's torn and frayed voice (but without the timing that helped make Mr. D.a star). I still prefer Holly's or Fairport's beautiful one. Thanks for a live version of a rarity!

  • An old Buddy Holly song. Love it!

  • yes ,, awesome ,,the king of rock ,,luv ya keith

  • dude is hagard as fuck

  • has any one seen keith richards and colonel gaddafi in the same room at the same time

one is a great guitarist and one is an arse hole.

  • Singen kann er nicht - aber er gefällt halt immer noch.

Ich liebe ihn - auch wenn er wie ein Kind ist :-)

Er ist (durchaus wichtiger) Teil meines lebens.

Der Rock'n Roll bleibt für immer!

  • god he hasnt aged well...

  • Four people weren't the one she was thinking of.

  • Thanks Keef ; ) Keep passin' it on.....

  • Great cover of Buddy Holly's song. The energy and intention in Keith's singing is awesome despite any smoking, and it delivers the message of wisdom and experience perfectly. Truly, very beautiful in its own right.

  • Not unlike the version by Andrew Gold, who covered it in 1976 on his self titled LP

  • This brings a big smile to my face. Keith singing a great Buddy Holly tune. Great version too!

  • this video has more hits that the original?

  • Damn if Keith hasn't really come into his own as a singer in the last 10 years. Outstanding.

  • Well, don wanna come over too rude...and so far excuse my arrogance... but Charlie,Ron & the big "K"...that`s the Stones past 2000! Rite?! I mean...Where`s SIR M. Jogger? Do I miss him on here? Narr, not realy....

  • Well, don wanna come over too rude...,but..excuse my arrogance...Charlie,Ron & the big "K"...that`s the Stones past 2000! Rite?! I mean...Where`s SIR M. Jogger?

  • In 2:00 when he says "learning the game" he sounds a bit like Lemmy from Motorhead.

  • Fuck ya! I respect the stones but am no fan of theirs but I love buddy and this is awesome! Keith and the stones know who the fuck is the MAN, and thats Buddy Holly. And FUCK ELVIS! LOL

  • @BaalofSoul without elvis there will be no buddy holly at all. and believe me i'm a great fan a buddy !

  • @vintagedeluxe thats not true

    Elvis didn't invent music

    neither did Buddy

    you forgot the blues

    got to study... ;)

  • @vintagedeluxe I get all that influence shit about elvis. I still dnt like him. Hes like eminem, the 1st white boy to become super successful doing black music.

  • So much comfort and experience for this feeling in your songs!

  • Listening to you , is such a treat Everytime!

  • awsome i hope they come to the Netherlands again!

  • Beautiful lyrics and music. Great thanks, Buddy and Keith!!

  • What a musician, what a man. Rock on Keith.

  • very powerful voice after all these years, amazing book, Life, buy it.

  • Great song by Buddy Holly, great performance by Keith. A true survivor!

  • keith is god!!!!!

  • This far from sucks..great guitar tone, sloppy, heartfelt presentation...in my book, that's the foundation for great rock music. I love it. I love the way they're not playing all the time. We should be glad that these guys are doing what they do...compared to the quite a bit of the more modern popular music these days....especially what is being presented as rock music. Not that this particularly "rocks"...it' is what it is, and I personally think it's actually very refreshing.

  • I love this recording of this song. Keith nails it. "Ha!- that's when your learning the game."

  • S▬U▬C▬K▬S

You might've earned yourself the right to play the clown, but stop trampling over your once brilliant legacy.

Play Johnny Cash in your next life.

  • @PAULLONDEN You don't like Buddy Holly?

  • @maxLeifermann Ofcourse MaX...Most 5T's Rock'n'Roll get's my vote.♫

I'm just tired of clap cattle that applaud his each & every fart.

He earned himself the right to take a crap on stage if he wishes so,though.

  • @PAULLONDEN fair enough. when i first heard this song here i thought, "Hey, the Rolling Stones have a good song I haven't heard before," then I read in the comments it's written by Buddy Holly. I'll have to check out the original...

  • when you think shes the only one youll ever love, come to find shes not the one your thinking of...that's when your learning the game...beautiful

  • Waylon states in his autobiography that he was in the apt. in late '58 when Buddy recorded this demo of LTG in one take. Then they went out for a pastrami sandwich afterwards - Waylon had never had pastrami and he hated it! Waylon genuinely loved Buddy - they were brothers in a way. I think most of us only know friendship like that once in our lives - and those guys had it. To me, this is a song of a brother warning a brother - hey, you've got a lot to learn, but it's okay. You'll get there...

  • Keith really understands what this song is about. It comes through loud and clear. Fantastic!

  • Long as keef is alive..rock n roll is in a safe place

  • I really know what Keef is singing about

  • I always thought the shitty generic keyboards have consistently fucking ruined all Stones n related live performances for the past 30 years, at least went back to a mean guitar tone

  • LOVE THIS!

  • Is this the father of Lady Gaga ?

  • who saw the powder coming of keith hand in the begining like magnesium??

  • @4youk

That powder is used so the guitar neck isnt sticky when he slides up and down the neck. It could fuck him up and no one wants that...

    Keith for Life

  • i LOVE it when he first says thats when you're learning the game!

  • "What can you say, he had it all - lucky devil." - Keith Richards on Buddy Holly.

  • I'll never forget this concert. One of the greatest nights I'll ever experience. God bless the Rolling Stones! And God bless Austin, TX!!!

  • nice Fender ad !

  • De nummer van Buddy Holly is al geweldig, maar dit mag er ook zijn,

Learning the game from Buddy Holly is a great song, but this is also great.

  • keith is soul of rock ´n´roll!

  • what album is this on?

  • @grooveendroad

its not on any official release ...its on bootleg

  • "Not bad for a guy from Lubbock" - Keith Richards on Buddy Holly.

  • Fantastic from Keith to Buddy!

  • That's the way to do it, Keep it simple and let it rock & roll.....

  • I just lost

  • More riffs like this, Keith!

  • yaaaaay keith richards! i don't think I've heard him sing this before! yaay he's good! Keith Richards is actually the best!! xD

  • wat chords is it

  • Keith is the absolutely Boss

  • like the way keith richards perform it!!!! learning the game!!!! love the song also!!!!! when you love her and she doesn't love you, that's when you're learning the game!!!!!

  • Respect keith or die!!!For goddsakes.Keith wrote the book!!!!!

  • Buddy could say more in a few words than any writer could using 3 times as many.

  • He is my hero!

    He is immortal!!!

  • the teacher speaks.

  • good tribut RIP BUDDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

  • plenty of feeling and good looking in those days eh!

  • That's what's called:

    AWESOME MUSIC...

BEING ONE OF THE COOLEST MoFo$·%"s ON EARTH...

    and...

BEING THE BEST BAND OF ALL TIME!!!!

    period!

  • hey man, isnt this great.... look keith isnt the best singer.... its just the emotion he puts into the lyrics that most people do not understand...

  • Yeah I see what you mean... I love the way he sings beacuse he puts his Bad MoFo#$ness in the songs but at the same time he shows that he has a heart like all of us...

My Keef favorites are: This of course, Thru &Thru, How I Wish and Locked Away

I used to like You got the Silver a lot but then I heard the Mick on Vocals version and WOW!! Sorry keef... but you´re still the man

  • @Toltecatl of course man....the best band of the world

  • Such a wonderful Buddy song, only released after his death. Good on Keith for keeping that Holly lit.

  • im a big keith fan, and i think this is awsome... look, keith cant sing, but its the fucking SOUL that man brings to his music......

  • Buddy Holly song Learning the Game

  • he sounds like lou reed!

  • good to be here! good to be anywhere!!!!!!!

  • Holly king of rock,Great job

  • 0:36 That's a NoNo Woody....

Since when do you need a WATCH on stage? ▬☺▬

  • I agree ;))

But his name is not Woody, but Ronnie!

  • hes the coolest man to ever live PERIOD

  • I seen a film with him and Chuck Berry and Mr. Berry was very upset, giving out over how people should respect more of his music. Mr Richards was most gracious, and show a lot of understanding and restraint. It just showed me how down to earth this Mega Star is.

  • 10-22-06 Stones concert in Zilker park, Austin Tx. It was great!

  • I love Keith, he's a pure artist.

  • I loooooove Keith!

  • GENIOO..

    LO AMO.-

  • Keith's a legend, been following him since my teens too! His songs Make no Mistake, I could have stood you up, hate it when you leave, etc etc & his solo albums are real masterpieces!!

  • @68generation Nobody are even remotely close to Keith. I'm 54 and have followed him since I was nine, (1965).

  • @jto1916 yes

  • @jto1916 yes!!!

  • Rave on, Keeferman!

  • this is more updated version of the great song written by Buddy Holly! loved it, Keef doesn't do bad songs!

  • anybody know where i can get the guitar tabs of this song?

  • from a Buddy Holly songbook.

  • oh i want that telecaster

  • No of course the Filipino boat people in refugee Superman T-shirts don't know what the hell is going on. But at least the rest of us know.

  • legend!!!

  • Keith=God

  • wheres mick?

  • Over half of the audience doesn't have a clue who originally wrote this song. But I'm glad to see that Keith Richards hasn't forgotten one of his idols.

  • Great rendition of the Buddy Holly classic that only has one verse and one chorus. The Stones have always loved Buddy's music. Their first hit was "Not Fade Away." Keith is without doubt the most emotional guitarist in history. You might argue that Clapton or Knoffler, SRV or Van Halen may have more technique. But, you would be hard pressed to find anyone with more intensity or honesty. I love him.

  • Check out Keith's version of Eddie Cochran's "Somethin' Else". Them Stones respect the roots! That's why they kick such ass!

  • felicidades tio keith

  • God, he's got the best guitar sound in the whole world, his style is amazing. I don't want to get any purists upset, but I've got this on the Bigger Bang box set, and when Jagger comes back on after this song, it's just like "Oh shit, here comes the annoying monkey" I love the Stones, but I think Keith is so much more charming and is way cooler than Jagger ever was

  • Keith Richard, I fuckin' love you man. Your the guitarist in the biggest rock n roll band in the world, and all you seem to want to do is make people aware of the best of Rock n roll. You tried to make the shite sound of Chuck Berry relate to what he's really trying to do, cos, i agree he's a fuckin icon. You're agreat dude Keef. (p.s. before i get the comments, i know this msg aint gettin to KR guys.

    Mikey xx

  • I don't know this one, but it's absolute perfection.

  • I love Keith and I love Buddy.

    RIP Buddy

  • Whether you fell down in the Beatles or Stones camp in the 60's, they both took their derivative from Berry, Blues and Holly!!!!.

Guy's, we're ALL only learning the game.

    Mikey xx

  • afoch geil

  • Buddy Holly is my favourite singer, and the Stones my top group (band). I like this version because Keith does not try to copy Buddy, but gives it his own interpretation. Great.

  • Great version Stones

    Keep the memory going

    UP THE DARTS

  • Well done Keith

    Keep the memory going

    UP THE DARTS !!

  • What a gem of a video. He put some heart into that one.

  • You know what you are talking about

    Well done Keith

I remember him at school in Dartford Tech I played the washboard in 1st year Skiffle Group and always thought I inspired him ! (NOT)

More likely it was a case of ' if I can't do better than that ....... !'

    MEMORIES !!

  • Keith is a stellar guitarist. This tribute to Buddy Holly is heartfelt. Nice Going Keith!!

  • LOVE IT!

  • Keith has so much heart and spirit......he may not be the best looking legend, but he sure knows his way around an axe!

  • beautiful song. i love it

I don't know what there is on the guitar of keith lol.amazing

  • I don't know who loved Buddy Holly more Paul McCartney, Keith Richard, or Bob Dylan?? Anyhow, yeah, the talc prevents slipping and also that annoying finger on string sound you hear from alot of guitarists - especially the ones with no verve! Cheers!

  • That powder is icing sugar off a donut he ate b4 the gig.

  • the powder is i think baby powder or chalk to stop his hand getting sweaty (i doubt its cocaine lol!)

  • What is that powder that comes off Keith's guitar?

  • Talcum powder to absorb sweat and to prevent slipping. It is not cocaine.

  • I thought it was excess tobacco from the cigarettes.

  • No the talcum power absorbs some of Keith's sweat so his hand doesn't slip. If you noticed he has sanded the lacquer finish off the neck of his guitar as well to decrease slipping. A lot of people sand their guitar necks these days because newer guitars have even thicker gloss coats.

  • I thought that was from alot of usage and fabrados.

  • Oh, it's nothing, guitar is just soooo dusty... :-)

No, seriously, it's because of swetting. Same stuf is used by gymnasticks

  • oh ok then

  • "..?" You don't even know what song your posting?

BTW The song is called the Learning the Game from Zilker Park in Austin.

  • Thank you kindly mr drummerkid for throwing shit into me face ≈≈≈ Yea, I sure DID know what I was posting my dear, the title was kinda inside joke between us ol' farts though. After being banned for the 3rd time n having uploaded for about 700 vids here I thought we're little by little learning the game..?

  • Hey, wasn't that guy in "Pirates of the Caribbean III?" Seriously, though, this is a pretty good version of Buddy's (in my view, anyway,) masterpiece.

  • yes Keith was in Pirates.

  • Great version of Buddy Holly, more inspiration

    Keith Richards Guauuuuuuuuu jejeje

  • In a billion years there will be nothing left on Earth except cockroaches and Keith Richards. Rock on, Mate! You'll never die!

  • ha-ha ... I couldn't have phrased-It better.

  • fucking amazing, this pirate keeps surprising me, picking up this old rusty song and adding such a new fresh and sweet flavour..slipping away baby

  • awesome
