Tsunamis work differently than other waves. The worst damage they do is when they pull back out. They pull with such a force that it pulls you under and you drown. So, basically, run for your life and hang onto something amazingly strong with all your life.

I live in california, WE GOT A LOT OF EARTHQUAKES A YEAR!!! not tsunamis (thanks god) But lots of them are little quakes, less than the 10% of the earthquakes are big :(
