@rudemood as a buyer from @theauctionguydan i can tell you that the show is real and the units are real. I would say 1 in 30 or so have something really good. It's all in looking for the clues that are in front of you when you look at the unit. We paid $1100 for a unit today and scored $3500 in gold and jewelry plus about $1k on product to sell. Of course I also bought a unit last week for $275 and hauled it all to the dump. Every box and tote was empty.
@theauctionguydan Oh I love it. I dvr every episode. Let me ask you though do people find really good stuff like whats on the show all the time or does a&e just show that one locker out of 200 where there are good items. All my friends thinks that the show is faking telling me that nobody would leave valuable things in lockers like that which I agree with but I can see someone dying or something like that. I wouldn't think it would be a everyday occurance but I can see how it happens
Great question. The truth is, we have sold more valuable items than what the networks have filmed. There is valuable stuff stored all across America. Sometimes this valuable stuff does not get paid for and is auctioned. The smart buyers do make money most of the time, if they buy well and work hard and are a diversified seller ie: ebay, craigslist, yard sales, auction houses, Buying units can be a gamble that sometimes, absolutely can pay off big time.
I noticed some of your shows the people buying seem a little cheap that must be a little frustrating seeing that from time to time, watching something worth 2500 dollars only being bid 100 or 200 bucks and you usually sell it at that.
@Trendwin As auctioneers, we work on an average. If the average sold lot is good, then selling some items, sometimes really cheap does not feel so bad. An old auctioneer named Jack Cross told me once " take a little cream and let a little go to the next guy" I think he meant don't be greedy and think you are the only one that should make money and be happy for those around you that do make money. And always be happy that a guy at least offered you something.
I absolutely love watching these auctions, I wish there was more NEW storage wars seems to be too many reruns. better get on AE's asses about more new shows dan :D
Do you ever get backlash from the people who lose all their stuff? Dan's a lucky man too, Laura is gorgeous!
