  • Will somebody please make the original non-quite one? It would much appreciated

  • this song is kind of boring...

  • Ice Cream! We all like Ice Cream right? (I guess I am trying to cheer some cats on here...stay strong tubers)

  • does anyone know what this version is called? there are so many versions ;P

  • The day my world went away, Dec 18, 2009. I lost my job, then after caring for my dad the whole year of 2010, lost him. The world is a harsh place. If you havent worked very long you are considered unhirable. What do you do then? Instinct takes over. Its 2012 now and close to the ends. You suck the world in and take it for what its worth.

  • Dexter brought me here.

  • The world is going away everyday. Humans are consuming everything.

  • I used to write songs like this until I took an arrow to the knee.

  • no words can describe how much I love this song

  • This song (to me) describes the way the world has, and always will be. It's the realization that the world never was.. and that awakening is the day the abyss steals the world you thought you knew. I don't know you, and you dont know yourself-- I don't know myself. All I know is that I don't want to fall in with the Others.. so how can you Be and not fall in with the Others before you know who you really are?

  • @mirnersa- relax.... no one really cares about who you really are.... there so busy trying to manage their lives that they have no time to consider anything else.... red waters....

  • in which record is this version? this is in my opinion the best of all versions....has the quietness of the still version....the voices in the last verse sounds like the walls in my room came to life....

  • @zzajbird i think its off of and all that could have been

  • You know, I am always told this isn't true or I'm crazy, but look at the sky, the world is back now-and better than ever.

  • 1 - blaze

2 - put on headphones to the soothing nin playlist you made

3 - awaken a new human being ready to fuck shit up.. WITH YOUR MIND!

  • man, i love their "more emotional trips"

... like lights in the sky, right where it belongs and that one.

Does anyone know more similar to these?

  • @MyArcady Check out Steven Wilson and the entire catalog of Porcupine Tree. You may not like everything but you will most certainly find something that will suit what you are looking for.

  • @MyArcady Start your search with Steven Wilson's "Harmony Korine" track from Insurgentes. Listen to the track 5 times and you will never look back. Stay thirsty my friend!

  • Trent is amazing. He's the only man I love and I'm a lesbian.

  • @TheDeathnotejunkie huh gross

  • Something definitely is wrong with rock music if Trent says so. Why that? Because he delivers alot better music then TONS of other "artists".

I dont even need to compare, just fucking listen.

After the 80s, stuff went downhill rapidly.

But that last part is my personal opinion.

  • which album is this on??

  • @darian617 so sorry man:(

  • @PlexusMusic Why don't you go be a dick somewhere else?

  • I heard this song after my dad died in iraq when i was like 11. I couldn't help but cry. That was the day my whole world went away. That is when i started to realize how corrupt our government really is. Look at what Bush accomplished. Look at Obama Now. America is falling apart. We hide behind this small insignificant thing we call our life while our world is going away. What sucks is we cant do shit about it. Fuck politicians.

  • @darian617 noooooooooooooo one care's. Have a good one.

  • @darian617 course we can do shit, you having the notion in your head that you cant do shit about it is what politicians want. You go on the news all the time and they will say NO its not possible, NO this , NO that. Fuck it man, just take a risk, be smart and do what u gotta do.

  • @darian617 Cool story, bro

  • @Graysonfball77 douche...

  • @kingsmiles1 hey man, if he's gonna come here and bitch about not controlling who's in power in a democracy, i think he's entitled to a little criticism

  • @Graysonfball77 as are you

  • @kingsmiles1 why am i? because i pointed out that he complains about something that doesnt' make sense? who's the real douche?

  • @Graysonfball77 You.

  • @kingsmiles1 alright, let's hear your genious reason why i'm the bad guy

  • @darian617 im sorry for your dad..we can do everything about it. let the passion take you higher. use it as a stepping stone to accomplish things that others cant. let other feel what you feel and lets start this game over *reset*

  • @darian617 We're all victims of ignorance. Educate and arm yourself with true knowledge and use that against the corrupt corporation currently known as the World Government.

Saying that you can't do anything about it, and not doing anything about it just puts you on the side lines, waiting for the firing squads once everything else has been taken.

  • @darian617

Darian, I do understand what you mean. (And without any kind of disrespect)

Your Father died for "something" that seemed important before and now has become "insignificant"...

  • @bmgsantos There was no disrespect. I understand. this is the one thing that makes me hate our government the most. From my POV it was insignificant to begin with. I understand "american pride" and the hate for insurgencies after 9/11. But we have technology, that they don't. Why sacrifice irreplaceable human lives? Be that life physically or mentally? Im not saying nuclear devices are the best route, as many other innocents could be killed.

  • @darian617 Let's leave one each other with their own beliefs.

We can't have democracy or incute democracy just because we think that is the perfect way of living.

Every time we make conclusions like that it's because we are not seeing the real consequences of making that decision.

One of mine POV is... There isn't a perfect way of living and that's the truth way to see people and what they are as society. We are not perfect nor everybody has to be or live into the American spirit...

  • @bmgsantos If you think about it, there are consequences for EVERY action we take part in. Be it good or bad. And i agree, there is no "Perfect Way" to live whatsoever. When people say "The American Dream" it makes me sick. What a joke that is. There are people all over the world living with so much less and still getting buy without complaint. We find democracy as the perfect way of life because we were born into a country filled with capitalism. The way i see it, our Gov. Is all about lies.

  • @darian617 (cont.)

But why US keep thinking that has to police the world...?

If the US keeps on doing "wars" without a real cause, those actions will seem always meaningless to the true valor of the any army and what be should pursuit...

The latest conflicts that US have been, your government has used the "peacekeeping motive" to disguise what really want to obtain, which is profit and control.

  • @darian617 i agree, my feeling is the same. but i disagree, i believe we can do shit about it. at least in our everyday life.

  • @darian617 Sorry about your loss. i cant even imagine how hard did it was for you.

And yeah FUCK politicians bastards, i can tell you the big shit they are... im from Spain...

  • @darian617 Ron Paul 2012 is all I can say about that. If they had listened to Ron Paul then your father and thousands of others would still be alive today.

  • This goes beyond why, the real question is how can you physically dislike this?!

  • I fucking love Trent Reznor... I would have is child if I could... and I'm a straight guy!

  • @rexhunter1 facepalm to the fourth power

  • so theres like 50 versions of this song.. which version is this one?

  • This song...this version, especially, seems to put tears in my eyes.

  • Touching Evil brought me here

  • trent explains the effect of amphetamines, again ;D

  • This song can mean so much...For me it speaks about how folks can say thing like they'll be there for you , but in the end those words were empty , and the world they lead you to believe in shatters when they stray away...

  • I first heard this song in the Terminator Salvation trailers. Awesome song. Although i typically don't like NIN.

  • NIN saved my life. When I had depressions, I listened to them and got hope in the midths of despair. Thanx Trent for this.

  • I hope trent never stops making music, because if he did that would be the day the whole world went away.

  • i love you trent raznor

  • @ffm20zaheri reznor you fuck.

  • Trent Reznor killed my brother in a traffic accident while drunk driving the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile, but damn I still love this song.

  • @Fightosaurus i hope to God in heaven that is true

  • one of the greatest songs ever made :))))

  • This song was playing in the background as my brother died giving birth to our butt baby. I named him Milky-Tan.

  • i'm confused. I just started listening to NIN

why does this The Day The World Went Away video sound completely different from the other The Day The World Went Away video??

    it's not a remix

  • @ItsRyanStudios i think its called the quiet version or something like that i dont really know but im with you on thatone

  • @ItsRyanStudios live, remixed, still version, quiet version.. which one do you wanna listen to?

  • What are you going to do about anything you weakling. Your not worthy of being called a pansy! If you had to live the life I was born into you would have killed yourselve/s and how could you know? Don't tell me to calm down unless you can give me life, through coin or love or some salvation... can you give me that? Don't be so eager to deal out judgments on people with your suggestion/s. I could say "fuck you what,do you know?" or I could take solace in that ur another idiot lacking understanding

  • new poem Mirrors on fire My images are opaque Wings of razor I bleed each time I reach for the sky I turned the sky into stone The altar of my anguish The stars my bleeding wrists Under their dust I spread my wings This constant pain Is keeping me discolored
  • I don't know how Christmas day started so well and is ending so badly. If this day turned out this way... this most meaningful of days... I can't bear to think about what the rest of this life is going to burn like... I dont think its a matter of importance wether I live or die... and death I welcome soon soone as it may lay hands on my body! in the way of the Lord that is just. He must choose one of 100000 reasons why to condem me. Or he has begun to condem me with all.theWhole worldSucks

  • @Usmcspartan420

    Everything okay?

  • @dracosummoner No sir it is not.... but indeed I thank you for asking,if you ask truly and this is not a sarcastic remark. I'll choose to believe your genuinely curious about the fact,so therefore I return the care upon you;how are you... is everything ok?

  • @Usmcspartan420

I am good, thank God, thanks for asking. I hope ... I hope and pray things improve for you soon. :-|

  • @Usmcspartan420

Oops, somehow I missed your comment. I am doing well, thank God, thanks. Just trying to get some stuff straightened out ...

  • @Usmcspartan420 calm down... please

  • .......................I LIKE WAFFLES!

hehehe this page needed some cheering up, with all the gloomy poems and what not!

but seriously great video! love it! extra heart!

  • @dogzilla0578 Waffles? Don't you mean carrots?

  • @Amarant1994 Waffles flavored carrots!!! X)

  • @Amarant1994 ah, a fellow redditor xD

  • you know i had no idea thta this was the first version. I thought the one used for the terminator movie was the original. i like this version! its very relaxing! :)

  • Sadly, the best part is AFTER the lead singer shuts up. APC and Nine Inch Nails are "good" bands.... not "great." They fuck up a lot of what could be "great" songs by being whiney assholes. Fuck 'em.

  • death come

  • Comment removed

  • I love the winter. Such a great time to reflect on everything.

  • This song always makes the rest of the world melt away for a brief moment. Simply amazing.

  • Comment removed

  • BEAUTIFUL VIDEO... GOOD JOB... SORRY I'M YELLING BUT THE REST OF EM DON'T SHUT UP :)

  • @jusca419 funny how you're judging emo and talking about not being judgemental.

  • @fbrdj thats because 'emo' WAS a terrible fad... most emo kids weren't even born when trent was rocking pretty hate machine in 1987. this man is a musical hero to anyone with ears... he will forever be the heart of 'dark' music, forever.

  • @tohellwithpurplepeop if we're talking about those black eyed kids, then yep. But real emo was/is great and has survived these copycats. Btw. this song is killer, so are nin.

  • new poem

    Chained among roses

Dead skin trapped among their thorns

    They move like butterfly wings

    Each time I breath

    Blood stains the bed sheets

    Waiting to be washed away

    Watch my pain bloom

    As we taste like dirt

  • People do not listen to Nine Inch Nails to listen to how great or bad Trent Reznor sings, Its like complaining how a Disney animated movie doesn't look "realistic". For all you who are only interested in a cult of personality, there's tons of others you can look up here. Let NIN fans appreciate the MUSIC that Reznor creates.

  • new poem

Would you mind sharing a dream

    Teaching me a true smile

My heart is an inhabited planet

Grab my hand and let’s go there

Did you see the wonders in me

What my scars have to offer

    Undress the clouds

Handcuff the stars to the moon

As we lie down staring at the ceiling

  • I THOUGHT I'D GO OUT AND PLAY

    I TORTURED AND MAIMED

    I NEVER GOT BLAMED

WHEN THE COPS ASKED I KNEW JUST WHAT TO SAY

    MY MY HEY HEY

BETTER TO BURN OUT THAN TO FADE AWAY.

  • As chilly as this autumn monday evening, as desolated as this cold monday feeling, so much went on and now it's gone. Man, mondays suck.

  • this version isnt the original. was this rerecorded for the terminator movie?

  • @Fernandoandretn Nope, it's a quiet version, from Halo 13. The one that starts of with Trent singing NA NA NA NAH. LIke the guy below said, it's just past that singing section.

  • If you can find the Quiet version that starts out with trent going NAH, NAH NAH, NAH NAH its the same song past that part. I havent found this above version without the singing in the beginning, (which i find annoying)

just fyi took me a while to figure out

  • new poem Life paved by superstitions Abandoning the pain this body has endured The tears are finally drying Cutting flowers before they bloom I have the razor among my wrists As your voice still whispers in my ears Slowly warm water turns red Like the sky during sunset You can mock me and insult me again But I have finally closed the door from you You better pray that nothing exists Because if it is does I will be The self mutilated demon Haunting you tomorrow
  • Trent Reznor is an absolute lyrical genious......not to mention he is a one man band (except for live) He plays guitar, sings, drum machines, and bass, all by himself....and he has been around since late 80's thats more than 20 years.........there is noone else like him. He is complete Industrial to all of those who question it. He was out way before "EMO" was even heard of. Yes his songs are EMOtional, very emotional, but that is where the line is drawn musically. musical genius. :)

  • Oh god how i love hipsters, wicked song though

  • Trent Reznor's music is really attatched no genre. Really the genre is Reznor. haha. his music is so original and unique.

  • here's the bottom line: emo and emotional are 2 different fucking things

  • new poem My hate goes deeper then the hole I am digging Sweat like a morning rain is gently falling down As the dirt is covering your lips We were never meant to stay alive The bruises on your neck Look like a necklace of falling scars As I make a wish upon each one of them While you are going to the silent place I am here pushing dirt Can you still hear my voice like A cloud would hear a prayer Gasping for happiness With a rope I am going to the silent place
  • Can we not just enjoy this for what it is, and let the song stand on its own, without all this squabbling, musical snobbery and classification. Gothic/Industrial/Emo - the're just words and are so vague people can barely decide what they even MEAN - never mind what actually falls under which catagory.

Let's just call this "The Day The World Went Away" and appreciate it for what it is, not what it 'should' be called....

  • @SteABW And what it is is one of the best songs ever produced!

I am wondering, though, does anybody know what version this is?

  • i Don't trust in anyone that doesn't like NIN.

  • I completely agree with you jusca419.

  • Emo = Emotion...

I don't know who characterized it as being associated with mop tops, eye liner and screaming. Everyone is Emo. The argument is moot.

  • new poem So many opportunities Are gone like dry leaves So many dreams We have forgot to dream Tell me tears If you were sincere Did you come out to the world alone? Were you dressed up with anger? You did not reach the ground Was it a caring hand or a fist that grabbed you in the air? Always looking down Are the shadows of people friendlier than their masks? Turn on the TV again Do we always have nothing to talk about?
  • which version of the song is this?

  • Sure smells like elitism in here.

  • Chopin would be blown away. Deep in his heart, I hope Trent knows this.

  • This Album... "The Fragile" was the last thing that my brother Anthony gave me before he died. He gave it to me on my 21st birthday... exactly 7 days later my grandmother told me Anthony was dead, chased a bottle of pills with a bottle of a Tequila Rose. This was November 11, 7 years later, my grandmother died November 11th, which was also her birthday. Sometimes the music is more than just the words and the lyrics. I must have listened to this song on repeat for a month strait. Phoenix do rise.

  • @stolkalforhire man, your story really touched me! sometimes music seems to be the only thing which remains for everyone of us...

  • @stolkalforhire my brother did the same thing before he was shot..beautiful album.

  • @stolkalforhire as 'touching' as this story is, it doesn't really say anything to the song. Seems like a reddit sentiment reply, tbh.

  • @stolkalforhire shit happens for a reason. take it from me, in and outta jail, on my way to prison for heroin possesion. figure out who u are, your experiences make you. be real. be safe.

  • @stolkalforhire Yuck Tequila Rose

  • @stolkalforhire I believe this was the song Trent Reznor wrote shortly after his grandmother passed. Music has amazing powers.

  • @stolkalforhire I believe this was the song Trent Reznor wrote shortly after his grandmother passed. Music has amazing powers.

  • @stolkalforhire wow sorry about that it had to be pretty bad i lost my friend last year in a car accident on her way to school

  • @stolkalforhire Ya know....I feel yer pain bud....Dun sweat it. your grandmother and brother are in a better place...I know it's been over 7 years but the pain will never subside...

My brother's best friend who basically I adopted as a brother ended his life back in 2000 and the pain still lingers with me and my older brother, considering he saw him...

  • @stolkalforhire 11/11 is my birthday too. :O

  • @stolkalforhire im sorry, this may sound crazy, but maybe your family is being linked together in a certain fashion, kind of like a reunion, somebody joins another that is passed on November 11, coincidence or fate, this song touches me and it sounds like you too, stay strong brother, make sure to take good care of this album and hold it as a memory of your brother

  • @stolkalforhire just wait until october 11th rolls around this year

  • @stolkalforhire

    My condolences.

  • @stolkalforhire My best wishes for your life......

If the music from Trent helps, i hope you can hear it further....

  • Comment removed

  • @stolkalforhire So sorry for your loss. My sister gave me this single for Christmas years ago. It was the last thing she gave me. She didn't die but she is a took a different path in life and she is very different. So in a sense part of her did die and that sisterly bond we had is gone too. I too have listened to this song on repeat for hours on end.

  • How Is This Song Emo??? Linkin Park Is Some Emo Shit Right THeir

  • @niggahigga123able Linkin Park is not emo, it's Nu-metal and Rap Metal, emo is something like My Chemichal Romance or something like that but Linkin Park is Rap Metal or Nu metal.

  • For inspiration on this song he recalled the day his dog past...you all know the one in the Perfect Drug video...skip to my lou bitches and eat some truth.

  • When I read the lyrics, it sounds like he's talking about a particular person. Though, I think when he refers to "he", he's talking about society itself.

A greek philosopher once said " I will not die, it is the world that will end." Perhaps Reznor is portraying a collective perspective of humanity in a existentialist metaphor.

  • The song sounds like Faith no more - the real thing

  • new poem Wasted sun rise Running after other people’s expectations Unreachable dreams Like stars always shining in my face And my screams their sky A confused mirror Is unsure of what to reflect in front of me Glimpse of self-awareness in pain Happy seconds buried by the hours of torment In a road away from light Any moment of happiness Has been chemically induced I took more than what I could handle As I crawl in a pavement made of nails Towards my emptiness
  • great trip music and great band.

if you get the chance to see them in concert do it. especially if touring with tool or a perfect circle.

  • Anyone who calls this emo music needs to go shoot themselves in the foot. Just because "emo" kids listen to this doesn't mean that is what it is. I agree with every last single fucking word jusca419 said. Don't ever call this emo again. You want emo, then take your asses to listen to Fagout Boy. Thanks.

  • new poem

Dead like the light of the moon

    Forced to show emotions

    To shine among filth

    In a web of thorns

    I watch my heart lacerating

I set my dreams on fire

To wake up on a bed of ashes

  • powerful song! really liked it, tis nothing i have ever heard before. 5 stars ;)

  • All this talk about NIN being emo or not, does it even really matter? If you like the music then keep on listening to it. But if your going to listen to a certain type of music because of the label it has, then in my opinion theres no point of music at all. Music is the noise that explains the emotions and feelings inside of you. Honestly I don't care about labels or things like that. If NIN really is emo music then I love emo music!

  • i can't find the mp3 version of this song anywhere! any got a link i download from or a site i can go to. i don't even mind coming out the pockets for this version.

  • new poem Your need for me Was nothing more than a passing winter My feeling migrated to a warmer place Frozen the parts of me that chose to stay My emptiness will be their grave Bruises under each caress Each time you notice me I shiver Will I believe to the point I bleed? Will I believe in heaven so desperately? Even though it will condemn me The taste of blood In a glass after being purified I pled to take more As long as I belong to something
  • Don't talk about a suck ass band like tool here and I won't take a shit on your plate when your eating.

  • @ScorpioLovers08 Tool is fucking awesome. Tool is actually quite similar to NIN in some of their songs.

  • new poem I would burn everything Under a rain of ashes I would wash away my thoughts With a razor among my lips I softly kiss my skin As my tongue tastes my metal Lips are dripping life like the first spring bloom I never cared for the panorama of life More than once its beauty has pushed me away Like a piece of dirt under someones nail Pieces of skin are falling into the ground Hidden cuts never have to explain themselves Even if they burn like a familys silence
  • @darkreliquum Awful. Kill yourself.

  • @CaribDevist Hahahahaha

  • @darkreliquum wow, so good!

  • @spockezri

thank you how did you read it I thought they marked me as spam

  • @darkreliquum you can click "show" ^_^

  • i remeber the ice storm here in kentucky it was pretty extreme short on gas and food no stores where open and if they were they had nothing you needed yep that was the one time we had to keep our guns loaded cuz things was getting out of hand

  • The Day the World went Away could singing about Nuclear Winter or Religion getting out of hand or BIg Brother finally taking over the Legal System

  • would someone tell me what album this version of this song is from?

  • It's pretty good but would have been better if you synced it with the music... Just saying

  • FLIPPIN awesoem song i love it

  • You don't find original sounding bands like NIN anymore. Bands these days are so generic and unoriginal that it's difficult to tell them apart, and they have no substance.

  • Sadly, even newer NIN does not sound like older NIN. The 90s had the last of the best music. 00s have brought us nothing which compares.

  • yeah, 21th century sucks if u compaire ith with movies&music from the 90's, 80's etc. nothing is original annymore and almost everything these days is with computers.

  • @Maverick6429 Well, see Trent Reznor has changed and won't make such music because he doesn't feel the same.

  • Well, that's only true with the bands that are marketed to mainstream consumption. There are a couple select bands around today that don't sound like shitcock.

  • Which bands?

  • @Markohoppis Well, it depends on what you mean by "today". If you mean active bands that are actually still producing music at this specific point in time, I guess you could include Cage the Elephant, and Stone Temple Pilots (which will be releasing an album in May).

Stone Temple Pilots was more famous in the 90's, and they broke up for a few years, but they're back, which is goddamned awesome.

  • god is an astronaut, mogwai, this will destroy you, jesu, explosions in the sky. if you're looking for original and fantastic bands of the 21st century.

  • just like TOOL

  • @Markohoppis Get out and look...Thank you douche bag for just proving the point if it ain't easy then why bother ...right? Get out on look for music it might be the one thing fucking MySpace is good for...

  • @Markohoppis For the most part, I agree, but there are some stellar gems out there. Coheed &Cambria and Muse are the first two that I think of. Of course they're not in the same style or anything like that, but their talent can not be disputed. But, yes, I would love to hear a group come around and bring something unique and powerful to the game like NIN or Tool again.
