  • ..Damn great song..and *Save It For Later*...Dave has a great voice, The 80s were awesome, a great time to be young, dumb, and still have hope....

  • This is why I thank God for being born in the 1970's. Because in the 80's WE RULED! I clearly remember going to the movies and hearing this in Weird Science!

  • Can someone upload the Holmes cover of this song?? I love it possible more then the original... and I love the original. Search tenderness cover by holmes - it's out there!

  • brb, whisting in a graveyard

  • Makes me proud to have been alive in 1984

  • @yourstupid36 1984 sucks!!!! 1983 is what's happenin

  • General Public wasn't underrated or obscure as some posted here, they were The Beat, better known in the US as The English Beat, the best blend of Ska and New Romantics that ever existed, only Madness could be uttered in the same sentence if you were a fan. It's no "guilty pleasure" either, this was A#1 quality music, "Don't worry, be happy" is a guilty pleasure my friends. Now where did I put my scooter, my bowling shoes and my trenchcoat?

  • @wyattspop and don't forget your tortoise shell Ray Ban 'Wayfarer' shades - the ones with the wire frame on the bottom half of the lens.

  • "We forgot to hook up the doll!"

  • Makes me want to go back in time.

  • Wierd Science yeah bra..

  • This one brings back memories. Class of '84 baby!

  • This video still confuses the shit out of me lol

  • I remember this song when I was really young. I had a dream once and this song was playing. I used to thing it was by Men At Work. Cuz it sounds like them

  • the little girl @0:14 looks like a young bindi irwin.

  • where can I download this song?!

  • @iamjlush E-mule

  • @iamjlush

    It is playing on this page!!!!! google capturing youtube. I normally would flame you for being so out of it but I have changed my ways. God bless you all.

  • Great song really sets the mood.

  • Loved this since I heard it in Clueless!

  • haha! woot woot!

  • Diamond Dave Kaplan, baby!

  • In no way is this song a guilty pleasure. I like pretty much all music from punk (crass, Zounds, conflict, Clash) to reggae (Burning Spear, Culture...ect). However, I regard this as one of the finest pop songs of all time. General Public were severely underrated. Great band.

  • Saw these guys in Northampton, MA after seeing The Beat at UMass. Amazing-Forgot how hot Wakeling was! And how energetic Ranking Roger is on stage. But Ugh! Weird Science? That film was an excuse for teen boys to J*** it to Kelly LeBrock. Even John Cusack wasn't funny in it. Clueless however, is a classic. Either way, listen to it w/o any films as it was meant.

  • @JaneSmithCEO Well, I would expect a lady to like Clueless more than Weird Science, respectfully. W.S. is a movie for us dudes.

  • I love weird science and this song is a guilty pleasure of mine, but why does it sound like an asthmatic is cumming at the beginning? O.o

  • I'm really proud of this video for not having the top comment as something to the tune of, "30 people don't know where the tenderness is."

  • uber queer.

  • They were my first concert, they performed at UCLA and I somehow managed to end up there, at like 9 years old. I remember some nice guy carried me on his shoulders so I could the band....pretty fearles for a 9 year old, I was blown away...

  • el moreno se ve muy gay.

  • este tipo tiene voz de negro

  • i can see where the Cure got their influence from

  • @TejasRCpilot Actually, it would be the other way around. The Cure started in the mid 70's, long before GP. Both are great bands though.

  • @skiggy007 cool, i did not know that

  • i love the beat to this song.

  • @ibanedfrmrs2 Me too! :D

  • I always loved this song growing up, but never paid attention to who the band was until it was featured in the movie Clueless.

  • Ah, the scene when Gary escorts his date back home after a wild night......"Weird Science" forever!

  • @crockett007 who is this Gary character?

  • @bblokes Gary was played by Anthony Michael Hall.

  • @crockett007 Just saw it for the first time and I must say, it was a bizarre, heartfelt, and really funny movie. And that scene made it all the better.

    "Weird Science" brought me here.

  • i GIVE IT 10 SNAPS UP

  • this always reminds me of Clueless :)

  • in the 80s this was cute now a days this is fraken GAY

  • Like Exactly! - to everyone who mentions "Clueless".

  • CLUELESS classic...

  • Love the 80s and LOVE this song!

  • Perfect Song

  • Both guys look like the biggest wussies in this video.

  • Something Missing...Where Is It

  • We are just truly able to appreciate how the 80s were way ahead of their times

  • i love this song so much.

    i gotta take a shit.

  • @hellradio...wrong. Dave is the lead singer and its his voice which has made his bands so unique

  • I could enjoy the 80's from the begining to the end ,and this song still make me feel back to that time and my feet start moving to the same speed .....is amazing

  • love when the blondie swallows his note! how real is that!

  • i think this song was the reason david caplan got his ass kicked by junie browing

  • @TheOmegaRiddler Hey, what've you got against my uncle?

  • Interesting how the white guy is in the foreground and lip syncing the lead vocals while clearly the black guy is the lead vocalist.

  • @dsitruc If you listened to the English Beat, you'd know that yes the "white guy" is the singer and his name is Dave Wakeling.

  • i loved the" beat" but these guy's suck,(no pun ...)

  • this son is very nice

  • England,G.B.,Ireland,bands/groups from across the "pond"were soo much better than bands here in the U.S. back in the 80's they had a sound/beat that was so ahead of its time,thats why these songs keep showing up in so many movies nowadays or get redone by American singers.music today is so boring.they should play 80's music on the radio everyday.

  • The Remaining members went on to form Fine Young Cannibals and The Beat!!

  • Former members of the English Beat one of the best Two tone Ska bands of all

    time,

  • that thumbnail freaks me the fuck out

  • I'm such an 80's girl.....where did the time go......awesome song!!!!!

  • putting my vote in for gayest music video ever...

    and by gay i mean Gay-Happy gay.

  • Jeeeeez, how can anyone hate on this. This is as good as it gets. The 80's were off the hook. If only there was a time machine!!!!

  • Oh hey i remember this song from weird science!

  • Clueless? Shiiiieeeet... It's all about Weird Science, youngbucks!

  • @poipoundah i remember this from the wedding scene in "Clueless" too!!

  • @poipoundah such a good movie.

  • @poipoundah THANK YOU!!!! AS IF? LOL. People forget it was some cool stuff before the 1990's.

  • @poipoundah You know the typical teenage party: chips and dip, chains and whips

  • this is near perfect pop. the bridge, with it's tremolo picking and drum roll is astounding. great tune. truly timeless.

  • His voice!

  • This is just one of those " Feel Good " songs from the 80's! :-D It just makes you wanna get up and dance! Yes, Tenderness. We need it today! The great thing about the 80's is that any singer could be or look the way they wanted and we accepted it all! It was all so cool and awesome! I danced my heart out to this song at the school dances. School dances, skating, the pool, the park, all the fun places to be with your friends and some awesome music! Yeah! It just ended way too soon and I miss it.

  • Love this song!! Wow, Tenderness!! :)

  • Every time I hear this song, it makes me want to re-watch "Clueless."

  • @archyteckie08 Same here...love "Clueless"

  • @archyteckie08 Clueless? Go watch "Weird Science" for crying out loud. The original movie this song was used in.

  • @stinkindutchman Yeah, it always makes me think of Weird Science. It's on netflix. Great movie.

  • @stinkindutchman Right on! I was going to post the same thing then I read your comment. If I were Wyatt or Gary, I would have taken Lisa over the two skanky high school girls!

  • @stinkindutchman I simply CANNOT upvote this enough....so here is a guy flipping a table.....(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

  • @stinkindutchman who ever said "Clueless" was just plain clueless....

  • well said, im 23 and love this music

    ~~~
    Mmmmmm. Beautiful tunes ....
  • I need some tenderness
  • 1:47 love his face!
  • Little-known fact: Mick Jones (The Clash) played the guitars on this song.
  • @modularlife great fact. never knew.
  • 1:16 ; )
  • Great song from the 80's? No, great song, PERIOD!
  • Dave Wakeling is the friendliest pop/rock star there is.
    Go see him at the many small venues he now plays and have a chat with him.
    So down to Earth. Great guy.
  • @VersionBeta1 Never thought of it as gay. Sometimes being British and gay get confusing. haha
  • Can someone direct me to the hetero version of this tune?
  • Comment removed
  • I think the reason I loved this is because it was the first pop tune I ever heard that featured a bassoon. Brilliant!
  • Thumbs up if you watched this AFTER watching the video of the the judge beating his daughter.
  • Society does not know
    (and never will) that this is the secret to social harmony. So simple but yet so complicated.
  • This music will always rule in my world!!
  • The movie Clueless brought me here! :) Gotta love it!
  • Good songs stick and bad ones get forgotten, unless they are so bad that they are good, or you just like to sing them ironically to piss people off. The 90's did have some great stuff hidden under larger load of dreck. But that's not unusual for any decade. The crap gets thrown out, and in twenty years only the good stuff will remain of that era. There were a lot of one-hit-wonders in the 80's, too. Boomtown Rats, I am looking your way...no, don't hide behind Dream Acedemy, I can still see you.
  • Anyone ever notice the "classic rock" stations still play music primarily from the 60's and 70's? It's the same with 80's music. Nothing compares. I can't imagine 20 years from now having a station play "classic" music from the 90's and on. blaggh.
  • Ahh... There he is again... Dave Wakeling... What a voice.
  • i love this song!!
  • I just watched "W S" again for the 600+ time and this song still has the same effect as it did back in 1985. If you found your way here because you're a "G P" fan or because you just watched "W S" and this song makes you think of the first person you kissed or wished you had, then it's not about being Gay or Straight, Black or White, old or young, thin or fat, fast or slow, or even left or right. It's about the love of it and what it means to you! So lets just give our hang-ups a rest for 3.38s.
  • I happen to be a man who grew up in the eighties, so I actually enjoy listening to this "gay" music. Why are young men today more phobic as ever about appearing gay? The t.v. is full of flamboyant gay people, yet kids are more uptight about their image than ever before. Boys have to proove their masculinity by listening to empty headed thug rap songs instead enjoying the content of the music, relaxing and being themselves.
  • @benchaffleck maybe its Newtons 3rd law? The overzealousness and attention whoreness of the gay commmunity even gets on my nerves sometimes.
  • @benchaffleck here, here! well said, the 80's was my generation, I wouldn't mind reliving them as an adult. At least people back then actually wrote there own stuff, and not rip it off from some other artist calling there own. Originality has largely become extinct anymore.
  • @benchaffleck I loved the Culture Club. That was some damn good tunes. I have friends who are gay. Do I approve of it -- no. But I don't let it get in the way of my entertainment and friendships.
  • @benchaffleck gay phobia is worse because the phobics are fighting the change
  • @benchaffleck well said, i a 23 year old male and love this
  • @benchaffleck I whole heartedly agree!!!!!
  • @benchaffleck i enjoy this music too and rap isnt to blame for young guys to prove their masculinity
  • @atlgeorgia2015 Rap to blame? No, not what I said. Rap is a tool used by SOME people to prove their masculinity. Hence the masogynistic retoric and emphasis on material wealth.
  • @benchaffleck but how can the music be used to prove your masculinity usually guys do stupid actions to prove their masculinity
  • @atlgeorgia2015 Yeah, I guess peeling out in an Iroc-z, and doing shoulder shrugs until your trapezius and neck muscles are huge and disproportionate would qualify.
  • @benchaffleck ya i would get so muc shit for posting this. they just dont have soul like me
  • @benchaffleck the 80s were full of effeminate STR8 guys too. duran, aerosmith, bon jovi, etc.
  • @benchaffleck it's a shame, aye? not sure when everything changed... it's only normal though, some guys just want to be more of a badass than the next guy - it's the decline of civilization or maybe just a vicious cycle
  • @benchaffleck YES - I kinda miss who we were right up to the nineties.
  • Respond to this video... cute but his singing sucks
  • great song
  • this song makes me wanna bang a girl that looks like Cindy Lauper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • plz send me back to the 80's.
  • Hey towringer.... YOU DUMB ASS.... Big Country is from CANADA. Don't you own a map?
  • I lived in the 80's, and I noticed that there were interracial music groups in Britain, such as this one, Culture Club, Wham, Fine Young Cannibals and Big Country. In America, the groups were either all white or all black.
  • @towringer don't forget Dream Academy (Life in a Northern Town, museum song from Ferris Bueller).
  • @heyfuzzycub Thanks. I'd forgotten about them. Let's also not forget The Thompson Twins.
  • @heyfuzzycub Wrong. The museum song from Dream Academy is Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.
  • @heyfuzzycub I meant them as two separate items: Northern Town & museum song. Of course they also have others too.
  • This song came out in 84.. not in the 90's
  • This song reminds me of the end of Weird Science when Wyatt Donnelly (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) is talking to Hilly (Judie Aronson).
  • song rocks-one of the best of the 80's
  • fcking love this song 5 stars!!!!
  • What's better lil Joe, Amy Winehouse, or Justin beavers? Shut the fuck up
  • @Anthony11598 dont forget lil wayne lol
  • Allah does not 'belong' to me, as a creature. That is a metaphysical distinction. And the essence of divinity, no matter what its name, has no no irreducibly or strictly physical properties that can be, as you put it, "destroyed". The 80's was not "awesome", it was a low watermark of American decadence, faggotry, cocaine, EXTREME GREED AND ABUSES OF ILLEGITIMATE AUTHORITY, nothing but the hangover of the 70's at best.
    And this song still sucks, you flaililng New Wave muppets.
  • They came to Modesto, CA in may of 2003, and I wasn't able to make it. Very regretful over that!
  • I miss the 80's so much!! Please, please take me back to this amazing decade!!
  • sucesso dos anos 80 inesquecivel
