This is why I thank God for being born in the 1970's. Because in the 80's WE RULED! I clearly remember going to the movies and hearing this in Weird Science!
Can someone upload the Holmes cover of this song?? I love it possible more then the original... and I love the original. Search tenderness cover by holmes - it's out there!
General Public wasn't underrated or obscure as some posted here, they were The Beat, better known in the US as The English Beat, the best blend of Ska and New Romantics that ever existed, only Madness could be uttered in the same sentence if you were a fan. It's no "guilty pleasure" either, this was A#1 quality music, "Don't worry, be happy" is a guilty pleasure my friends. Now where did I put my scooter, my bowling shoes and my trenchcoat?
I remember this song when I was really young. I had a dream once and this song was playing. I used to thing it was by Men At Work. Cuz it sounds like them
It is playing on this page!!!!! google capturing youtube. I normally would flame you for being so out of it but I have changed my ways. God bless you all.
In no way is this song a guilty pleasure. I like pretty much all music from punk (crass, Zounds, conflict, Clash) to reggae (Burning Spear, Culture...ect). However, I regard this as one of the finest pop songs of all time. General Public were severely underrated. Great band.
Saw these guys in Northampton, MA after seeing The Beat at UMass. Amazing-Forgot how hot Wakeling was! And how energetic Ranking Roger is on stage. But Ugh! Weird Science? That film was an excuse for teen boys to J*** it to Kelly LeBrock. Even John Cusack wasn't funny in it. Clueless however, is a classic. Either way, listen to it w/o any films as it was meant.
They were my first concert, they performed at UCLA and I somehow managed to end up there, at like 9 years old. I remember some nice guy carried me on his shoulders so I could the band....pretty fearles for a 9 year old, I was blown away...
Clueless??? Clueless is from 1995. This song is from 1984. This is an 80's classic, not the 90's. The 90's didn't produce stuff like this. The 90's was all about grunge and alternative rock, thug gangster rap, and school shootings, . The 80's was all about fun, really wacky creativity, individuality, and optimism. This is my decade.
I think your the pathetic one sir, because your old enough to know that :D and you'r whole reply was simply pointless... This song is STILL called Tenderness, and the album is STILL called All the Rage and that simple fact is still funny no matter what gay ass explanation you come up with to take up for the boy band you used to beat it to old sir :D (p.s don't take my come backs, and insults to heart it's all in good arguement fun friend) :D
FN CLASSIC TUNE!!! Remember this when me and my brothers were kids. Not only in Weird Science and Clueless, but my wife had it in our wedding CD... bad ass song!
@crockett007 Just saw it for the first time and I must say, it was a bizarre, heartfelt, and really funny movie. And that scene made it all the better.
I could enjoy the 80's from the begining to the end ,and this song still make me feel back to that time and my feet start moving to the same speed .....is amazing
England,G.B.,Ireland,bands/groups from across the "pond"were soo much better than bands here in the U.S. back in the 80's they had a sound/beat that was so ahead of its time, thats why these songs keep showing up in so many movies nowadays or get redone by American singers.music today is so boring.they should play 80's music on the radio everyday.

This is just one of those " Feel Good " songs from the 80's! :-D It just makes you wanna get up and dance! Yes, Tenderness. We need it today! The great thing about the 80's is that any singer could be or look the way they wanted and we accepted it all! It was all so cool and awesome! I danced my heart out to this song at the school dances. School dances, skating, the pool, the park, all the fun places to be with your friends and some awesome music! Yeah! It just ended way too soon and I miss it.

I remember the first time I heard this song was during the end credits for Clueless when I was 15. (1995)I searched and searched (as much as you can with no access to the internet). Definitely one of my top 5 favorite songs ever!!!
Good songs stick and bad ones get forgotten, unless they are so bad that they are good, or you just like to sing them ironically to piss people off. The 90's did have some great stuff hidden under larger load of dreck. But that's not unusual for any decade. The crap gets thrown out, and in twenty years only the good stuff will remain of that era. There were a lot of one-hit-wonders in the 80's, too. Boomtown Rats, I am looking your way...no, don't hide behind Dream Acedemy, I can still see you.
Anyone ever notice the "classic rock" stations still play music primarily from the 60's and 70's? It's the same with 80's music. Nothing compares. I can't imagine 20 years from now having a station play "classic" music from the 90's and on. blaggh.
I just watched "W S" again for the 600+ time and this song still has the same effect as it did back in 1985. If you found your way here because you're a "G P" fan or because you just watched "W S" and this song makes you think of the first person you kissed or wished you had, then it's not about being Gay or Straight, Black or White, old or young, thin or fat, fast or slow, or even left or right. It's about the love of it and what it means to you! So lets just give our hang-ups a rest for 3.38s.
I happen to be a man who grew up in the eighties, so I actually enjoy listening to this "gay" music. Why are young men today more phobic as ever about appearing gay? The t.v. is full of flamboyant gay people, yet kids are more uptight about their image than ever before. Boys have to proove their masculinity by listening to empty headed thug rap songs instead enjoying the content of the music, relaxing and being themselves.
@benchaffleck here, here! well said, the 80's was my generation, I wouldn't mind reliving them as an adult. At least people back then actually wrote there own stuff, and not rip it off from some other artist calling there own. Originality has largely become extinct anymore.
@benchaffleck I loved the Culture Club. That was some damn good tunes. I have friends who are gay. Do I approve of it -- no. But I don't let it get in the way of my entertainment and friendships.
@atlgeorgia2015 Rap to blame? No, not what I said. Rap is a tool used by SOME people to prove their masculinity. Hence the masogynistic retoric and emphasis on material wealth.
@atlgeorgia2015 Yeah, I guess peeling out in an Iroc-z, and doing shoulder shrugs until your trapezius and neck muscles are huge and disproportionate would qualify.
@benchaffleck it's a shame, aye? not sure when everything changed... it's only normal though, some guys just want to be more of a badass than the next guy - it's the decline of civilization or maybe just a vicious cycle
I lived in the 80's, and I noticed that there were interracial music groups in Britain, such as this one, Culture Club, Wham, Fine Young Cannibals and Big Country. In America, the groups were either all white or all black.
Allah does not 'belong' to me, as a creature. That is a metaphysical distinction. And the essence of divinity, no matter what its name, has no no irreducibly or strictly physical properties that can be, as you put it, "destroyed". The 80's was not "awesome", it was a low watermark of American decadence, faggotry, cocaine, EXTREME GREED AND ABUSES OF ILLEGITIMATE AUTHORITY, nothing but the hangover of the 70's at best.
And this song still sucks, you flaililng New Wave muppets.
..Damn great song..and *Save It For Later*...Dave has a great voice, The 80s were awesome, a great time to be young, dumb, and still have hope....

@benchaffleck i enjoy this music too and rap isnt to blame for young guys to prove their masculinity
atlgeorgia2015 2 months ago in playlist Favorite videos
@atlgeorgia2015 Rap to blame? No, not what I said. Rap is a tool used by SOME people to prove their masculinity. Hence the masogynistic retoric and emphasis on material wealth.
benchaffleck 2 months ago
@benchaffleck but how can the music be used to prove your masculinity usually guys do stupid actions to prove their masculinity
atlgeorgia2015 2 months ago
@atlgeorgia2015 Yeah, I guess peeling out in an Iroc-z, and doing shoulder shrugs until your trapezius and neck muscles are huge and disproportionate would qualify.

@benchaffleck it's a shame, aye? not sure when everything changed... it's only normal though, some guys just want to be more of a badass than the next guy - it's the decline of civilization or maybe just a vicious cycle

Hey towringer.... YOU DUMB ASS.... Big Country is from CANADA. Don't you own a map?

I lived in the 80's, and I noticed that there were interracial music groups in Britain, such as this one, Culture Club, Wham, Fine Young Cannibals and Big Country. In America, the groups were either all white or all black.

@towringer don't forget Dream Academy (Life in a Northern Town, museum song from Ferris Bueller).
heyfuzzycub 3 months ago in playlist Clueless Soundtrack
@heyfuzzycub Thanks. I'd forgotten about them. Let's also not forget The Thompson Twins.
towringer 3 months ago
@heyfuzzycub Wrong. The museum song from Dream Academy is Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want.
avramgratz 3 months ago
@heyfuzzycub I meant them as two separate items: Northern Town & museum song. Of course they also have others too.

This song reminds me of the end of Weird Science when Wyatt Donnelly (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) is talking to Hilly (Judie Aronson).

They came to Modesto, CA in may of 2003, and I wasn't able to make it. Very regretful over that!
