  • They were always called Snickers.....they just named it Marathon in the UK.

  • What was the concept of "slicing" a Marathon about, then?

  • Check out the goofy optimism on the faces of those actors. Little did they know, Thatcher was coming.

  • Snickers = Marathon,it was Snickers in the U.S. and Marathon n the U.K. dunno why

  • @bobowayney In the States a Marathon bar is something different.

Look at the advert on YouTube with Patrick Wayne - nothing like a Snickers.

  • it's funny, i never liked them when it was called marathon, but when they renamed it snickers i started lovin them. weird

  • i liked the bit when they said 'peanuts'

  • I miss Marathon. Yeah I know it's just a name.

  • @Symos Marathon, the good old days when people were great and the women naive. Fantastic!!

  • I put mine in the freezer and have it sliced the next day....Yummy!

  • We used to have a joke when I was kid based on these ads. 'Why is a Marathon like squirrel shit?' 'Because they both come up peanuts, slice after slice.' Oh the innocence of youth.

  • Whenever I hear Dan Hartman's "Instant Replay" from around the same time, it always reminds me of this ad. OK, I'm sad, but every time I hear the intro 10..9..8... I expect it to end with "Marathon!".

Oh and you can keep yer Snickers.

  • @GRAHAMAUS "You can keep yer Snickers" What difference does it make what it's called? It's still the same thing!

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz Same difference as between Opal Fruits and Starburst. One is familiar to where the product probably came from in the first place, the other is symbolic of America making everything the same throughout the world (and generally more bland and/or stupid in the process).

  • @feckingbillgates They're doing a half-price offer on lives in Sainsbury's - why don't you get one?

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz Excellent; I haven't heard that kind of comeback since I was at secondary school 20 years ago! Pure nostalgia!

  • @feckingbillgates What I'm getting at is that if you're capable of making such a fuss over something as pathetically trivial as changing brand names then you are a very sad person indeed and need a few lessons in getting your priorities right! There are plenty of people who would be very happy if that was the only problem they had! Whatever the reasons may be for changing them, it's not worth getting worked up about.

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz Lighten up. It's not that serious.

  • @feckingbillgates Exactly!

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz So - try to realise when people are joking, or having a bit of fun, and stop making your blood boil for no reason.

  • @feckingbillgates It's a lot harder to realise that when it's written or typed - it's easier when it's spoken because you can tell by the tone of their voice!

  • so the snickers is a copy of marathon

  • @mohabiraq1 No, marathon was renamed snickers.

  • "holy shit, roasted peanuts in a chocolate bar! its like the 80s are here already!"

  • M! A! R! MARATHON!
