  • It's great!

  • love it you are awsome im getting a EWI this summer

  • Dude you're the man.

  • Very nicely played.

  • You could give me a musical instrument and 20 years of free time and by the end of it the best sounds I could make would most closely resemble a dozen cats in a burlap sac being beaten with a baseball bat.

  • this is awesome

  • I was browsing for Tropical music to see what it sounded like, because I felt like making some myself, and damn. You were an amazing inspiration. Thankyou Glaze. :D

  • damn man, very nice

  • theres no LAPTOP??? whoa if so Imma get one ASAP

  • That was amazing! wish I had an mp3 version

  • amazing!!

  • oh yeah and u rock!

  • Oh no, you rock!

  • hey does that have the same fingerings as a flute?

  • No. It has the exact same fingerings as a saxophone.. But sax and flute are pretty similar... The EWI has like 8 octave keys and the flute has none.

  • oh ok thanks alot!

  • Actually, Jazzman, by default, the EWI4000s fingering is not the same as a sax, but one of the selectable options is to emulate sax fingering (if the EWI has the more recent firmware).

  • hmm.. the one I played on I guess was to emulate a saxophone.. thanks.. good to know

  • The preset fingerings are like a fusion of sax and flute fingerings. However, pretty much everything on the EWI is programmable, including fingerings, so you can set the fingerings however you like, even like a brass instrument.

  • Many woodwind/reed instruments have BASICALLY the same fingering system because it has been determined by the acoustics of the pipe and the abilities of the human hand. Many instruments are augmented by little mechanisms such as those found on a clarinet or sax but again, the acoustics are the underlying factor in determining "fingering".

With the EWI, the fingering is performed by a selectable "look-up table" which gives each key a value to establish what any given combination of keys will do.

  • Having a fingering system based on this look-up table allows finger combinations which would not be valid on a real wind instrument, but on the EWI can yield an easy means of achieving a note which otherwise might be difficult to obtain during a complex fingering sequence.

As Glaze says, it can even be set to emulate the fingering on a brass instrument (known as EVI mode).

As far as making a comparison between EWI and sax fingering, listen to Glaze - He plays both... I've never touched a sax.

  • Falling in love with your music :P

  • That's so fantastic and great that stuff you're doing there. SKILLZ!! Respect. I'm going to buy a EWI myself. I can only play alto and soprano saxophone and drums. ;-)

  • that's so cool!! i can only play the clarinet

    :(

  • lol, dont be so hard on yourself

  • Cool, you can program the EWI to use clarinet fingerings (very close anyway). I'm working on my clarinet/flute chops myself. I am primarily a sax player.

  • sweet thanks!!

  • EG, man, nice stuff! Super hip!

  • sweet

  • Thanks very much!

  • Здорово!!!

  • спасибо! (Gotta love those online translators.)

  • Thanks! Hey, nice work on Cantalope Island (I saw your vid.) That is one of the first tunes I ever learned. Keep at it!

  • Great!!
