  • Thanks for the comment CoffeehouseGirl. The live stitches stay on the needles without dropping off at the tip as long as you keep them at least a half inch away from the tip. The key is to match your yarn to your needle so you have the right level of friction between your needles and your yarn. You don't want to use slippery needles with slippery yarn, that makes the job a lot harder to manage.

  • WHOA! ... very cool. I've never actually seen anyone use double-pointed needles. This is awesome!! How do you keep the yarn from falling off?

(I only ever knit on either straight needles or circular needles and, I'm not very advanced yet!!)

  • what's the meaning of" Fair Isle Knitting "?

  • Fair Isle knitting is named after the Fair Isles off the coast of Scotland where this form of knitting has deep roots. The knitting is always done in two colors, in the round.

  • Yes, this was done in the round so you never need to purl, every round is a knit round. The key is to keep the same color in each hand, ie. always place color A in your right hand, color B in your left hand (avoid using color A in your left hand etc.) for every single row.

  • I was knitting with US size 3 needles from Lantern Moon with Koigu yarn. The Lantern Moon needles are very soft and flexible so they have a lot of give when you are knitting which prevents your hands from getting very sore, as compared to the Imperial Palace dpns which are very stiff and rigid.

  • that is the most smallest yarn n needles i have ever seen xD

  • Looks like finger weighted yarn and size 4 needles. There's smaller. LOL.

  • my eyes are crossed..lol !

  • do the two strands of yarn intertwine as you switch them?

I mean, does the yellow go over the magenta as you go along or does the unused colour hang loosely in the back?

  • the yarns are crossed in the back. The color you're working with ends up being crossed over the non-working color in the back on the right side (knit) rows. On the wrong side (purl) rows, the colors get crossed over the front so you don't have a million floats.

  • Isn't this done in the round? Meaning there is not a purl side - the yarn is carried along the back.

  • This was really helpful. Thank you.
