I thought it was Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence". At least that's how I've always known the melody behind this track. Did Joe copy Ryuichi or was it the other way around? Btw, Sakomoto, who also fronted the awesome Yellow Magic Orchestra, first performed this piece well over 25 odd years ago. Nice to hear it brought back into existence!

Hey I created this song I've not heard of this "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" But am gonna try listining to it now, This is my remix of a song I had on CD in my teens called "WaterGate - Heart Of Asia" have a look on it on youtube you'll ntice the theme :)

OMG Having just listened to Sakamoto Ryuichi - Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (beautiful song by the way) I can say that it is identical to WaterGate - Heart Of Asia...... Which came out first? Did one copy the other? hmmmm.

Hi Equation84, I'm guessing Ryuichi Sakomoto led the field with his solo compositions and group endeavours with the pretty interesing "Yellow Magic Orchestra". All of this way back in the late 70's and early 80's when Astroboy, Godzilla, et. al. were doing the rounds in Japan. Electronica was in its infancy then, with the only westerners of note being Brian Eno and Jean-Michel Jarre. Btw, MCML is an awesome WWII P.O.W. film featuring David Bowie~It's well worth checking out...to be cont...

Sakamoto Ryuichi is the original from way back in 1983, Watergate (i think) is a 2000 remix ;)
